Spooky season soon /v/ what spooky vidya are you gonna play?
>>
About Fishing, hopefully
>>
I was gonna replay alien isolation given I now have a fancy oled screen and renodx for the game is likely really good buuuuut there is that hellraiser game coming out soonish iirc and that might be the way to go. If I am feeling particularly brave I might finally have a crack at silent hill 4.
>>

I want to play some RE games but I think dragons dogma 2 will be taking most of my time.
There is also the new hellraiser game I want to play but wont play it until after DD2 DLC

I'm actually playing the SH2 remake right now. It's good. But I can only play in short bursts because the audio design and atmosphere are both really good at stressing me the fuck out. It's a very oppressive game.

F.E.A.R, DOOM 3, Alan Wake and Amnesia The Dark Descent. Amnesia especially feels very comfy, i don't know why. Maybe its the old castle in the forest, the soundtrack and the spooky ambience.
>>
>>747503610
Nigger Hill and Hellraiser, probably. I might replay SH2R and the Ethan RE games as well. I played each Team Silent game like five times last year so I might be burned out on those. That said, playing them so much has made SH3 jump higher in my ranking of the series, so I might just replay it again this year.

Oh, and Tormented Souls 2 and Amnesia: The Bunker. I forgot I bought those recently. I also need to do a few more endings for Fatal Frame 2 Remake but I don't want to lel

I plan on playing this for the fourth time and the Banjo-Kazooie hack based on the Blair Witch Project. I will probably play more, but I don't really know what right now. Nah FNAF in general is pretty overrated imo, the gameplay loop of the originals gets old and that one in particular is the most arcade-y of the them. Pretty much plays like an inferior Alien Isolation which is also not great by itself.

Even immersive Sims like Bioshock or STALKER have better horror elements

Yes, as its harder to enjoy older games after newer games. Story wise it does not matter in the slightest. 1 explains a bit more why to 2 if you are a super autist but 99% wont care. Only important part is 1 before 3.
If you can only play one go with 2.

Playing Alan Wake 2 now.
>play 1 for the first time
>enjoy it enough, but felt combat becomes tedious and got real sick of enemies spawning behinds you
>thought american nightmare improved the combat but liked the setting and story of 1 more

Honestly, I liked 1 more right now. Feel most of my time is just walking around and not much really happening.
Not really feeling this game and haven't touched it for a few days, which is frustrating me because I want it to suddenly click. Does it ever pick up? I'm at Coffee World right now.

Is it either of your's first time playing Doom 3? If so I strongly recommend that you play the vanilla version and not the BFG Edition that let's you use the flashlight while wielding a weapon. Enjoy the tension of having to put away your weapons to see in the dark. There's source ports that improve the graphics a little too.
>>
>>747533217
I liked the idea of Duskers much better than the execution.
It felt like you'd seen everything after playing for 2 hours. But it was a good concept and had a nice atmosphere. Hopefully the sequel will have more content.

I played SH2 near enough on release 25 years ago and only beat SH1 for the first time a few days ago. If you genuinely enjoy the genre then I really doubt it'll affect your experience, particularly as there's very little that changes between the two games in terms of gameplay. I'd still suggest playing 1 before 2 if only because of chronology. And you absolutely should play 1 before 3 since those two are the only games in the series that are directly connected and 3 contains spoilers for the entire plot of 1.

The first three SH games are most scariest games I have ever played. There were points in my play through were I just wanted to put down the remote and watch someone else do a complete walkthrough. I find 3 more scarier than 2 especially the Nightmare Hospital.

Unless you have an IQ of 110+ I doubt anybody finished Silent Hill 1 without looking up a guide. The piano puzzle was the hardest and I found the blood on the piano keys to be the biggest red herring ever.

I got the good ending in SH1 by accidentally using the bottle while I was near the cop lady.
>>
>>747541593
DSP figured out the piano puzzle in 3 minutes

>>747541391
I appreciate the monsters and think the series reached its pinnacle in design in SH1. I generally love how you must time your power attack with your melee weapons to hit the dogs at the right moment when their in mid air. If your skillful enough you can even kill the flyers while they're attempting to swoop you.

SH1 had the coolest melee weapons, even though SH3 had a medieval morning star and a katana. I still think the battle axe and fireman's pick were more awesome.

Same. I found 1 much comfier. I just loved the secret motel.
2 was more character driven which was ok. Music was the best.
2 Remake was all about the bosses. Rape couch is a top 5 for me.
3 I loved the haunted house but found it too short.
4 I think back to fondly but hated at the time. Despise enemies you cant kill in games.
Loved Shattered memories, ending was perfect.
And Im the one Anon who loved Downpour, way ahead of its time as an open world horror game.

