It's not happening. Nintendo considers her a minor Zelda character along the lines of Navi, Malon, Sidon, Skull Kid, Fi, and so on. Zelda hasn't gotten a new rep since Brawl in 2008, and unless Sakurai isn't developing the next Smash game, it'll stay that way.

The most likely "new" character would be Toon or Young Link getting a rework to use different weapons. The second most likely new character is Pig Ganon.

The Zelda Direct will likely spend a lot of time on the movie. Like 15 minutes or more. Show a trailer, an agonizing five minute speech from the director, some words from Miyamoto and the actors playing Link/Zelda/Ganondorf, etc.
Then they'll probably have some merchandise to shill, some toys or something.
They'll close with a look at Ocarina of Time. Possibly only showing stuff that is framed in a way to make it still tricky to tell the scope of the project. They could also waste a lot of time having Miyamoto and Aonuma talk about the original game on N64 and the 3DS version, with little snippets of those games for comparison to really pad the time.
People will scream and shit their pants when there are no WWHD or TPHD, no remaster or remakes of LttP or LbW or the Capcom games, no new Warriors content, no spinoff projects, no glimpse at the newest 3D Zelda in development, and, as ever, no new Smash Bros (Link is in Smash so it counts!!!).
I'm not trying to be a downer - I myself actually am looking forward to seeing OoT and am morbidly curious about the movie. I just think people are going to set their expectations too high, and am bracing for the aftermath. It will 100% happen for the General Direct, as well. Just a lot of angry screeching from people that is entirely self-inflicted.

My expectations are through the floor this time. 40th anniversary Zelda is going to be merchandise and the movie more than games. Twilight Princess will be on NSO. OoT is a 1 to 1 remake. I'm expecting the next direct to be third party titles more than first party.

Youre retarded for wasting a slot on ds nso. You could get the double screens to work on a tv but then you dont have the touchscreen, so that doesnt work. You could make it playable handheld by rotating the switch 90 degrees and releasing a peripheral that wraps around the switch 2 to play like that but that would be goofy and awkward and not work on a tv. The best way it could work is letting other switch 1/2s act as a gamepad but that would be docked exclusive and some games would still look weird in the games where the bottom screen is used to extend the top one. I think ds and 3ds games will one day get the nso treatment, but it would require hardware designed for 2 screens. They make foldable touchscreens now so maybe swith 2.5 or 3 will use that or have half the screen removable that gets docked and the other half becomes a gamepad
