My first playthrough of Oblivion was done without fast travel. I must confess it's because I paid no attention to the very idea of it, I was surprised when I was told it was a thing. That being said, going across the map on foot, doing quests piecemeal based on what I was close to and what town had the most open quests, just experiencing the game organically, was the most fun I ever had with a Bethesda game. Fast travel is a temptation that eventually sucks all the fun out of a game.
>>747456726you forgot to say what was your favorite town
For me it's the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary in Cheydinhal. Mi familia!
>>747456837Whoops. Chorrol was pretty good as far as towns go, but I have a weakness for port towns, so my vote goes to Anvil.

>>747455791>So the Jemanes have once again reclaimed Weatherleah eh. Good for them.I love this questline way more than it has any right to be. Having an entire town react to a quest you did (even if its all the exact same reaction) made it so endearing.

>>747466162I tried that both with Oblivion and Skyrim, and both were designed with using fast travel in mind that when you don't use it, you quickly realize how many of the quests require you to travel massive distances between locations. Even something as simple as a "go here and grab this thing for me" kind of quest will have you go from, say, Bravil to Bruma, with a quick stop at Cheydinhall. I got used to the part where I'm just gonna have to use it, but it does mean you can take advantage of it to travel from one section of the map to the other to make the minimum 3 days pass by for zones to reset. Makes it real easy to get enough materials for endless potions.

>>747468340I went with the Through the Valleys modlist and recently added Maskar's Overhaul, it's nice to see new things in a game I know so much about but I regret going hand to hand because it sucks so much shit. Should've just gone with a sword&board character because early game combat can be very tricky.
>>747468340>>747468518Also I've never done a proper magic playtrough in Oblivion but it seems like it's boring because it essentially boils down to>wait until you can create custom spells, fortify your magicka as much as you can>debuff them with a 100% weakness spell then hit them with your custom made 9999 damage nuke spell that costs 99% of your magicka pool
>>747465680>dinner serves itself on imperials porch and he complainsthe dwemer were right

>>747456726I'm playing through TES games for the first time now. i really liked a lot about morrowind (havent played 1 and 2 but i mean to eventually) that is so different in oblivion. i particularly dislike fast travel for sure. but i also really dislike the new real time-ish mini games like lockpicking and persuasion that obviously nerfed these mechanics because they're not stat checks. lockpicking is basically impossible to fail now so of course merchants dont have their best items on display and they dont exist in the game world. one of many things that make oblivion so much less organic to me. the way the persuasion minigame is presented is also dumb. the games ambition to have cinematic presentation just harms it so much. not just because the graphics and animations arent convincing anymore, when you add voice acting you have to strip back the dialogue topics by so much. somehow they feel less like real people than morrowind npcs. and you cant taunt people into attacking you, all persuasion options just make people like you more permanently. I think the game just has a totally different design philosophy in general which is so strange. I don't understand how morrowind could have familiarizing yourself with a foreign world as its main appeal and basically entire concept and its sequel would try to strip that out as much as possible. quests in morrowind have you set off somewhere and find your way to that place. you then approach that task however you want. the world feels organic and not built for your convenience. the topography is like a mechanic by itself and very interesting, and it could incentivize you to getting a levitate spell for instance. this has been almost completely absent in oblivions quests. you can probably still get that feeling if you set off aimlessly somewhere but that hasnt been very compelling. the world is pretty but not especially interesting (may be subjective) and the landmarks are even more repetitive.
>>747469043>Though focusing on conjuration and/or illusion is also very viable and less braindeadHow does that work? Aren't you limited to one summon that'll more or less be equal or inferior to a regular level scaled enemy, or at best spamming Charm on enemies until they help kill each other?
>>747469348in essence each part of morrowind from traversal to lockpicking etc feels more like a proper mechanic, and the whole game feels built around the idea of giving you some agency and keeping the world organic, not having gamey or artificial restrictions, and the mechanics mostly fit cohesively with that concept. im guessing my issues with oblivion apply to every bethesda game after it too.
have they said anything about when the Remastered patch is coming for PC/console? On console there's currently not even an option to disable the hud, how did they not think of such a basic feature before launch when pretty much every kind of game like this has it, including skyrim.
>>747469973remaster slop slurpers are not welcome.
>>747455791Bruma...
>>747469348That's nice but if we talk about Skyrim or New Vegas I bet you wouldn't be making these points.Because ultimately you're just a dedicated contrarian looking for easy social clout who thought he could get it by attacking Oblivion but got surprised by the reality of the situation. There's nothing wrong with a general likeability instead of per-dialogue persuation. Arcanum does it and so do many other great RPGs that aren't tied to the retarded table shit rules. You're absolutey insane about the dialogue amount bullshit. Literally nobody thought the wikipedia shit was immersive. It maybe allowed more lore but it was 100% a detractor for believability of the game. And most of your points are just cherry picking nonsense. Morrowind was bland gray jungle with caves just as much as Oblivion was bland forest with caves. The big empty cities didn't change that much since there wasn't much to do and it felt like an empty hotel.
I don't understand why this game never captured me so heartily like Skyrim and Morrowind.I played a full 100+ hour game of Skyrim with as many gameplay mods as I could think of.It was a tossup between Morrowind and Oblivion, but the deciding factor was going to be RPG mechanics and character building. So I went into a mostly vanilla Morrowind run to try and finally "Four Hand" that game (It's my own personal completion rating system. Four hand is the highest one, but doesn't mean 100%)Next, I started on Oblivion. This time with a slightly different character hoping it'd capture me the same way, but then I just sort of stopped after while. Instead, I went on to start a CRPG Odyssey as I've been calling it. I finished eight games in the last year (including Daggerfall Unity) but that Oblivion character is still sitting there.

