They are too good at solving the plot. They can't be permanent companions like the fucking annoying Twins, because they are actually capable characters. Like, in Dawntrail, absolutely fucking nothing at all happens, then Y'shtola shows up for 5 minutes, solves the plot, creates a wormhole to the next plot, and then stays behind. Then when you're in the new place, fucking nothing at all ever happens, because Y'shtola stayed behind. And then in the post-patches, the only reason there is any inkling of the plot moving forward is because Y'shtola has started working on the cum chalice. If she was always around, expansions would like 5-10 hours, because there'd be no filler, because the plot would have no choice but to progress forward at a steady rate. That's why she can't be in every scene.

The first one is the obvious one and Square Enix is the pioneer of this problem which is the constant push for realism. It's ruined pacing in these games because everything has to have a believable cause and effect as they would in real life so we get slow as fuck animations that have no place in a game where your main characters have super powers and everything needs to happen in a consistent game world so now we have open world slop or nothing but unending corridors. Because god fucking forbid a game have an overworld to bridge the gameplay segments(unironically god bless E33 for having an overworld. I will never tolerate anyone not at least giving the game credit for that even if you hate literally everything else). The 2nd problem which is arguably not a problem at all depending on your preferences is the Atlus problem where the story has become too much of a focus where we have games that are 100+ hours long and 40% dialogue. Gone are the days where JRPGs were a nicely paced 30-50 hours long and the story wasn't particularly that important.

The pacing of JRPGs has been "ruined" ever since the PSX. That's when RPGs started being bloated 40 hour messes where you do literally nothing for half the game. They used to be 20 hour bangers like FFIV and Chrono Trigger. Most of you retards are too young to be talking about JRPGs. If you actually liked JRPGs, you'd be playing indie games, mods, and itch.io games, including RPGmaker games. No, E33 does not count as an indie game. And if you're a fan of turn-based combat you'd be playing dungeon crawlers and roguelikes/lites. I'm kinda meh on Resonance, because I have never felt as if I'm in the same JRPG drought that the average """Final Fantasy fan""" feels they are in because they don't play any RPGs unless they're named "Final Fantasy".
