Why do JRPGs have forgotten to be fun?
>>
>JRPG where the protagonist suffers permanent, visible damage
Name 1.5.

My attention span is so destroyed I don't think I could ever play a jrpg again. If it's not over in 10 fucking minutes then it's too long.
>>
>>746744159
You mean a plot this wild isn't fun?
>>
>>746746596
but enough about your sex life.

Dunban in Xenoblade 1 if he counts. Shulk from XC to Future Redeemed. Dimitri in FE3H.
>>
>>746745448
I finished that game and i don't remember that happening
>>

Play Dragon Quest
>>
JRPGs are the playable version of manga and anime. For better or worse.
>>
>>746744691
>visible
I would say it doesn't really count since you never really see the player character in game, only in artwork in the manual, but Megami Tensei II has the main character lose his arm when trying to get one of a few pillar items needed to access Makai. When you lose your arm this way, you can't use your COMP from what I remember, and you also take damage every step until you get a replacement prosthetic, which if I also recall correctly gives you an upgrade to your demon stock for two more demons? It's been a bit.

Squall gets got in the first 3 minutes of Final Fantasy VIII.
>>
Chipchip did nothing wrong
>>
>>746753335
Chipchip is a vile narcissist with a savior complex. Everything he has ever done has been to stroke his own ego no matter how moral he might look on the outside.

That was pretty metal though. He cut off his arm so the villain will fall down to the pits.
He got better though.
>>
>>746746704
Pretty sure it's parodying webcomics.
>>
>Why do JRPGs have forgotten to be fun?
SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR
>>
>>746745448
actually none of that was real and the protagonist was not even the protagonist.
so while it may have looked like the protagonist died, it was just a magical paint illusion.
>>
>>746744159
Bravely Default.

The evolution of Final Fantasy and JRPGs already came out, you missed it.
Bravely Default.
>>
>>746760279
>Spam Brave anytime it's available
Somehow worse than standard jrpg button mashing
>>
>>746761113
Did you play on easy mode? This is a great way to lose on turn 1.
>>
>>746761204
You cannot convince be that Bravely Default of all things was a tactical masterpiece
>>
>>746744691
Not Japanese but Summoner to the point where, IIRC, it even influences what equipment you can use.

What...

Lisa the painful. Probably one of the main gimmicks of that game
>>
>>746761313
What game IS a tactical masterpiece?

Why have the goalposts shifted from "JRPGs should be fun" to "JRPGs should be tactical masterpieces"?

Maybe Bravely isn't a tactical masterpiece but I never claimed it was - it's a fun JRPG with classic mechanics reimagined. If I want a "tactical masterpiece" I'll join the military.

Here's something far more unbelievable.
I beat the red light green light minigame.

Chipchip is a master manipulator and an all around asshole who has been feigning good intentions since day 1. This is evident in the Book 12, Chapter 15a (DLC Interlocking Fury Flame content enabled) where upon taking an alternative path that has yet to be declared non-cannon and exclusively in the japanese localization of the game where Chipchip is implied to have ties to Xeron predating chapter 1 and Book 20's time travel arc.
Why yes, I heard of this through a theory essay video and schizo ramblings by children on the online fandom.
Why no, I haven't played the game, jrpgs are grindy garbage for number crunching asians!
>>
>>746744691
Lisa the Painful
It's made with JRPG Maker so it counts.

For normal encounters, sure, you can automate those, but each dungeon has other enemies that force you to change up your auto battle.

Bosses become more of a puzzle, with set moves until they do a certain special move. When to default and when to brave become super important.

Also lets not act random encounters had any tactical depth in any jrpg, so giving you the option to automate them is a great evolution of the genre
>>
>>746744159
I not knowered. It goodly to be used.
>>
>>746762863
>Metal Saga
The protagonist can actually get a cybernetic arm, too, so it fits the image pretty well. I liked that you can still go other places while the protagonist is mangled rather than going straight to get his arm fixed, and a lot of NPCs have unique dialogue for that.
>>
>>746744159
Why has nobody pointed out that this is just Terranigma
