I wouldn’t. Characters are better when you can relate to them. Males are fundamentally more relatable because they go through a harsher life, and therefore experience suffering more often than females who are basically coddled their entire life. That’s why bravery is especially noble in males, because they can actually face violent repercussions, whereas for a woman to be brave it really doesn’t matter because she wouldn’t’ve faced any dangerous situations due to her stance anyway. So if you make your character a male you automatically get these inherent bonuses that let your player empathize with them better, whereas with a female character you’ll only get a surface level cardboard cutout version of empathy, more often supported by a political need for rebellion outside of the video game rather than a need for good story telling within the video game.Don’t get me wrong, I love women and the roles they can fill well, but it’s just the way it is.
