The fuck is VRR?
>>
>>747296775
tell me when its VR instead because i cant wait to get me some zelda cunny
>>
>>747296775
They also added Boost mode to quick menu
>>747296831
Just read the image bro
>>
>>747296775
eh, lots of games are capped at 30. don't they need to run at st least 48 so vrr kicks in?
>>
>>747296775
okay, this is crazy (I'm never using this, my TV doesn't support it)
>>
>>747296831
Don't worry about it, consolecuck.
>>
>>747296775
fucking hell, they just keep doing shit like this and not bother telling anybody lmao
i remember the boost mode was just a random night as well

Not too bad considering it took Sony 2 years to implement the same thing.
>>
>>747296775
the fuck is this?, is this just another one of those overpriced scams like 4k or HDR PC browns fell for all the time?
>>
>>747296915
Higher quality monitors can go down to 1Hz.
>>
>>747296775
i have a monitor with Freesync (down to 48hz tho), any recommendation to test this shit?
>>
>>747296996
If it's a PC cuck thing, we don't need it then.
>>
>>747297950
anon if your TV is compatible VRR makes the framerate in docked more stable
>>
>>747296831
Variable refresh rate, traditional displays have set intervals when a frame can be pushed to the display, VRR allows the system to tell the display when a frame is ready to be displayed and then the display shows it. This is potentially a significant improvement since updating a frame at the wrong time causes frame tearing with traditional displays so games would traditionally use something called v-sync to ensure that games push the frame at the correct timing, typically a game renders every 33.3ms at 30fps, but let's say a game scene is too complex and it takes the hardware a bit longer to draw a few frames, v-sync will jump in and push the framerate down to a fraction of 30fps, often 15fps but sometimes with double/triple buffer it could drop it down to only 20fps, VRR potentially fixes this by instead drawing the frame when it's ready, but it's not as simple as that because there's all kinds of caveats and I most likely explained things incorrectly while getting the core concept probably wrong too, like VRR displays have a minimum framerate that VRR works at, dropping below that will maybe cause screen tearing or trigger V-sync.

I wish there was a way to use homebrew in 7th gen consoles to get VRR there.
>>

Yeah, the Pragmata or Onimusha demos are the best places for everyone to test
It’s very noticeable with Onimusha
>>
can it do HDR tho?

For some reason, the Mii Maker also got background music added, with all 3 old themes from Wii, 3DS and Wii U (as well as "Off") as options.
Seems they're figuring out the post-launch data allocation for RAM faster than anticipated, even if their priorities are a bit unusual (as is standard with these guys)
>>
>>747298787
There's most likely a hardware issue preventing this, the Switch 2's hardware supports VRR, but it had issues going from display port over USB-C to the dock and then through HDMI to the TV.
>>
>>747298843
most everything on switch 2 is fake hdr, they would need to patch the games
https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch2/comments/1t71ifm/list_of_games_with_native_hdr_support/
FF7 Remake has real HDR though
>>
>>747296775
Oh fuck yes, finally. Jesus. This should've been in there on launch day. But I'll take in time for Duskbloods because everyone knows that FROM's never going to deliver a game with a consistent framerate.
>>
>>747299043
Also remember to properly calibrate the Switch 2's HDR settings and only activate it on games that properly use it (case-by case)

>>
>>747298843
Always could. But so far Nintendo can't into HDR. Even their outsourced games like Star Fox are doing it wrong and using ITM. Some third parties do it correctly.
>>
Does it handle LFC? Or do developers need to do that?
>>
is breath of the wild HDR good tho?
>>
>>747299263
no, it's ITM, I don't think first parties have any real hdr
>>
>>747299263
No.
>>
>>747296775
We shouldn't have moved on from CRTs. Back in the day you just output a 60hz signal and the game ran at whatever framerate and it looked good. Now you need some chinese slave made displays with specific versions of inputs and cables made to work with them properly and the VRR only kicks in when it hits a specific framerate and if it's 1 frame above that and still looks terrible tough shit.
>>
>>747298964
Also 7th gen HDMI specifications only get to HDMI 1.3 at best, which is ancient especially since the gen uses 2 decade-old hardware.

Just in time for Stellar Blade.

hot take
VRR on consoles is a fucking crutch for shit fucking dogshit developers and should be as unacceptable to owners of discrete platforms, nevermind allowed for by licensing standards for the platform (read: Sony/Nintendo should never grant licenses to software that can not maintain 60fps 99.9999% of the time.)

VRR is convenient for open platforms where developers CAN NOT reasonably be expected to know their development budgets relative any individual hardware configuration. Just like quality settings adjusting performance are accommodations for this mysterious development space, but VRR becomes a technology avenue for end users to adapt their configurations, or else compensate for a few unfortunate bottlenecks that may affect their game experience, but in the 90th's percentile. Say, fluctuating between 50-60 with some consistency.

This just means standards, where there legitimately SHOULD be standards, are fucking crumbling, and the entire reason for owning a closed down - literally can ban your fucking hardware - platform are evaporating.

Except that's bullshit and you're falling for the CRT copeaganda for retards. CRTs had screen tearing out the ass, and the reason why v-sync and displays are so fucked is because of flat panel monitors having to maintain stupid ass raster scanning for backwards compatibility with CRTs.
>>
>>747299547
Shut the fuck up you doomer retard. If your game doesn't let me stack so many explosions on the screen that I bring the framerate to its knees, it's a shit game. When I play good games that let me do this, I want the game to still present frames correctly and look smooth.
>>
>>747299647
>CRTs had screen tearing out the ass
this isn't true? just activate vsync if you're getting screen tearing in your game.
>>
>>747299759
The whole reason why v-sync exists is because of CRT raster scanning. If display standards took advantage of the fact that flat panel displays DIDN'T scan the screen with an electron gun, we wouldn't have any of these problems. There's very good reasons why people don't want v-sync, like reducing input lag. You know, that other thing that CRTfags are always going on about.

You don't need VRR on EDF
>>
>>747299924
You definitely need VRR on EDF.
>>
VRR is a basic feature
no reason not to have it
>>
>>747299970
EDF didn't need VRR when it started on CRTs, it doesn't need it now
>>
>>747300019
And yet somehow Xbox is the only console that isn't fucking it up.
>>
>>747299893
you're telling in 2026 that GPU companies are adhering to video standards on displays that haven't been manufactured in 16+ years on GPUs that haven't shipped with connectors that support those displays since the GTX900 series? And they are still doing this in 2026? The problem is the GPU sending frames out of sync with the display because they still send each frame from top to bottom line by line like analogue displays instead of sending them as complete frames one at time in sync with the modern display? And that frame tearing is happening because the game devs use something called vsync to sync the GPUs output with the display but gamers aren't using it because doing this causes input lag that they wouldn't get if the gpu just ignored the display and fired frames as fast as it can which causes the top and bottom half of the display to have a mismatch because the gamer wanted the action to appear as fast on the screen as possible even though the display isn't ready for it and so the gamer has less perceived input lag because for example their gun display itself as firing fast on the top half of the screen even though the bottom half isn't ready to display that firing animation yet and so its a frame behind?
