Really, gameplay is the most subjective thing for Fighting Games, ironically. 97% of Fighting Games have not succeeded soley because of their Gameplay. It's because of the quality of everything else all put-together. All the gameplay needs is to not be literally broken or buggy. People only use SNK games' gameplay as an excuse for them doing practically everything else really mediocre, because it's the only thing they can do semi-competently. I've been listening to the GGS tracks and it sucks how much better a lot of them would be if the melody was instrumental instead of vocal. Venom's in particular has an excellent instrumental but something about the lyrics muddies it for me. I love a few of the earlier ones; Roar of the Spark, Love the Subhuman self, and Crawl are great. Mirror of the World is my personal number one in the OST, but I feel like for much of the rest of the music the vocals make it worse. And the thing that kills every theme, and I mean EVERY theme the most (even the ones I do like and acknowledge): Daisuke cannot write lyrics to SAVE HIS FUCKING LIFE. The most DECENT one is "Let's Talk About You" because it's the most straightforward, but in terms of lyrics, the lyrical flow that he wants to convey is completely shat on by Naoki's overly aggressive vocals doing strains and pitches that completely sound unnatural to him in a lot of songs like Testament's theme, or trying to sound overly grandiose/operatic in shit like Happy Chaos' theme. There is a COMPLETE disconnect between the vocal melody, flow of lyrics, and the content of the lyrics themselves just fucking suck and became more pseud-like post season 1, with Robo-ky's in particular being especially garbage. I assume the main reason for this is that Daisuke never wrote before Xrd, and since he was a melody guy, all he can do is just make vocal lines that sound like melodies.

Intercepting approaches, especially air to air, requires extremely precise positioning. When you're up against someone who has no qualms about launching themselves across the screen with fast homing and you're just trying to react and anti-air you're going to have a bad time. Jump-ins are equally rough, IAD approachs feel like ass because of how tiny air buttons are but if you use homing well your buttons start to work a lot better. This includes just using 6D or 4D on the ground instead of dashing. My initial hesitence about the game was that standard ground and airdash feels awful and the game wants you to use homing, but when you actually start using homing properly the game starts to just work.jabs being either super grounded 2As or 5As that whiff crouching further encourage you to be precise with your buttons. Modern games have such huge hitboxes in comparison arcana demands a different kind of play.The fun comes from learning to use your limited tools well rather than just mashing Good Button in every situation.
