For a while it worked because investors who already invested got hit with sunk cost fallacy, but eventually when they would pull out and stop investing. This would shatter the confidence that Wall Street had in the tech startups and would devalue their stocks massively. In many of these companies all that was left was huge piles of debt and not a single dime in sight.To put it plainly, it was preppy boys playing with money they thought they had but didn't because they don't understand how the economy actually works. And dumbass investors not doing their due diligence figuring out who was real and who wasn't and instead threw money around like candy in hopes that they'd make it huge in the newly emerging digital age. Very similar to how these AI companies work, except this time the preppy techbros understand the economy a bit better and are trying to inflate their company's worth as fast as possible and extract real money out of it before the jig is up.There's much more to it but maybe that wets your appetite to learn more.
