>>
just works for me 90% of the time
depressing though that some games still choose to use anticheats that don't have linux ports.

But seriously, espcially now with the ability to vibecode a fix for any game/software (radmin works now, arma tfar and other crazy ass dll hook shit scripts work, dogshit coded mods, etc.), I've had 0 instances of "sorry bro I can't play that game" (except for one brand new game with basically zero players, and in that case I just didnt care enough to debug it).
>>
>>747383423
i installed linux, tried playing a VN and had to spend 2 days trying to get it to work. "just works" with proton my ass
it does work with modern and popular stuff and you'll probably get better performance too since the system is much more lightweight but what kind of retard actually play those games

minecraft works just fine on linux, I've got a few hundred hours in my GTNH mod pack world.
>>
>>747383948
You really only have to do it once (and not for every vn, just old ones or ones on certain engines) though. You set up the prefix that makes the hard one work and then use that same prefix for every other one. Plus a lot of the newer wine/proton versions seem to preapply alot of the common fixes so more and more I find myself not having to fix anything.

Anyways, I'll do whatever to not have to deal with windows getting worse every update and doing unexplainable dot net disgusting code shenanigans that somehow get easier to understand in linux lol.
>>
>>747383423
OP could simply buy a Windows 10 computer and use it (LTSC 2021). It would be even a miracle to be able to run Skyrim on VM one day. Assuming you need to emulate Intel HD graphics or Athlon (Bare minimum in 2009). Linux has modern supports but no ancient supports. Thus it is one of the reason.
>>
>>747384463
>windows getting worse every update
disable the updates nigger. not just for windows, for every software. why would i want updates when the current version works
>>
Switched to linux mint this year, love it. Have some issues every once in a while but its usually fixable. Rest in piss windows.
>>
>>747383423
How is running a command once and installing everything like normal "MORE EFFORT FOR A WORSE EXPERIENCE" when I even get less stutter and more frames?
>>747383569
Minecraft has native builds on Linux, what the fuck are you saying? And QEMU has graphics emulation.
>>
>tries to game on Red Hat Enterprise

Install a meme distro like Cachy that's specialised in gaming and content creation like video/image/audio editing, or Bazzite that's straight up a gaming distro, or even Mint which has wonky but working gaming drivers. There's also Nobara which I heard does gaming very well too but I personally don't know what it's really capable of.
From personal experience I can tell you there's not a single issue you can't solve with a minimal amount of effort on Linux. The reward is bigger than letting Windows hold your hand and eventually stab you in the back.
>>
>>747384606
The average Linux user is the kind that needs updoots every week. They will never use LTSC
>>
>>747384606
>It would be even a miracle to be able to run Skyrim on VM one day
You can, easily. KVM/Qemu has GPU passthrough, you can emulate any game on Linux and even use DLSS.

>>

Why the fuck would anyone install a distro made for a McDonald's touchscreen menu? Especially since it also has an end-of-life, and it's coming sooner than later. And don't tell us you're gonna be using your ATM OS way past its expiration date like some /v/tards who still use Windows XP just to flex.
You know it's not a matter of updoots. It's a matter of self-ownership, freedom, and power. Sounds fucking pompous but it's true.
>>747386860
Careful that some Windows update doesn't undual your boot. The latest Windows 10 security update just removed my boot manager and now I have to enter the bios everytime I want to switch OS.
Ubuntu is the basis of Mint, I guess it works for gaming. Don't distrust distros just because they are memed. For me it's CachyOS, based on Arch. Bazzite is based on Fedore... Sometimes it's not a bad idea to use a fork of a traditional distro because the team behind it is focused on adapting the base distro to your needs.
>>
>>747386860
Ubuntu is a bit shitty in how they force snaps down everyone's throats, one of Mint's strong points is that it removes snaps and restores native packages. Other than that, it should be fine, as long as DE you chose works for you.

Think of that kids,
You lose functionalities as time goes by and it become more impossible to go back. They did that ever since Windows ME. If you really want to preserve your memories, You have to adapt it to the current years. Linux is alright for the modern days and age however if you want to go back in time, Anything before Windows 10 is recommended. If you are serious about it.
>>
>>747387864
You do you but going back in time is never a good choice. Realistically you can't, ideally you shouldn't. You got it right, you have to adapt to the current years and situation, but do it so you work towards the future from the present position, and leave the past to teach lessons and nothing else.

>>
>>747388338
Deliberately blocking Linux isn't a lack of support, it's digital rights management. In this case, you are being denied the right to run the game on Linux.
Lack of support is just the company not giving you any help running the game in an unsupported configuration when you contact them. Which should not be a dealbreaker since anyone sane has been voiding warranties on devices to make them run DOOM for the last 20 years.

