works on my machine :)
just works for me 90% of the timedepressing though that some games still choose to use anticheats that don't have linux ports. But seriously, espcially now with the ability to vibecode a fix for any game/software (radmin works now, arma tfar and other crazy ass dll hook shit scripts work, dogshit coded mods, etc.), I've had 0 instances of "sorry bro I can't play that game" (except for one brand new game with basically zero players, and in that case I just didnt care enough to debug it).

>>747383948You really only have to do it once (and not for every vn, just old ones or ones on certain engines) though. You set up the prefix that makes the hard one work and then use that same prefix for every other one. Plus a lot of the newer wine/proton versions seem to preapply alot of the common fixes so more and more I find myself not having to fix anything.Anyways, I'll do whatever to not have to deal with windows getting worse every update and doing unexplainable dot net disgusting code shenanigans that somehow get easier to understand in linux lol.
>>747383423OP could simply buy a Windows 10 computer and use it (LTSC 2021). It would be even a miracle to be able to run Skyrim on VM one day. Assuming you need to emulate Intel HD graphics or Athlon (Bare minimum in 2009). Linux has modern supports but no ancient supports. Thus it is one of the reason.
>>747384463>windows getting worse every updatedisable the updates nigger. not just for windows, for every software. why would i want updates when the current version works
Switched to linux mint this year, love it. Have some issues every once in a while but its usually fixable. Rest in piss windows.

>tries to game on Red Hat Enterprise>criesInstall a meme distro like Cachy that's specialised in gaming and content creation like video/image/audio editing, or Bazzite that's straight up a gaming distro, or even Mint which has wonky but working gaming drivers. There's also Nobara which I heard does gaming very well too but I personally don't know what it's really capable of.From personal experience I can tell you there's not a single issue you can't solve with a minimal amount of effort on Linux. The reward is bigger than letting Windows hold your hand and eventually stab you in the back.

Don't distrust distros just because they are memed. For me it's CachyOS, based on Arch. Bazzite is based on Fedore... Sometimes it's not a bad idea to use a fork of a traditional distro because the team behind it is focused on adapting the base distro to your needs.

Think of that kids,You lose functionalities as time goes by and it become more impossible to go back. They did that ever since Windows ME. If you really want to preserve your memories, You have to adapt it to the current years. Linux is alright for the modern days and age however if you want to go back in time, Anything before Windows 10 is recommended. If you are serious about it.
>>747387864You do you but going back in time is never a good choice. Realistically you can't, ideally you shouldn't. I've used Linux for almost a decade but I couldn't stand all the commie redditor devs anymore.
For 20 years now, I've been trying on a regular basis (every 2–3 years when I'm bored) to use Linux as my daily driver. I start by setting up a dual boot with Windows, I use Linux (my first distro was Mandrake), everything goes fine until something goes wrong, and having to scour the forums to try to fix stupid problems with audio or other peripherals instead of just using my system, it eventually wears me out, so I go back to Windows, wipe the Linux partitions, and tell myself, “better luck next time.”I’ve been using CachyOS since March, it seems the Linux community has finally settled on pipewire for audio (ALSA? PulseAudio? JACK? JACK2? idk go fuck yourself), the experience has been generally satisfying, and for all those times when something ends up becoming a problem, there’s finally a solution: claude code (or any other CLI harness). If I have even the slightest problem, I ask claude code to dig through the logs and find a solution, and it does. Same goes for games: if I have display or performance issues (which is rare), good old claude code digs through the proton logs and gives me a ready-to-use solution. I haven’t booted into Windows in weeks. That said, I still wouldn’t recommend anyone use Linux by claiming that everything now works perfectly.

Is Mint actually worth using over gaymer distros like Bazzite or Cachy?
>>747444168Mint is very solid. I never used them but these "gaming distros" seem like a meme. I don't understand what their appeal is other than marketing.

