Jrpgs usually start to drag on near the end, but what the fuck happened here?? More content is not always a good thing. I had to spend the whole night awake finishing this.

>I had to spend the whole night awake finishing this.
You couldn't save?
>>
>>747500060
Aren't these games woke?
>>
For me, it's Towa.
The KINO ending is one of the reasons why Cold Steel 2 is one of my favourite Trails games.
>>
>>747501014
All translations are woke
>>
>>747501014
A woke game would never allow you to romance a 14 year old teenager.
>>
>>747500060
Honestly this is why I just watched the ending on Youtube that was obscured. Thankfully you can't import the save to the third one so it doesn't matter if you finish it. However there is a VERY important lore cutscene that you can only get if you beat the game on New Game+ and collect a certain collectable. If you go to the third game without seeing it you will be confused as it becomes relevant near the start of that game.
>>
>>747500060
I also always wonder what happened with the pacing of this game towards the end. It's like they couldn't agree on a good stopping point for it. I still ended up enjoying the actual for real final dungeon and boss though. It felt like a good book end for the original Class VII.
>>
>>747500913
It's awkward to stop a game when you're so close to finishing it.
>>
>>747503256
I installed a mod to get the books on my first playthrough, so I saw it.
>>
trails of subhumans
>>
>>747500913
When you play through what feels like the obvious ending of the game only to be met with more stuff after the obvious end of the game, it's hard to stop because the game could surely end at any point now. This kinda thing is why Yakuza games started telling people to set aside a good amount of time as they go into the ending bits of the game.
>>
>>747500060
Yeah no CS2 was torture.
CS4 is an even worse game but at least there's no fake post-game shit.
The thing I hate the most in CS2 is how fucking forced everyone leaving Thors at the same time is despite a bunch of them not having good reasons, they really really want you to feel bad for Rean despite him being constantly surrounded by friends who suck his cock and everyone loving him, it's pathetic.

Not a bad game, per se, but the story and pacing were just dogshit. Definitely kicked the series down a few pegs for me.
>>
>>747501869
She looks hot as fuck in the third game with those stockings.
>>
>>747505161
I hope when they do the inevitable remake they fix it.
>>
I dropped the series after CS4. Should I try playing the newer ones or is it all downhill from there?
>>
>>747500060
I liked the high school sections of CS1 so CS2's "return to normalcy" final act was welcome.
>>
>>747506126
Hmm, I'd wait honestly. There's no sense in trying to catch up right now when the latest game in the series currently leaves off on a gigantic cliffhanger. Maybe play Reverie and see if you fuck with that. It's meant to be the epilogue to Erebonia and setup for Calvard, but it's still a good enough stopping point if you end up wanting to hold off or not continue if you didn't like it.

>>747500060
Now you need to watch the northern war anime before part 3.
>>
>>747505403
Fuck I saw a fantastic pic of Towa's ass in that skirt earlier and I can't find it anymore

>>747506126
Reverie is much better and I like Calvard for the most part. Up to you whether you're craving more or don't feel drawn to the series anymore.
>>
>>747506617
No the fuck you do not.
>>
>>747506617
The what
>>
>>747506673
I liked Reverie but the Elysium sections absolutely destroyed the pacing. They really want you to grind those dungeons over and over.
>>
>>747506816
The anime about the war in North Ambria that happened in between the 2d and 3d game. It's not that relevant to the plot but it does get mentioned in rerards to Rean's backstory as he played a major role there.
>>
>>747506816
The one based on the gacha game.
>>
>>747506318
>>747506673
Does Reverie have twists as stupid as the curse? That is pretty much what killed my interest and got me to finish CS only out of spite.