You clearly don't remember how games used to be on 7. Windows is so buggy now.

It's more like how Windows ME plays games nowadays. So shit. I think they fucked up the NT kernel now with indian devs or something. It's just breaking constantly lately, almost as much as linux. But that was only because the VM broke because of kernel shit in windows for me.

Just open source that kernel already ffs. Before it's too late.

They've fucked up everything the debugging crew unfucked in the early 2010s with 7. Russinovich must be seething.
Back in the day they had literal tutorials on how to hack and debug windows and I swear there was ironically less malware back then because more people could recognise the malware with those tools and understood their machine better.

Considering the cost of forcing telemetry and cybersecurity initiatives in windows today, it's utterly baffling they made they choice they did. It must be costing them a fortune with all of this gatekeeping nowadays.

I've used Linux for almost a decade but I couldn't stand all the commie redditor devs anymore.
>>
For 20 years now, I've been trying on a regular basis (every 2–3 years when I'm bored) to use Linux as my daily driver. I start by setting up a dual boot with Windows, I use Linux (my first distro was Mandrake), everything goes fine until something goes wrong, and having to scour the forums to try to fix stupid problems with audio or other peripherals instead of just using my system, it eventually wears me out, so I go back to Windows, wipe the Linux partitions, and tell myself, “better luck next time.”
I’ve been using CachyOS since March, it seems the Linux community has finally settled on pipewire for audio (ALSA? PulseAudio? JACK? JACK2? idk go fuck yourself), the experience has been generally satisfying, and for all those times when something ends up becoming a problem, there’s finally a solution: claude code (or any other CLI harness). If I have even the slightest problem, I ask claude code to dig through the logs and find a solution, and it does. Same goes for games: if I have display or performance issues (which is rare), good old claude code digs through the proton logs and gives me a ready-to-use solution. I haven’t booted into Windows in weeks.
That said, I still wouldn’t recommend anyone use Linux by claiming that everything now works perfectly.

around this time you forgot the crucial step of messing with partitions in a very specific way because apparently the default setup on any given distro is dogshit and you should actually do some other bullshit or a lot of programs will just break or not even work in the first place

i tried linux for the first time a couple months ago. it's as i expected, the experience is not so great. nobara os with nvidia drivers btw
i want everything to just work. double click, boom. -some- games are like that. some games require me to use lutris. some games require met to use lutris + setting up a special prefix environment. some games have graphical issues. some games don't work at all. those are for pirated games. steam games, for the most part i haven't any issues yet. but it's annoying to wait for shaders to set up before the game runs and then wait again when the game wants to do it too.

i'm still using linux because an os is more about just gaming. but for the gaming experience, windows is more seamless

On the contrary, I found managing any Linux distribution much easier than Windows. On Windows if something broke you use utilities like dism, bootrec, bcedit. yeah fine but remember two things:
1. If you use Linux then the gov still can identify you, maybe not microsoft directly, but you're still out there, only on Linux instead of Windows.
2. If you have a smartphone then you're fucked. You have absolutely no privacy left. You're indetified to hell and back.

Privacy has been dead for decades now. Even before smartphones and the internet, there were ways to find you and identify you.
>wait until anon learns his internet router can be used to reverse 3D map his whole house
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it isn't worth it to try and preserve your privacy, but you won't do it by just using Linux instead of Windows.

The amount the game changes if you do the things you have to do to get to hell is legitimately impressive. And the gameplay ends up being different because of how much you have to use the special jetpack.

Quick reminder that on Windows your IP address is periodically linked to a Microsoft "GDID" or global device identifier value which is calculated based on your physical TPM chip. It regenerates if you reinstall windows but the fact that it's calculated based on your TPM chip does mean they're all linkable to eachother and you.
No big deal as long as you understand that this means changing your IP via VPN cannot secure legal plausible deniability on Windows anymore. Stay safe!

Dont listen to that anon hes being retarded. SMT is both a good starting entry for newcomers and also a good game in general. VV/V is just a disjointed experience, it's a twisted zoomnigger nightmare, possibly the worst thing that could've happen to the IP, another modernized entry for the casual fanbase. The Franchise is dead, VV and persona 5 niggers killed it.

