While Awakening is the equivalent of increasing the number of stars on the unit (which, in FFBE, also meant that their sprite would change to have the aura stuff on them, anf then reset to level 1, while keeping all their learned skills and passives from their last awakening). Each Awakening has its own number of Mastery Ranks, so you'd be grinding for quite a while. There are 4 Awakening tiers in total per each Vision in this new game, apparently.
