Good games makes travel fun. Like Dragons Dogma 2.
>>746688543True DD1 and 2 never needed shiternal ferrystone
These games have the slowest clunkiest combat I don't know how you can stand it.
>>746688543IMO backtraking falls under QoL stuff that is basically expected in games with big maps.If a map is too big, it doesn't really matter what "mounts" or other travel options you offer, if the game has you backtrack AT ALL it's gonna be a total pain in the ass.Your environments could be filled with traveling NPCs, wandering mini-bosses, resources to collect, etc, none of it matters if the map is too big.
Fast travel should be an option that only gets unlocked when you're at least 70% done with the game. It's good for tying up loose ends. But having it an option too early means you don't engage with the environmental design enough.
If your game needs sleep mechanics, you made passing the night boring.
>>746688823Lordvessel is the right way to do fast travel. Makes you really feel like you earned it.
Why did he make a boring world and then decide to say this though?
>>746688543*flops*
>mindbreaks the stepdadgamers of /v/Based.
>>746688543that's why his games absolutely need fast travel
>>746688543TrueDD2 had the funnest travel system in gamingYou've been crying over that quote for over two fucking years at this point anonTWO YEARS
>>746688543>His idea of making it "fun" was spamming goblins and other copy pasted open world encounters every 5 seconds
>>746689109He mindbroke his dickriders so hard he went to chinese mobile slop company right after. What a hero!
>>746688543Even Morrowind has fast travel
>>746688543>Your game needs fast travel? Your game is boring.>Your game needs fast travel? Your game is boring. But DD2 has fast travel you fucking imbecile. It also has real money shop selling fast travel items because they are intentionally scarce in game to push people to pay for them instead of going through boring as shit long travel sessions..
>>746691785>oh you're not perfect, you must be dumbYou are the imbecile. Even your rotten brain should realize that you are being retarded, yet you vomit out this garbage anyway.
>>746691068Morrowind has the only good fast travel system in open world games and NO ONE copies it. It boggles my mind.
>>746691951>lol games with fast travel are BORING unlike DD2>but DD2 has fast travel imbecile>noooo you're the imbecileGreat counter argument you fucking retard.Next time if you have nothing of worth to add just shut the fuck up.
I agree. Video games don't need a fast travel option. Just make movement fun.
>>746692040>unlike DD2where did he say that?
>>746691981How does fast travel work differently in Morrowind? I've never played it. I mean, fast travel is a basic concept. Literally just open map + click on map spot. What else can you do to refine that?
>>746689156Mindraped goyslave
>>746692127I could easily do without fast travel if the game gave me a way to move faster than running on foot. A horse is fine, but it's not anything special. Give me a supernatural creature I can ride up cliffs or across water. Give me flight. All these make traversal more entertaining
>>746688543>Proceeds to sell you fast travel for 2.99
>>746688543Fixed: Your game should have fast travel but invite and reward the player to not use it when you don't want it to be boring.
>>746688543This game has barely anything special in its travel. There is almost nowhere worth going that doesn't have a quest attached to it. I'll try not to be disingenuous, I like the game and I'm excited for the expansion. It had its moments, but most of it was just the roads with the same goblins/wolves/saurians/bandits. Honestly just adding more big monsters would've made it 5x more interesting. All these big AAA rpg games need to spend way more budgeting on the enemy variety. I don't understand how they end up this way with the assets they have and budget allocated towards these games. Just throw in a few of the fucking monster hunter enemies if you can't do any more. Nobody actually cares that a cockatrice is basically a griffon, just add them.
>>746694962you can travel using boats and silt striders instead of pressing the map and magically teleporting thereexcept you can also magically teleport just not to anywhere at any timeit's all in-universe fast travel systems which make it immersive
>>746688543Imagine if Earth didn't have fast travel.
>>746688719Miko sex
>>746688543If you don't want to fast travel you can just choose not to. Fast travel is a QoL feature for people who cannot or don't want to spend two thirds of their limited gaming time travelling to the interesting bits of the game. Just let people play how they want.
>>746694962You have different transportation networks like Skyrim's carriages (silt striders, boats, teleports between mages guilds in different cities) but also a bunch of spells (Divine/Almsivi Intervention to teleport to the nearest Imperial shire/Tribunal temple, Mark and Recall to set a fixed point you can teleport back to). Getting somewhere fast involved a little bit of route planning and was something you could optimize.