>>747383948i couldn't figure out how to get VNs to work under a universal prefix myself either, some would need different dontnet/c++ redists, cjk fonts sometimes break games, all kinds of webview runtime problems, codec garbage that would break some and work on others, games rejecting to run because its detecting not-real-windows. some worked flawlessly while some just wouldn't run, VNs with animated scenes would either have black video, no animation or just straight up crash at the scene. anyway i gave up on that shit and just installed windows 10 on an isolated VM with no internet for VNs. that has been working perfectly and vmware's hardware acceleration is good enough for that. granted that was several years ago and maybe its better now but i can't be fucked to try again

>>747383423Quick reminder that on Windows your IP address is periodically linked to a Microsoft "GDID" or global device identifier value which is calculated based on your physical TPM chip. It regenerates if you reinstall windows but the fact that it's calculated based on your TPM chip does mean they're all linkable to eachother and you. No big deal as long as you understand that this means changing your IP via VPN cannot secure legal plausible deniability on Windows anymore. Stay safe!

Mint is very far behind because they are working on moving their cinnamon desktop over to the newer display protocol. you're better off on Ubuntu Cinnamon or Xubuntu 26.04 if you're getting started. just know that a lot of the stupid shit that is in Ubuntu isn't in other distros and was only instituted fairly recently.

>>747449746Dont listen to that anon hes being retarded. SMT is both a good starting entry for newcomers and also a good game in general. Its not perfect and is clearly flawed in several ways but it still does a lot of other things very well. I would say its main flaw is its lack of dungeons, which is a real shame because that is staple of SMT games. But it more than makes up for it with everything else that it drastically improves on from its predecessor's.

>>747396287>using forums in 2026I installed an emulator, my controller didn't work. I asked Grok about it and I copy pasted a line of command to give the emulator controller permission. It took less than a couple of minutes and the emulator is running way better than in windows.

>>747449962IV is the best game the IP has to offer and also the best entry point. Then 1 and 2. Lastly 3 cause i don't really like 3.VV/V is just a disjointed experience, it's a twisted zoomnigger nightmare, possibly the worst thing that could've happen to the IP, another modernized entry for the casual fanbase. The Franchise is dead, VV and persona 5 niggers killed it.Or so the sign says
>>747383423Anybody who isn't retarded knows that. You should've expected nothing else dummy.
>>747450086IV is not the best entry for a number of reasons>locked on the 3ds which means emulation and the emulation for it is pisspoor>beginning of the game and starting dungeon are a huge fucking slog>both law and chaos options are fucking shitV is a much better starting option, as it is literally available on modern platforms.
>>747437481Yeah, but they are unwilling to put up with difficulty THEMSELVES to try and make that happen. Someone else has to do it.

>>747450251the emuatlor itself is not the issue retard, its IV and IVa themselves that are the issue. Up until recently you couldnt even emulate them without extreme ghosting and even now that there is a patch for it they still have other issues that are not present on actual hardware (which is how I play them).
>>747450332>>747450196I'm really interested in this debate, I'm serious. I don't know what to start with. I've never emulated a DS game but I can't imagine it works very well.
>>747450219>blaming the userno
>>747450469its a 3ds game and getting it working will be a way bigger pain than playing V because you will have to pirate the roms and get the anti ghosting patch. That being said, if you do enjoy V, IV and IVa are very good and you should play them too. I just dont think they are good starting entries. Honestly 3 might be a better starting entry than IV just because it is also on steam.
>>747450469it works natively in linux, Azahar literally just flatpak install flathub org.azahar_emu.Azaharand go to vimm. It's easy as easy can be, also IV is the most kino entry in the series. V is just an empty open world full of collectible, characters that have 0 personality and a dogshit story>muh ghostingThat anon is retarded, you can tell cause he likes VV, just set the 3D strength to 1% don't ask me why but it just works.
>>747450585Well it's not my first rodeo with emulation, I'm sure I can figure that out and having to put in a little work before I get to play doesn't bother me so it's not really an issue. 3 is on steam but expensive to just take a chance on. Ironically the easiest way to just check it out is playing V's demo cause I don't have to drop any cash in yet.I'm more interested in what is the best experience for a first-time constraints outside of the game aside.
>>747450808NATIVELY NATIVETOLINUXGo back both of you This is so fucking cancer, you can literally set up the emulation and rom in less than a minute in linux. You people deserve Windows.

>>747450871can you stop sperging out for a second, I've been on linux for 5 years now, I'm never going back. I already have the emulator running and I'm downloading the ROM right now
>>747450997Yes. Cancer like VV, Persona 5 and Methapor killed Atlus. People that recommend those entries are rotten on the inside or straight up evil.