It is hard to make something on the level of a twist that retroactively degrades the quality of all the previous games in the series like the curse in CS3/CS4
That said, it does have its own set of stupid shit

Also I wish we could romance Aurelia, she's so fucking hot.
>>
>>747508130
Granted they do start to actually kill people in Daybreak, blood and everything, but it does feel like they are over compensating a lot at times.
>>
I just finished cold steel 3 and it was probably one of the longest if not the longest dialogue driven games I've ever played. Is 4 worse?
>>
>>747508315
>it's the curse that makes them do it!
Always love how curse haters expose themselves as stupid every time. Human malice created the curse. Not the other way around. You dumb fucks probably haven't even played the game. Shitposting troon.

Considering how faithful the Sky FC remake was, I doubt it. Now, faithfulness worked in that remake's favor because Sky FC is actually a good game with a very solid premise. CS1 and CS2 are far less so and would need tons of rewrites and other adjustments to actually be good.
>>
>>747508130
>>747508154
>>747508540
More named characters die in CS4 than in literally any other game in the entire series.
>>
>>747508584
>Human malice created the curse
But it's still the curse that made them do certain decisions that they wouldn't have made otherwise, or made some people fucking immortal.
>>
>>747508993
The game quite literally with zero room for misinterpretation says that the curse doesn't make anyone do anything. It doesn't "create" it amplifies. So it does not make anyone do anything they weren't already willing to do in the first place. You would know this if you had actually played the game and didn't just want to shitpost like a contrarian loser.
>>
>>747508584
The curse making some people randomly genocidal really fucking undermines a lot of the nuance in the world building. Like Joshua's backstory went from a tragic tale of a village being wiped out to start a war to just a side effect of the evil magic fart cloud brainwashing some nobles in to doing it. He deserved better than that.

Are you forgetting the part where the curse makes Ash suddenly pull the trigger to kill the emperor? And then they let Ash go free because they decide the curse was at fault?
>>
>>747509362
The curse is a contrived justification for the game having a JRPG final boss for it's political conflict. Is it contrived and lazy? Sure but saying it undermines the plot of the previous games is outright shitposting.

>>747509406
MORE ON THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED
He said he wanted to do it himself and feel free to point out at any point where they say they forgive him cause the curse made him do it. Go on. I'll wait. Surely you can point out at any point where the game says this.
>>
>>747509362
>bad plot device that cheapens the story

>>
I've been away from /v/ for a while.
It's somehow comforting to see that threads about this series are still just as much of a confusing clusterfuck as ever.
>>
>>747509601
>point out at any point where they say they forgive him cause the curse made him do it. Go on. I'll wait. Surely you can point out at any point where the game says this.
The game doesn't need to say it, it's implied by him not being in jail or executed for trying to kill the fucking emperor of a country.
>>
>>747509165
Are you going to ignore the part where the curse just gives people canon plot armor?

>>
>>747509963
Why isn't she showing off her belly button?
>>
>>747509923
You mean like Crow? Also I'll point out that they also explicitly say the curse was weaker before and the only reason it has a more severe impact as of CS4 is because it is strengthened and even in CS4 it doesn't directly mind control anyone into doing anything they don't want to do. So even if you want to use CS4's events as a measuring stick which still contradict the argument even then it wouldn't apply to Sky and Crossbell which take place in a time when the curse had much less influence.
>>
>>747509658
Played it, that game has the most insane bullshit I've ever seen in a serious JRPG. I honestly kinda enjoyed it and wondering what crazy bullshit is gonna happen next.

I think the curse is awesome. The real problem is that Ishmelga itself is a wet fart of a character.
>>
>>747500060
cold steel II is kino and I refuse to believe otherwise
>>
>>747510679
yes this is the actual issue. Ishmelga is super boring compared to how cool an antagonist Osborne was.
>>
>>747508847
Yeah it's pretty telling everyone rags on Cold Steel for this but ignores when Crossbell gets sacked in Azure with zero casualties and instantly rebuilt buildings.

>>747510853
/v/ has always had a pretty staggering double standards when it comes to Cold Steel. I heard about the hate for CS for years before I actually played it and was surprised to find it's basically the exact same shit I was already playing. I'd say the writing is worse in terms of the overall plot but I give Cold Steel the benefit of the doubt since it has to juggle 3 separate arc's plots when the previous 2 arcs were more self contained.

