This sadly, just a grim reminder that you can invent the greatest piece of technology ever and it means jack shit if nobody knows how to use the thing properly
>>

>The best console ever made
Certainly not. However I do like it.

PS2 > pussy
>>
>>746811375
Well what's the best?
>>
>>746811475
PS2 was flimsy junk the disc drive would fail though the PS3 did use leadless solder
PS3 > PS1 > PS2
>>
>PS1 and PS2 hardware
People forget how consumer friendly this stuff was. Back then everything was backwards compatible and they still produced brand new play station 1s and 2s on the market. They still published games on old consoles as well.
>>746811159
That is bullshit, you just didn't play them
>>
Due to environmental regulations like the European Union's RoHS directive introduced in the 2000s, console manufacturers shifted away from traditional tin-lead alloys to lead-free alternatives (typically tin, copper, and silver composites)

YLOD Myth: The yellow light briefly flashing before a red light on the PlayStation 3, nicknamed the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD), was widely attributed to cracked lead-free solder around the processors caused by thermal stress. However, subsequent investigations note that there is no real analysis using an accurate sample size of YLOD PS3s to conclusively prove that solder problems were the sole cause, pointing instead to underlying component or silicon failures rather than just the solder joints

Also to add:
>online play was free
>web browser
>can download music and movies/videos
>wifi out the gate
>compatible with CD/DVD
>easy to use XMB
>region-free
>outlived it's competitors
With that said, a small correction to the OP.
>Had PS1 and PS2 hardware
As far as I could tell, it did not have PS1 hardware, just PS2, PS1 games were emulated, but Sony used some kind of magic because the PS1 games I played on PS3 worked flawless.

>As far as I could tell, it did not have PS1 hardware, just PS2, PS1 games were emulated, but Sony used some kind of magic because the PS1 games I played on PS3 worked flawless.
The PS2 had hardware PS1 which was included on the PS3
>>
>>746810807
While I was writing my post complimenting the PS3 my brand new one died on me
>>
>>746811853
It was actually caused by the solder bumps that connect the GPU to the interposer. The same thing plagued 360 and every other GPU made between 2006 to late 2008, colloquially known as "bumpgate"
>>
I like PS3 but DualShock 3 feels less thick than the DualShock 2. Still, going wireless was a good choice.
And PSN was born here and is better than that damn PS2 adapter.
>>
>YLOD
>>
PS1, if you ask me. More good games than I can count, lots of soul, myriad genres.
>You could play those games on PS3
True, but it played several of them quite poorly. For example, I remember in Silent Hill how, when fighting the dickboss, the rifle sound effect got "stuck" and started looping, constantly, until I could save.

>Had PS1 hardware
No it didn't, it had an emulator, a decent one but no hardware. Also the PS2 hardware was only for the initial batch of fat PS3s, later fat models had partial emulation and then full emulation once the PS2 hardware was fully removed.
>>
>>746810807
>best console
yes
>best release like i've seen some say
no - and not because of the price
>>
>Had PS1 and PS2 hardware
So did a PS2 Slim, which was ~$500 cheaper at the time
>Bluray
Meme format in 2006. People had only just barely built up a DVD collection, and it wasn't clear whether Bluray or HD-DVD would win the format war back then. Most people still owned CRTs so Bluray had no benefits for them.
>Media server
The 360 had easier-to-use Windows Media Center integration
>Linux
Not video games.
>Supercomputer CPU co-developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM
Who gives a fuck?
>SD card reader
Not video games.
>DualShock 3 is the best controller ever made with trigger extensions
It's worse than the DualShock 2 ergonomically thanks to being slightly thicker due to the battery pack, but the handles are the same length, so you have less to grip onto. The sticks were also made taller for some stupid reason, which makes it easier to flick on accident while hitting the face buttons. The convex triggers just make it even worse. On top of all that, it wasn't even available at launch.
>Was solid and battery would last weeks instead of days of current shit
Relative to other controllers of the time, it was pretty standard, though not relying on AAs was arguably a plus.
>Good emulator for SNES, Genesis etc.
The Wii does as well, and can actually output 240p to a CRT, while PS3's minimum resolution is 480i.
>Standard 2.5-inch SATA laptop hard drive
Fair.
>HDMI
Pointless on launch and just inflated the price more. 360 integrated it when moore people actually had HD displays, and Sony would have been wise to have done the same.
PS3 is the worst Sony console, except for maybe PS5.
>>
>>746811659
ps3 is a ticking timebomb with 0 games and a shitty controller, dogshit console

So don't future proof? Blurays still look fine on modern TVs but DVDs look like ass
GT4 could be played at 1080i
>>
>>746816502
Hardware wise...
>>
Undefeated
>>
>>746817267
Considering Sony pioneered the mid-gen refresh, that would have been the time to add Bluray. From what I remember, the BD drive in the PS3 was slower than the DVD drive in the 360, so load times were fucking awful. It wasn't worth it from a gaming standpoint, it was just Sony trying to be an all-in-one multimedia box, even if it wasn't an advantage for games.
>GT4 could be played at 1080i
That's probably the biggest tragedy of the 7th gen. It could have been a 1080/60i generation if CRTs hadn't been phased out, just like the PS2 was a 480/60i gen. The games would have run way better and looked better too, but instead we got a weird transitionary generation where everything ran like shit and was played on laggy early LCDs with horrible picture quality.
>>
I own a homebrew'd CECHA00 and I never use it for fear of it turning into dust as I play...
>>
>>746810807
Linux compatibility got removed early and mgs4 just escaped the PS3 jail. Sorry anon.
>>
>>746810807
>Had PS1 and PS2 hardware
For like a year until Sony scrapped it in favor of emulation.
>>
>>746811159
People that parrot this take expose themselves hard. You basically just admitted you don't know shit about videogames besides the normie slop.
>>
>>746817889
Only plebs got LCDs. Loved recking everyone in CoD4 on my PS3 + CRT
>>
>>746818529
CRT only got you so far into that gen because devs stopped making UIs that worked in SD. The text was illegible in a lot of games if you didn't play in HD. It's fucking bullshit in hindsight, because there's no reason they couldn't have supported 4:3, 480i modes.
>>
>>746818529
Then I eventually got a Panasonic S60 plasma that had 33 milliseconds lag input
>>
>>746818663 see >>746817267
34" 1080i CRT with HDMI
>>
it was shit
>too expensive
inbr hurr durr poorfag I had a fatty before I swapped to PC
>also had a heating problem like the 360
>the CELL architecture was hell on devs meaning the games lineup was shit until they figured it out and it ended up usually being the worst console for any multiplat
>Original SixAxis was flimsy shit until they added the rumble back
Its better than the 4 and 5 but not by much
>>
>>746811717
Who the fuck wanted to play LAIR?
>>
>>746810807
The price at the time was absurd, so I just kept using my PS2 as a DVD player until my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) bought me a PS3. The main problem I have with the PS3 is the massive load times. I have never used a gaming console that wasted so much of my time. Hell, Hideo Kojima even made a game built around that mechanic for the PS3.
>>
Oh look, another Snoy thread praising the absolute shit that was the SnoyslopShitstation 3.

Reminder that 360 mogged it in every way possible.

You forgot to mention:
>free online
>no proprietary plugs/wires so you can charge anything off USB and likewise with its controllers

Also this version is the best
>>
>>746818850
That's cool, but unfortunately these were a hard sell because of how huge they were, and LCDs emphasized their lightness and larger screen sizes. Most people who upgraded to HD went with LCD or Plasma.
>>
>>746817473
Console hardware doesn't mean shit if it doesn't have any games to back it up retard
