I'm a little late to the party, this apparently happened last year, but holy shit. The Japanese Government apparently got fed up with Americans misrepresenting their culture internationally, and are now making it Illegal to mislocalize Japanese media, including games.

This could not just improve the quality of the versions we get in the West, it could legit put Japan back on the map as a serious producer of video games.

It's still not clear if the law will apply retroactively or only for future releases, and what the punishment will be for those that break it, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

What franchises are (You) looking to being saved, /v/? And if the law is retroactive, what fixed game will you be playing first?
>>
shitpan hasnt produced a good videogame since 2006
>>
>>746930173
Part of that is because of localizers, though.
>>
>>746930063
How will it be enforced?
Will the US extradite localizers to Japan for trial? Will the bosses be held responsible? What about unofficial localizations?

sounds based
I hope they do it
>>

is this just gonna rape fansubs
>>
>>746930063
I highly doubt any gov would try to do something actually good, but here's hoping
>>
>>746930063
Or it could shift the overton window among normies just hard enough seeing the full extent of degeneracy and cultural differences coming from Japan that their products either won't be sold overseas or they install psyop actors in Japan to change their laws and criminalize things like not just rori, but high school anime girls with large breasts.
>>
>>746930987
>Is "new law" going to impact "already highly illegal practice"

I really doubt this would be the deal breaker instead of the tons of IP protection laws.
>>
>>746930987
Fansubs are generally much more accurate than official translations though, so no.

>>746931061
Yep, it's a long shot, hopefully it turns out well though.

>>746930438
Probably extradition.
>>
>>746931123
That's grim as fuck but with the amount of zoomer losers with bowel cancer raised to be karen right out of school I can see that happening.
>>
>>746931232
Would the USA really extradite someone to a foreign country for free speech? Doesn't that go against the Bill of Rights?
>>
>>746930063
I guarantee you're misrepresenting whatever the law actually says and you're just regurgitating whatever slop you heard from your favorite antiwoke youtuber

Too little too late now that the Japanese companies have been infiltrated and things get shit up at the source.
>>
>>746931805
pretty much, and it is an anti-woke twitter user. the article is from last year and nothing has happened since
>>
>>746930063
Japan themselves can't make faithful translations to begin with.
>>
>>746930987
No, UNLESS the fansubber is literally a government agent or a JET program drone and does something weirdly political. The fansubber would have to get noticed by the federal government, and the last time that happened, it was Chinese communist students making deliberately inflamatory translations for the mandarin market.
>>
>>746931061
This is more about influencing policy softly. There's actually a directive to "not talk about the work", which even though it's not a law with penalties, is not friendly to trannylators who can't stop shitposting publically.
>>
>>746931727
No, and you don't understand the bill at all. Just lurk this thread.
>>
>>746931805
This is the Japanese legal system. What the law says isn't too important at all.
>>
>>746930987
Fansubs barely even exist these days, there are a few fan translations for vidya, but for anime the only fansubs you still see are made by /a/nons, like with Dodge Danko this season getting fansubbed by 2 separate /a/ posters (one being an anon, the other being PT, a tripfag).
>>
>>746930063
>are now making it Illegal to mislocalize Japanese media, including games.
[citation needed]
>>
>>746930173
Insane bait
>>
japanese game developers have been thoroughly infiltrated. there is no need for localizers to "censor" anything anymore.
>>
>>746932126
Pretty much this, they just fuck shit up right at the source now.
>>
Good. The state of translation being so bad that we need to distinguish between "translator"/"translated and "localizer/localization" and often only 1 is contracted, is horrible. I'll be glad when the latter is correctly labeled as "fraudster/fraud".
Someone pays you to translate their work and you just make up your own words and meanings independent of the author, and the author has no way to verify so you just rip them off and get away with it. It's criminal and shitty.
>>
>>746934280
I agree with this to a degree. What we have nowadays is nothing compared to what was normal in the 90's and 00's. This means nothing to me. Also, Japan has been lacking in general lately (by lately, I mean the last decade.) I really don't think this going to change anything.
>>
>>746930063
>Ghost stories is now illegal

Owari da....
>>
>>746930687
Basically according to this then pantyshots are back since no more interference from nip gov unless they're fucking actively self censoring again.
>>
>>746930063
Too late, most games are already censored on the original language.
But its a move in the right direction though.
>>

This gives some federal leverage against only two cases via the risk of losing "cool japan" type funding. One is Thomas Locksley. The second is that one crazy greek girl.

If you're acting as a "political agent", you might get NOTICED here. There's no actual enforcement mechanism. Just peer pressure it seems.
>>
>>746934541
More like a suit from the departement of education asks if you have some time to talk about politics.

>>
>>746934280
This is wrong. Just few months ago we had rouge american localizers inserting pro trans/anti fascist messages into YunYun Senpai Syndrome English translation. It was so bad the developer had to apologize(using AI translated post), directly called out the worst cases and went over all the lines to check for more bullshit they tried to sneak in.
This should be illegal. There should also be an awareness campaign to encourage Japanese developers to properly check the translation and construct the contracts in a way where such vandalism would be grounds for big compensation to deter the practice.

I remember when /v/ was praising Trump over allegedly saving loli porn from credit card companies when what he was really doing was trying to ban any bank from not wanting the reputation hit of associating with a criminal like himself
This shit with the Japanese "banning unfaithful translations" is as much of a lie, which started going about around the same time.
>>
This faggotry has been going on for ages, even outside of games I loosely recall some light novel where the main character was a cross dresser and the translator being a tranny reworked it to say he was a tranny which got the writer seething when he(she? no idea don’t care) found out about it and had the books retranslated again
>>
it's interesting how leftoids like to act so noble regarding art and then constantly piss all over others creations, though i suppose they do that with literally everything
>>
>>746935385
>This shit with the Japanese "banning unfaithful translations" is as much of a lie
Based on what?
>>
>>746935783
It's not even banning translations. It's encouraging quality translation with funding that can be withdrawn, maybe.
>>
>>746935930
>funding
With what money?
>>
>>746936084
A whole 10,000 yen per translation, an incredible sum, do not look up the exchange rate

It's about the Japanese government preventing *itself* from dictating anything for any media projects it funds. Quite literally the exact opposite of what OP is talking about. This was explained and then conveniently ignored the last time OP made this same thread seven months ago.

Nope, look up Mangs' video on it.

the freedom to use any words or any edgy/racist joke is what makes it funny, they wouldnt do the black guy joke now, nor the rape ones, the abortion ones and jew ones.
>>
>>746930438
They will try the Japanese companies for not enforcing faithful localisation. Basically, the era of nips just giving their media to liberals to do whatever they want with it will be gone.

No, it wouldn't be. The contract was literally, "You can have them say anything you want, just don't change the names of characters or the basic storyline." It wouldn't be a mislocalization or deliberate mistranslation at that point.