>>
>>747510853
Main difference is the events of Azure involve terrorists burning a single city, while the events in Cold Steel involve an entire country-wide civil war. Azure having Crossbell get burned without any deaths is dumb, but a whole civil war with practically no deaths is magnitudes more retarded
>>
>>747512560
Peopl do die in the civil war though. It's just that the main cast prevent it cause they're good boys and always prevent it but in the other side of the war it's still just an actual war. Also saying it doesn't count because Crossbell is relatively smaller is incredibly hypocritical.
>>
>>747515131
>Peopl do die in the civil war though
May I see those deaths?
You travel across half the country and only see one guy die.
>Also saying it doesn't count because Crossbell is relatively smaller is incredibly hypocritical.
How is it hypocritical? A one-day conflict in a single city where the intention was to just destroy property rather than kill off everyone would obviously have less deaths than a civil war that lasts 2 months with the whole point being for each side to kill as many as the opposing side as possible
>>
>>747515675
The deaths are on the other front, the game tells you this. Saying "they don't count cause they didn't literally die on screen" is just dishonest troon deflection tactics. You're not a dishonest troon are you anon?
>>
File: altina.png (108 KB, 216x242)

>>747515845
I just think it's bad writing to hype up a war in the previous games only to have the entire thing off-screened. The writers going out of their way to avoid showing death during a war just makes the entire thing feel lame and trivial.
>>
>>747516616
That's the second time you've made an incredibly strong scathing criticism, been called out for being dishonest and then instantly backpedalling to make it sound less harsh than you initially worded it.>>747509362
>>
>>747512560
A city burning down and INSTANTLY being rebuilt with no timeskip or anything else is just as retarded.
>>
>>747516749
That wasn't me thoughbeit
>>
>>747516616
I hope when they do the remake they make the game darker and actually show the devastation caused by the war. They're not shying away from showing deaths in the new games.
>>
>>747500060
wtf, are you literally me from like two month ago? I was already perturbed by the surprise geofront labyrinth, even if it was great to listen to the zero ost again, but having to deal with something that could've only had gotten the idea from 3rd at the very end was mortifying by far (even if the dungeon wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be). I was already well into the night when the "ending" happened, but I was forced to tap out after the geofront dungeon, and had to finish it later. The sheer length of the epilogue alone actually docked cs2 to the bottom spot (thus far) lol
Also kino of them to lock away the cutscene involving thomas' real identity behind both new game plus and a collection fest. There must've been some real confused niggas that got taken aback when they got to cs3
>>
>>747507414
Genuinely there is nothing else in the series half as pants on head retarded as the curse. Even when there's silly stuff later at least it's not crucial to the plot and doesn't ruin past games. They'll have to try really hard to ever top the curse in how fucking bad of an idea it was.
>>
>>747520106
Oh man wait until you see Daybreak 2.
>>
>>747520969
I've played Daybreak 2, there's really dumb stuff in it but nothing half as bad or with as far of an impact as the curse. Like it's not even in the fucking same realm of stupidity.
>>
>>747520106
The final game will have some series-spanning twist that will somehow be even more retarded
I believe in Kondo
>>
>>747500913
you clearly haven't played the Trails games before. They're notorious for having final acts so awesome you don't want to stop playing until you finish them.

Happens with most of the games in the series actually, and it's awesome each time
>>
>>747506816
don't listen to that anon, I suffered through that anime and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. And I LOVE the Trails series
>>
>>747506126
I'd definitely play Trails into Reverie (it's the game after CS4). Basically puts a neat little bow on the entire series up to that point, similar to how Trails the 3rd does, but a lot better executed. Absolutely phenomenal game and if you choose to stop playing there you get 99% of all your questions answered
>>
>>747511831
most of them haven't even played the crossbell games or even the sky games. maybe the FC remake