Or so the sign says
>>
>>747383423
Anybody who isn't retarded knows that. You should've expected nothing else dummy.
>>
>>747450086
IV is not the best entry for a number of reasons
>locked on the 3ds which means emulation and the emulation for it is pisspoor
>beginning of the game and starting dungeon are a huge fucking slog
>both law and chaos options are fucking shit
V is a much better starting option, as it is literally available on modern platforms.
>>
>>747437481
Yeah, but they are unwilling to put up with difficulty THEMSELVES to try and make that happen. Someone else has to do it.
>>

NIGGA THE EMULATOR RUNS NATEVELY ONT FUCKING LINUX REEEE
REEE
REEE STAY IN WINDOWS AND NEVER COMEBEACCK REEEE
>>
>>747450251
the emuatlor itself is not the issue retard, its IV and IVa themselves that are the issue. Up until recently you couldnt even emulate them without extreme ghosting and even now that there is a patch for it they still have other issues that are not present on actual hardware (which is how I play them).
>>
>>747450332
>>747450196
I'm really interested in this debate, I'm serious. I don't know what to start with. I've never emulated a DS game but I can't imagine it works very well.
>>
>>747450219
>blaming the user
no
>>
>>747450469
its a 3ds game and getting it working will be a way bigger pain than playing V because you will have to pirate the roms and get the anti ghosting patch. That being said, if you do enjoy V, IV and IVa are very good and you should play them too. I just dont think they are good starting entries. Honestly 3 might be a better starting entry than IV just because it is also on steam.
>>
>>747450469
it works natively in linux, Azahar literally just

flatpak install flathub org.azahar_emu.Azahar

and go to vimm. It's easy as easy can be, also IV is the most kino entry in the series. V is just an empty open world full of collectible, characters that have 0 personality and a dogshit story

>muh ghosting

That anon is retarded, you can tell cause he likes VV, just set the 3D strength to 1% don't ask me why but it just works.
>>
>>747450585
Well it's not my first rodeo with emulation, I'm sure I can figure that out and having to put in a little work before I get to play doesn't bother me so it's not really an issue.

3 is on steam but expensive to just take a chance on. Ironically the easiest way to just check it out is playing V's demo cause I don't have to drop any cash in yet.

I'm more interested in what is the best experience for a first-time constraints outside of the game aside.
>>
>>747450808
NATIVELY
NATIVE
TO
LINUX
Go back both of you

This is so fucking cancer, you can literally set up the emulation and rom in less than a minute in linux. You people deserve Windows.
>>
>>747450871
You're having a fucking temper tantrum over the wrong thing anon. No one is argueing that 3ds emulators are not native to linux. That has literally nothing to do with what we are talking about. Of course Azahar has a flatpak and appimage. Are you too fucking autistic to even have a conversation?

>>
>>747450997
Yes. Cancer like VV, Persona 5 and Methapor killed Atlus. People that recommend those entries are rotten on the inside or straight up evil. You can set up the emulation in less than a minute, if you can't you should go back to windows you are not tailored to Linux

They killed the small IPs like smtiv, eo and sj. you are a gorilla nigro and you deserve to be called one because you are arguing in bad faith.
If you want to act retarded i can too act retarded, i'm simply lowering down to your level. Hey wanna hamao for 50% of the game while we collect red korokos friend? You like that don't you? that's pogchamps

Not only you are arguing in bad faith you are also evil. You wanted him to play VV because the emulator "is really hard to setup and the game has problems" Both are wrong statements.

I just dual boot. When I wanna play games I just boot a windows 10 partition which doesn't update anymore so it's very stable. For everything else I go to my Ubuntu partition.
I don't like wasting time troubleshooting things when I wanna play.

look anon this should make you happy. you're going to be upset at my choice of emulation software, aren't you? I already had this setup for a link to the past

now can the debate continue on which is the better game to actually play first, all emulation talk aside?
>>
>>747451679
Wine is a bit faster than windows in some tasks and slower in others, but the star of the show is DXVK/D3DVK.
Vulkan fucking mogs DirectX12, even when emulating it, specially in shit like shader compilation.
However you CAN use dxvk on windows as well, and it's a great idea if you want to play GTA IV in particular.
>>
>>747452030
Is vulkan not available on windows or something? Why wouldn't wintards just switch to it?

you can ask this question about a lot of software related things

because people are used to it even if it actively harms them. kinda like using windows.
>>
>>747383423
Linux just werkz(tm)when nobody is looking
>>
>>747452379
The worst best part is that the company that they all envy (rockstar) actually use vulkan.
RDR2 at least can use it for a performance gain, and probably will be the case with GTA6 as well.
>>
>>747452437
It works better than Windows 10 and 11.
Windows 7 mogs it, but you're not allowed to use Windows 7, you must use Windows 10, then Windows 11, then Windows penis, because it is going into your machine regardless of how good or back it is.
>>
>>747452379
>microsoft controller api
My friend plugged in a new xboner controller into his PC the other day and was convinced there was something wrong cause when he pulled up the driver, it was dated 2007 lmao

The one that you like the most. VV isn't really a shin megoomi tensei, it's just a modern game wearing SMT skin but if that's what (you) like then it can't be helped.