>>747541754
The pick/hammer in SH1 was actually an over-powered failsafe weapon they decided to put in the game last minute. Which is why it is barely slower, if slower at all, than the pipe while dealing a huge amount more damage than it.
You're right though 1 is the best one right next to 4

Yeah I was definitely over analyzing it. My thinking was because there were something like 10 keys the number of possible combinations must be in the thousands therefore the developers put the blood stains to hint at which keys were first pressed and if you looked at the amount of blood and drips on the keyboard it was a possible hint. I played lots of puzzle game in the 90s like Myst so I am just used to incredibly over complicated puzzles that take days to figure out. I already knew that the black keys represented a crow and raven and the white keys swan, dove and pelican AND that there were 5 soundless keys and the title of the poem was the voiceless. My brain couldn't put all that together. Brainmogged by DSP damn. It's miracle I can figure out the captchas.

The pterodactyls even have a special death state if you beat them to death with a melee weapon. They flap around uselessly with a broken neck for a few seconds and die on their own if you don't finish them off.

>>747542148
I find it strange how everyone in the game calls the protagonist a kidder. It's like the developers knew the guy they got to play the protagonist was a pedo, makes me think their pedos as well and it's how they met.

The city and orphange was awesome, and as a reader of philosophy I loved the prison. Hospital was ok though by this time over done. Best of the 4 but I didnt need a 4th visit.
The subway was inexcusable ass. Boring, repetitive, unfun ass. I dont blame anyone for getting filtered.

>variety of ghosts to pin based on preference
>hospital rooms are randomized every time
>Eileen
also 4's subway is better than 3's at least

Thats cool, didnt know that. My buddies got a giant Eileen head that filtered them while I didn't remember that. Must be why.
Once I got the axe in the orphanage it came alive for me. 100% agree on the combat, the axe was the most fun Ive had outside beating nurses with a pipe in 2. Apartment and the haunted doll was cool.
It had some of the highest highs, but also lowest lows.

The DS version is supposedly pretty fucking close to the original. The N3DS can also emulate most PS1 games, including Resident Evil. But I figured it'd be better to play the version that was made for the DS family. The GBC version honestly doesn't look that bad all things considered. Pretty cool.

I did enjoy the melee options in SH1 and the monsters are actually very effective in hounding you, especially when they put the fast-moving ones in the town overworld to really give chase. But the actual monster designs are kind of lame. Not Downpour levels of lame, but they're still not very scary. The possessed medical staff and monster children are fine, but Reptile from Mortal Kombat the movie is mostly just irritating and the gibbon thing is kind of goofy. And I know the pterodactyls are an overt reference to the ones described in Stephen King's The Mist, from which the series at large draws much influence, but it's still a very unintimidating enemy type.

>>

It isn't really a level timer, it'd only be a timer if you completely ran out of monsters to kill and at that point you should've cleaned out the level for items and made it to the end anyway.

>cronos the new dawn
>dead space remake
>the thing remastered
>alien isolation
>>
>>747511337
These RE and SH games should have always been OTS. The tech was there regardless of what these devs say. Don't let them fool or gaslight you into thinking that there were not PS1 and PS2 games back in the day that had third person behind the back camera systems. You had games like Tomb Raider, Syphon Filter, Max Payne just to name a few. This was absolutely doable for survival horror games. Including RE and SH. They just chose tank controls with the crazy cameras because it was the trend for survival horror back in those days. But now they lie and manipulate pretending like it was due to hardware restrictions exclusively and that they always wanted to do third person cameras. A bunch of liars.

>>
I think alien isolation is one of the best horror games ever made. While the game is too long for its own good the pacing of the content hits the perfect balance to maintain that unease and tension that keeps a player on edge before giving a point of release in the section where the ayy lmao isn't about.

Hard disagree on Cronus. I thought they really nailed the resource economy and difficulty. I always felt just on the edge of survival. Cool art direction and setting too though some areas were just dark fleshy hallways which got a little stale.
>>
>>747570197
>I always felt just on the edge of survival
problem is after your second "walk into an open space that can't leave until everyone is dead" combat encounter it becomes painfully obvious how gamey the resource system is. To wit if you have (say) 3 rounds left in your pistol you are better off using them before opening any resource crates as you'll get more ammo back than just having those 3 rounds and opening the same crate.

Once you spot that you will easily end up with silly amounts of ammo for what they were clearly aiming for because the game is designed never to get you in a position where you have no ammo. Really takes the edge off the survival when they are massively curbing down failure states.

Not seeing a lot of discussion of Routine here . Understandable due to it being in development hell for years resulting in cutting tons of content and story reworks. I wish they would release the earlier builds.
However it had its moments. Sound design and aesthetics are good and the maintenance droids were menacing and the entity ayy lmao thing in latter part of the game was fucking intense, I don't remember being that anxious for a while.
