>"All your favorite franchises WILL be open world and you will like it"
Breath of the Wild has done irreparable damage to Nintendo's flagship games and we are all watching them burn down in real time.
>>
Why was Nintendo so late to the open world trend? all their games going open world will so dated,
>>
All games should be open world. And open world doesn't mean "game has a overworld" btw.

Imagine a world where BotW didn't exist. Less open world slop and Genshin doesn't exist, meaning gacha doesn't go mainstream.
>>
>>747231683
It’s a Metroidvania
>but it’s doesn’t have hard item gates
It’s a Metroidvania, you faggot. There’s no “Collect 500 Scrimble Tokens for mediocre RPG progression” shit that Ubisoft and the Zelda team love to shit out.
>>
what's actually wrong with open world?
>>
Kirby is a baby game nothing is lost by changing the sidescrolling aspect
>>
>>747232254
It only works for games where controlling the character is the fun part.
>>
>>747232254
it's a giant empty nothing, where you "make your own fun"
>>
>>747232254
Nothing. However, Nintendo making all their franchises 3d open world makes them less distinct from each other.
>>
>>747230976
Open world games aren't bad, bad games are open world.
>>747231595
They didn't alienate or fire all of their talent in the late 2000s like every major western studio did, so their decline was slower and relied on manually grinding down employees instead of just running them out of the company.
Open world is directionless soup that is used to pad out runtime or to justify missing milestones, it's why Tim Schafer keeps falling back on it.
>>747231609
Open world just means that it has a large interactive level select peppered with microcontent that wouldn't even merit a bonus stage if you had to select the levels from a list. It's like interactive loading screens or interactive cutscenes in 7th gen slop.
It's cool for free roam content in games with heavily momentum based movement, but it is otherwise trash.

Hot take: open world is high risk, high reward. A competent open world game is an extraordinary experience that never gets old. An incompetent open world game is slop. Nintendo is taking risks because they are confident they can pull it off.
>>
>>747230976
Maybe but I like the truman show theming.
>>
>>747232224
where did you see that in the trailer?
>>
>>747232620
Are you the same anon who shows up explaining what went wrong with Zelda games.
>>
>>747232620
No it doesn't. Open world means it has seemless transitions in the environment.
>>
Of all the series to get an open world I think Kirby makes the most sense. The whole idea is for it to be a casual relaxing platformer where you have an overpowered character
>>
>>747231609
Kill yourself.
>>
>>747232223
>the oot remake wouldn’t exist and instead they would have used that engine to make an entirely new 3D Zelda game with 8 new dungeons
What a gay ass timeline.
>>
>>747230976
You faggots aren't happy about the OOT Remake though. Nothing makes you happy.
>>
>>747234658
you're literally in the designated angry room of the internet, populated by people who won't be tolerated anywhere else. What do you expect?
>>
>>747234484
Stay mad. You will always be a casual idiot who doesn't know shit about vidya.
>>
>>747234646
>I know exactly how everything in the world works, and I also know how it would have worked in an alternate timeline!
once you realize that like 99% of the discussion here is based on this extremely flawed perspective, it starts to grate.
>>
>>747234658
I was happy about the OoT remake...
>>
>>747232254
It kills game pacing, story-telling, and is generally unnecessary because the world is usually empty of anything interesting.
>>
>>747234658
because it looks terrible, so?
>>
>>747231595
Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros were basically the market telling them "go linear, go linear". Their other best sellers were multiplayer games that can't even go open world (except mario kart apparently).
>>
>>747234883
Most honest description of 4chan to ever exist.
>>
>>747230976
I don't feel anything from this it looks like the same kirby theyve done 100 times but now in botw template
>>
>>747235215
I apologize, king.
>>
>>747234658
I'm not happy about the OOT remake because I think it looks fucking ugly. I also think BOTW was great but I don't want every single fucking game they make to be open world. They take way longer to develop and they're far less replayable / memorable long term. I've played every 3d zelda over half a dozen times except skyward sword, i've played botw 1.5 times and totk once. I could already for for a TP or MM playthrough again and I still have no desire to replay either open world games
>>
>>747235363
The water temple looks very atmospheric. Give it a chance. It just might grow on you.
>>
>>747234658
Yay, another remake that plays exactly like the original except they hired that guy! Wow! :D
>>
>>747235586
thats what they said about my tumor, no thanks
>>
>>747232223
Genshin far surpassed Zelda thougheverbeit, it's the science-fantasy-exploration IP successor
>>
>>747232254
game design in open world games havent really evolved in any meaningful ways. in the ways it does it quickly becomes stale
>>
>>747230976
Kirby... in a vast new world...
>>
>>747230976
Nah, they messed up when they didn't make Metroid Prime 4 open world and attempted to use the OoT formula.
>>
>>747230976
I don't want to make my own fun. I want to be entertained. Entertain me.
>>
>>747231683
Best Metroidvania ever

>>747232223
Can’t underestimate the influence of BOTW

I hate Breath of the Wild so much. Not only it killed the Zelda series, but it infected the rest of Nintendo. A blight. A fucking blight.
>>

>all their games going open world will so dated,
YES SAAR, DO NOT REDEEM THE NINTENDO, THANK YOU COME AGAIN
>>
>>747235497
>i've played botw 1.5 times and totk once. I could already for for a TP or MM playthrough again and I still have no desire to replay either open world games

I think the problem here is more on ToTK reusing BotW's world.

I really don't care about replaying TP due to the forced exploration of the areas for the tears. It didn't bother me in a first playthrough, but I absolutely dread doing it again for a replay.

>Seamless open world game
>Look inside
>Seams
They can have an illusion of seamlessness at times, but a lot of open worlds still rely on soft or hard loading screens. And when you have a good seam that isolates the game's actual content, then it's just practical to actually create a real level, hence open worlds are level selects.

>>747230976
I don't see any reason this should be switch 2 exclusive. Looks like a switch 1 game
>>
>>747237945

You might have a point if the switch 1 didn't struggle to run so many switch 1 games.

But Kirby wasn't open world, it had really good stages with some branching paths and side area secrets
You can literally see both edges of the stage in your screenshot

>>747232254
anti-level design. The nature of the game's vastness makes you just want to ignore enemies, which are sparsely scattered around the map in order to reach whatever objective or loot you wanna grab.
>>
>>747236569

I see people saying this couldn't run on switch1.... lmao

>>
>>747239615
This is what its like to play Elden Ring, ect. Riding around on empty fields. Why would i need some content creator to tell me what to think?
Also, jewtubers dont have anything to say. have you ever watched a game essay? its basically them reading from a wiki article.

>>

You didn't play Elden Ring
>>
>>747230976
the level to level formula has been done to death for kirby. Forgotten Land suffered hard from it desu.
Id rather they did a 3d metroidvania but who knows, we only have one frame of the other world, and there are many chains connecting to the main floating thing, could just be lots of different setpieces in large mario 64 like areas with multiple things to do at once