>>746688635mental illness which is normal for controller console trannies
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about DD2 travel, that it’s the same stupid fights with shitty mobs over and over again. It’s one of the reasons why I never got it. Honestly, I couldn’t fucking believe this problem was even a thing because the Japanese are usually so competent with game design. Like it’s pretty fucking obvious that if you want players to explore the world w/o fast travel then you have to keep the journey interesting for players and maintain that attraction. Yet, the Jap devs somehow missed this.So is it true /v/? Is the DD2 travel gameplay shit-tier like I’ve heard from others?
>playing TES without fast travelling>need to escort NPC cross country>they don't want to runGET BACK ON YOUR HORSE, MARTIN! IT'S JUST A FUCKING MUDCRAB!
>>746688635DD1 came out in the age of BAMHAM clones and DD2 game out in the age of Souls clones.DD2 feels slower than DD1, but what exactly are you comparing them to they both feel slow to you?
>>746688543I wish I could fast travel to and from work every single fucking day, nobody likes travel like that.
>>746694962Many different ways to fast travel, each with its own different network that covers a different set of territories (overlapping a bit), some tied to certain factions (can't use the Mage Guild teleport system if everyone there hates you, for example) or quests (the Propylion Index, teleporters located in abandoned dunmer fortresses that require you to find the key for each one).Even the ones that are basically just Skyrim carts are more interesting and atmospheric, since they are weird giant bugs. You have scrolls and spells that teleport you to the nearest temple of two different religions. You have the spell mark and recall, which you can use to respectively mark a location and teleport back to it, with infinite range and duration. Finally, when you are a bit more leveled, you can even fly or boost your Acrobatics skill so much that you can litterally jump and cover half the map in a single leap (and a scroll you find early gives you a taste of what it will be like). You basically have lots of options, all well integrated in the world but none of them are a perfect solution, so it feels like an actual immersive gameplay mechanic rather than just something that exist to be a convenient way for a player to skip the boring part.
>>746688543DDs idea of making travel not "boring" is by making sure you get attacked by wolves and goblins every 5 minutes. That does, in fact, get boring very quickly when you just want to get from point A to B as quickly as possible.
>>746688543>You don't need fast travel>Sell fast travel in microtransaction Say a lot about the game
>>746688543Open world is default boring to travel through anyway unless it's just freeroam for a fun movement mechanic with some execution depth where you launch yourself at speed using some kind of momentum building mechanics.Fast travel in games without open world should be 2 or more mutually exclusive systems for a handful of destinations.>>746688867Lordvessel was a good hotfix, since it didn't link every checkpoint and wasn't accessible from a pause menu, but it was still just a hotfix when they had no way to link up the final sprawl organically.>>746691981Silksong sort of does this by having 2 networks.
>>746688543More games need Mark/Recall rune system from Ultima 7. Baisicly fast travel but it gives the player the power to set the points but also a finite number of runes.I didn't mind "fast travel" in might and magic 6. fixed routes for boats and horse carriages.Give fast travel a bit more thought and lore and it feels a lot better.
>>746701145That is how it works in DD but the teleporting item to return to your set points was limited at launch.
>>746688543The statement is true but also extremely ironic because travelling around the map is by far the worst part of DD2 and it's much worse than DD1 wasHaving one or two winding mountain paths in your map is cool but it can't be the entire game
>>746689405He's no longer held back by Capcom so his next game will be the greatest game ever and utterly perfect. Trust the plan.
Still haven't boughted Slopma 2 and never will, not even going to pirate it.
>>746688543So is Dragon's Dogma 2 a good example of this being boring, is that what he's implying?
King's Field has the best fast travel system. It's a shame Fromsoft regressed from it with the souls games.
>>746701145>>746688543Fast travel needs to have cost and limits of some kind, otherwise you've just given the player a teleporting system, which is tremendously unfun.Morrowind also had the right idea of making it cost money and limiting it to existing fly routes to begin with.
good games dont need fast travel.open world slop is never good.
>Like Dragon Dogma 2wat
>your game needs fast travel if it's boring>proceeds to make the most boring world with 7 enemies and nothing to do
The game is now free from Denuvo's claws bros.It finally happened.
