>Vinyl
>>genuinely higher quality than streaming
the main benefit of vinyl is that you get some nice artwork to look at and the experience of playing the music on the turntable. it doesn't sound better than streaming, vinyl is an outdated format and is genuinely nowhere near as good as digital.
the main draw of vinyl, then, is in the collecting. it would make sense to keep releasing physical discs, as the same people that would buy a vinyl record would be the same people that would buy a physical game disc.
>>
>>746684110
Holy shit you’re retarded
Do you even know how a vinyl record is made? It’s literally a 1:1 copy of the master recording FULLY ANALOG. CDs, let alone streaming, is a bunch of 1s and 0s which technically can never produce the exact same sound that was recorded in the studio. Once you hear something on CD then to vinyl, you’ll never hear that shit the same again

>>
>>746684301
There hasn't been a major analogue master in 20 years. Everything older than that is being pressed from a digital master. Analog is dumb, physical is stupid and was only ever acceptable as a DRM compromise.

Gaming skews more towards tech than art, and tech in general is getting ran into the ground by AI faggotry, which in turn has ran the disc production costs dry. Simple as that, really. We'd still have discs if it werent for faggots making it expensive in the sphere of things
>>
i think its insane some want a disc when the same file can be moved to a hard drive with current internet speeds without impacting you any

let alone paying 30% cut for someone who stocks the disc on a store shelf
>>

Disc DRIVES arent

>>746684301
Vinyls were never a 1:1 copy of the studio's master tape you drooling faggot, it wasn't even the best playback format of it's time. Reel to Reel sounded way better than your plastic frisbees.

You are the retard holy shit. I run a record shop and it amazes me how many fucking snobs like you are retarded. Fucking cattle. You have AAA presses and that is what you want. DDA presses are standard today. In fact most represses or releases are just the CD masters slapped on a slab of vinyl.
>>
>>746683796
You post is confusing
Are you arguing in favor or against physical media?
>>

This.
It's why I only watch movies on VHS.
>>
>>746683796
Vinyls are shit. Modern ones are just digital to physical so they literally has the same quality as CD....for the first play at least, then by time it just gets worse. CDs are superior and 99% people don't have (and care) the equipments to hear the difference.
>BDs
Replace example with DVD which IS inferior but is still around because of high demand

>>
The reason is game data read requirements far surpass what a a Blu-ray is capable of. You can't read modern AAA games off a disc fast enough for games to work well, even HDDs struggle and you can read data faster on an HDD than Blu-Ray

The real argument for vinyl is the superior dynamic range. It's definitely not worth the drawbacks vs a cd/lossless digital though. I tried replacing my collection w/ high quality vinyl rips but got sick of having to turn them up extra loud to hear everything

Any tech company can make DVD, CD etc players. Only Sony can make playstation game players. They will stop making PS5 whenever they decide to.

Vinyl is mastered differently to digital because the needle colors the sound (gives it warmth), so there is a difference. However, what sounds best is how good the mastering engineer is. Mastering music is an art form, you will get different results depending on the engineer's skill and preferences.

Some rare stuff is only on vinyl, or the best quality you can get is on vinyl. But yes digital is better
>>

They will continue to exist but only the good ones, like ps2 and before.

Vinylfags are a special breed but other than that no one listens to cassette tapes, or watches VHS movies. And blu-ray is a expensive waste of space.
Im from the 80s and saw all that tech and was never attached to any of it (quality was usually bad, it was expensive and changing every 5 years)

>>
>>746683796
Vinyl is most definitely not better than lossless FLAC
Blue ray isn't inherently better than a 50gb mkv but unlike vynil is a convenient way to store that data

Games need fast transfer rates unlike the other two. On top of that they require complex drm that end up costing a good portion of some hardware.
>>
Kek retards, donwload a vinyl rip once in your lives and see if that's something you want to listen to over a V0 mp3.

Christopher Nolan will never pluck your copy of Interstellar off the shelf because your physical license expired.

>>
>>746685713
The discs, cartridges, and Game-Key Cards are useful in the event of having your accounts wiped so long as the companies do not also blacklist specific discs or Game-Key Cards. There is no reason why these couldn't be sold as a digital code that you could just back-up to any text doc or physical paper. That's my main beef with them. I've had issues with accounts in the past and lost access to all games I did not physically own. You can also resell licenses quite easily if they have physical representations like discs. This was how I was able to afford games when I was younger.
>>
>>746709540
He won't pluck my digital copy either but your blue ray player will need a firmware update to read it and one day it won't receive any
>>
>>746683796
Albums get novelty releases on cassettes, maybe like 100 units. Vinyl has stood the test of time thankfully but it's not like you get a ton of them released or sold. It's a little less novelty than cassette but still novelty level.
Blu ray movies are going away.
Nobody buys game on discs, and even discs haven't held the full game in literally over a decade now.
>>
>>746709817
yeah on pc people have a lot of piracy to back copies up
still, from sonys perspective it makes zero sense to facilitate retails 30% cut or reselling discs

>idgi
>>
>>746684110
This. Vinyls were horrible back then
>>
>>746683796
Vinyls are basically collector editions, BD are moving that way with shitty streaming giants hoarding more and more studios/titles, gaming should at least have collector edition physical disks same as the rest. Like for going platinum or for the 10th anniversary or something, have it after launch so bugs can be ironed out and studios can't use the "muh piracy" excuse.
>>
>>746683796
>blu-rays are higher quality
Bullshit, it depends on what you stream. If your blu-ray was 1080p it was 1080p, it won't magically be higher quality than a 4k stream.
And you need a disc for the same reason you want a blu ray or vynil. To own it, so you can play shit whenever you want, without the fear of a contract going defunct and the streaming service deleting your library.

>game needs to be installed and download a 40gb update
>>
>>746683796
They still release cassettes?
>>
>>746713281
i'd say less than 10% of games do this. Most companies that due this have usually had a stick up their ass.

Latest one would be obvlion remaster. Physical only has sewers on it and requires a 80gb download that didnt let me play until the next fucking day

Other than that though if you could list some titles to back up your claim id be more convinced. some that are not some live service trash
>>
>>746685713
It's not about the disc, it's about the fact that you don't own your console and much less your digital games there.
>>
>>746708391

You don't own your physical games either, they can just force a system update and lock you out of anything they want.
>>
>>746714083
>Vinyl does sound better than streaming
It doesn't at all you coping nonce, this isn't fucking 2005 you can stream shit at studio quality.
>>
>>746714681
Alright I'll be more specific since you are autistic. The vast majority of streamed audio is inferior to vinyl. This isn't because vinyl is good. It's because most streamed audio is shit.
>>
>>746683796
>>746684110
The main advantage to Vinyl is that they are immune to Rotational Velocidensity. Even flac suffers from degradation after enough time.
>>
>>746714563
True, but getting away with doing that would be a lot harder.
>>
This is a terrible way to argue for physical media. Vinyls aren't necessarily better than digital. Blurays being better than streaming is a problem of bandwidth and you can pirate the entire damn bluray if you care enough. Games suffer no quality loss from being digital.
>>
>>746700568

How come a 2005 walmart bluray player can play the bluray the file came from without breaking a sweat, while you need several hundred dollars to play it smooth on pc?

Is ther a better way to play these files?

I don't know what your setup is so I can't say. Use mpv or something.
