1. Relatively low budget and outsourced to a third party to make a lazy 1:1 remake (even though an N64-era game would need a total overhaul to avoid feeling dated or overly "game-y" since modern graphics leave far less to the imagination than retro graphics)
2. Paid journo articles and reviews will read "Does classic 3D Zelda still impress in 2026? Not entirely"
Nintendo no longer wants to make classic 3D Zeldas, they just want to make open world games with copypaste test rooms. Botching the ultimate classic is a good way to blame the old formula and turn the page permanently

Just letting you know. Absolute inside job, starting with 0 hype and no money spent on marketing.

My favorite Nintendo series are Kirby, Xenoblade, and Splatoon. Only one of those is actually internally developed by Nintendo. Also Monolith does all the technical work on anything Nintendo EPD makes anyway.

Part of it might be that Sega had like 20 different magazines. Obviously Nintendo had a bunch of magazines as well but, interestingly, those loved to give horrible ratings to Nintendo exclusives for some reason (a 4/10 for the goated Bomberman 64 for example)

If you want to make a worthy remake you need to understand what influenced the original team. If it's made by newfags Nintendo has to lock them in a room with Tolkien books and Conan movies for weeks.

If that were the case they would have just ported the 3DS version and called it Ocarina of Time 3D HD and call it a day.
>>
>>746853386
>to avoid feeling dated or overly "game-y"
That’s a fear I have. For example, opening Darunia’s door with the ocarina works great in a blocky, arcade-looking game, but today it could feel a bit weird and contrived. They’ll need to really sell that the ocarina songs work by magic—maybe like a Harry Potter spell that simply does whatever you need. Or also rooms where you have to clear all enemies: they probably want to make it feel like there’s actual magic at work.

We are living in the times of a shifting overton window. I just wish they'd actually do something cool for once, like actively referencing the other games e.g. Ganondorf talking about visions of the Wind Waker future or stuff from Skyward Sword or finally drawing from the fucking manga. They don't even have to think about how to flesh out the story, literally just add the manga stuff like how Impa trains Zelda to become a Sheikah, infiltrating Ganondorf etc.

When people talk about 1:1 they’re referring to gameplay and map designs. Basically just putting a shiny coat of graphics over the N64 skeleton. You’re looking too deep into it.

Water Temple will get gutted, no more having to memorize the layout, most definitely making the entrance to the basement way more obvious
Overworld will get more obvious quest markers and pointers, Jabu Jabu gets a big fish symbol on the ground or someone will straight up tell you to give him a fish
Navi will be more like Issun in Okami and spoil pretty much every puzzle

I dunno, I always thought the coolest part about this in the original game was that it was a "read between the lines" kinda thing. Link spent 7 years napping, while Impa escaped with the princess and trained her to be a badass ninja. She even uses the same Deku Nut "ninja vanish" trick as Impa every time you meet her. It was a cool moment of "show, don't tell" that is increasingly rare in video games (and media of all kinds, if we're being honest)

The only reason to show it would be if they made Zelda/Shiek playable, and I'm not sure I want that.

This but there were several in-house teams back in the day; nowadays it seems like they just have one team that only handles mainline zeldas, as well as a lot of subsidiary studios like Retro, Intelligent Systems, Monoloth, etc that mostly handle specific sets of IPs.
R&D1 was my favorite; and that got shut down decades ago. It seems like one of the reasons so many nintendo franchises are dead and only get games if nintendo can outsource them, is because they dissolved the teams that would work on them.
That said I did like the mercurysteam metroids quite a bit, but they're the exception

Picrel is already an Ocarina of Time remake down to Volvagia. Releasing this and another remake so close together just risks theme fatigue.

Nintendo retardation works in mysterious ways.

Simple things can do that.

This kinda stuff is very important, Gaben talked about it. Just being able to interact with things for the sake of it and the world reacting to you. Wondering how interactive the remake is going to be but not expecting BotW meme levels

Yes, it literally is, since I'm playing the decomp.

I only played a little bit of it, but it felt more like another attempt at ALttP/LA. The map certainly took more cues from ALttP than OoT Hyrule Field.

Yes, OoT had a way more interesting implementation of iframes than Souls did years beforehand, especially since enemies have attacks that actually counter your iframes.

It genuinely has bonkers combat depth given all the crazy shit you can do in it.

It unironically doesn't feel right on PC. Needs a CRT too.

The only way I'm buying is if it's directed by someone who actually directed Zelda games before which, as silly as it sounds, feels unlikely. Dunno why Square manages to do it with FF7 but Nintendo can't with their legendary game.

>The remake will just do Flurry Rush shit.
I fucking hate flurry rush. I hate pretty much everything BotW added, in retrospect. So much of it is just decompressing normal gameplay into something that wastes your time, all in the name of trying to feel "bigger". It's okay to have enemies that die after just one or two hits. It's a fucking Zelda game.

I think it's a large part of why the TES and Fallout games have gotten so popular. You very rarely run into something you try to interact with and can't.

>I watch every streamer who plays OoT and they unironically rage nonstop
I wouldn't know anything about watching streamers because I'm not a gay faggot, but there is a bit of jankiness about OoT that ends up being compounded if you've played more recent Zelda games, if only because they're still based on the same core game engine, but with literal decades of tweaks and refinement. There's nothing objectively wrong or bad about OoT's mechanics, but there's a definite "roughness" to them that becomes more apparent when you're familiar with its successors.

If I had to guess, many of these gay faggot streamers you watch probably played stuff like Twilight Princess or BotW first, then went back to OoT, and it can definitely add an extra layer of jank that you might not register otherwise. Of particular note is just how short Link's range is. You really have to get up in an enemy's business to hit them with regular slashes, moreso than in later games.

If you actually read the reviews, most of them were rating the quality of the port itself, and most Dreamcast ports suffered in some way. There was also an expectation back then that a re-release should have added content, and a lot of these ports were very barebones.