>>747471216anon, the game is NOT trash
>>747470635i have not played skyrim or new vegas, and new vegas isn't even a bethesda gameim becoming more and more convinced that a good rpg just lets the fun and immersion mostly happen in your head (kind of like a tabletop game). when you give the games a cinematic presentation you're clearly shifting the focus from roleplay and immersion to impressive set piece quests or at least that's what bethesda did. the more realistic looking and the more voiced dialogue you have the harder it is for your imagination to blur the games flawed presentation or lacking mechanics (i mean the behavior of npcs and such). I have not played kcd though, that might be an rpg that pulls that kind of thing off, but its obviously completely different from bethesda games in appeal and mechanics. i absolutely think improved presentation can help with immersion in an rpg but only when it's done properly and you're not biting off more than you can chew in regards to the mechanics of your game, which is probably why skyrim 6 is taking forever to make.>There's nothing wrong with a general likeability instead of per-dialogue persuationthe persuasion mini game looks very stupid. and the mechanic in general is much more limited. I don't see how that's not a downgrade.>wikipedia shitproblematic in its own way sure. especially the shared lines. but being unable to ask oblivion npcs about the most obvious thing thats wrong with their castle or about services is stupid. the dialogue probably shouldve remained text based, and the options probably shouldve been something between morrowind and what they ended up being.I disagree about the world, it's plain to see how morrowind's overworld is more interesting and traversal of it is more of an actual mechanic. judging by fast travel oblivion doesnt even really want you to spend that much time traversing its world.

>>747518852Thanks, I moved them to the top. I just installed shit in the order it was listed and the author even provides a bashed patch, I assumed that or MO would automagically fix all load orders and conflicts.
>>747518851I didn't insert myself into the conversation. You posted an image. I responded to how the retarded person in the image was trying to pretend to be non-American by using "armour," but couldn't do it consistently (since lies are hard to keep straight as they get more complex). You're a faggot. You lick hippopotamus anus.
oblivion is gay
>>747517917Because "Armor" is part of the mod name the guy is talking about, while he always spells it "Armour" otherwise. Are you just retarded?
>>747519004Check the load order of the data content / ESPs as well, put the UPs above everything else there too (just below the last official Bethesda plugin)
>>747519086morrowind has lesbian dwarves but what did oblivion have?
>>747519206You, the player.
>>747519125Yuros like spelling stuff wrong even in titles.
>>747519283but im not gay or in the game
>>747519047The image was posted along with a direct, specific question to a person (who has conveniently stopped replying since you started replying) so yes, you inserted yourself into his and my conversation. You have to make up absolute nothingburger shit to be mad about then lie and sperg out when confronted about it. Absolutely pathetic.
Elsweyr... home...

>>747458785Characters looked like shit and were criticized in magazines when game came out. Rest of the game looks and graphics were praised
>>747519791WE BREAK UP ROCK FOR BORSCHT AND ROCK, BUT ONLY WHEN WE CAN AFFORD ROCK
>>747519841It was a weird period where idTech and Zenimax shit was all heavily normal mapped. Gears of War had solid normal mapping, but the others just took it to an extreme. The models were extremely low poly compared to the textures.
>>747520647Those look terrible
>>747519612>>747519695are these mods still getting updates or just outright abandoned?
>>747520878All the faces in Oblivion do. That's the point.
>>747520647A bit before Oblivion Half Life 2 was praised for Alyx and Gman looks iirc. Can't remember gears of war character looks at the top of my head right now.
>>747471216That one street in skingrad is absolute KINO medieval city
>>747521287They did a solid job blending model detail and normal map detail.
>>747513415>Only Oblivion can get away with itMorrowind did it already, anon.
>>747489882chat, is this real?
>>747521931Morrowind's world is fucking ugly and weird

>>747488315>a fantasy world not chasing realismThe Shivering Isles sure, but vanilla Oblivion does suffer quite a bit from it looking like the most regular fantasy everStill, they made almost every town extremely comfy in its way. So they did ace that standard look at the very least
>>747520878no they don't you disingenuous faggot.
>>747513208roleplay. no other reason. it also makes the jermanes hate you

>>747456726>My first playthrough of Oblivion was done without fast travel. I must confess it's because I paid no attention to the very idea of itSame. I only learned it was a thing after discovering it in fallout 3. I haven't had as much fun with an elder scrolls as I did before fast travel existed in my mind. yeah I can impose no fast travel on myself, but I won't
>>747513208Unless you were a metagaming fag (which I am) how would you know that the shield is worth more than 1500g unless you savescum the choice to see how much it's worth
>>747513208This shield is based as fuck for reflecting damage.
>>747461980UGH WHERE'S THE CONTRAST DESTROYING MIST? WHY IS THERE SO MUCH COLOR? I HATE THIS

>>747532956damn, not him but i might have to replay the game now
>>747532956>Set grass distance to 0>You are now touching grassHow horrible.
>>747455791For me, it's Anvil. The ghost house is by far the coolest player owned building in the game.
>>747455791>mfw I avoided seeing gameplay of the remaster of Oblivion foe months because I was hyped to buy it for some retarded reason>prices on pc parts soar to retarded heights so I just give up ever upgrading my pc to play it >watch gameplay>everybody has a deathmask>All saturation gone>fog fucking everywhere >lipsync is atrocious >did the bodytype bullshit>release zero modding toolsDodge a bullet there. Thank god wasn't taken off store fronts and the game just works so future platers can just play the original. Bethesda is fucking horrible but man at least they're not R* level bad and actually have respect for their legacy titles and communities.Hopefully people give up modding the demake and make more mods for vanilla Oblivion.
