>137-year old company>Still making some of the best games out there>No layoffs>No studio closures>No debt>Still the most beloved gaming company>Has the fastest selling console of all time>Even after going through rough times like the Wii U or Gamecube era, they're still going strongWhat's Nintendo's secret?
>>747508259>>Still making some of the best games out thereName one
They got talent, which not many developers do nowadays, and Nintendo's entire philosophy is retaining it no matter what.Iwata has this famous quote: "Layoffs may offer better short-term financial results, but employees who fear that they may be laid off will never produce the same results".When he died over 4000 employees attended his funeral. He is a legend. You don't see this type of person in Sony or Microsoft because they don't retain talent.
What was Mario like 137 years ago?
>>747508706He was an aristocrat developing western plumbing systems
>>747508259you can see the same design patterns and overused tropes in all their games though
>>747508259That Link design is the one they should have stuck with.

>>747508259GameCube was probably their best era in my opinion. It gave us Resident Evil 4 which playing for the first time is a memory I'll never forget. It was the last time Nintendo tried to do something new and different with their franchises (Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Double Dash, etc) while having hardware on par with the competition and 3rd party support beyond barebones ports. It gave us Melee. Ever since the Wii they've been skimping on hardware costs by staying a generation behind and they generally treat their franchises safely without ever noticeably changing the gameplay. It's a great strategy for business and brand longevity, but keeps Nintendo in the "children's toy" niche that it's in. They make safe games that parents know they can let their kids enjoy, but not necessarily the games that parents themselves want to play.

>>747512328What? Galaxy changed how the levels look and gave you the option to flail the remote around instead of using the pro controller. It didn't fundamentally change anything and the game wasn't focussed around collecting starbits.
>>747508532name your 5 favorite games right now faggot
>>747510446Pretty much this. They co-own the largest media franchise in the world and they have milking it down to a science. They'd be dead in the water without it.
>>747508259They produce nothing but slop and are too gutless to fire the uncreative hacks ruining their games.

>>747508259All the companies got together and agreed to stop competing and all make the same slop. Nintendo said no, everyone else said yes.

>>747508259>>No layoffsTo be fair, the English language gayming press doesn't report... anything about Nintendo's layoffs, this is done quietly in Japan. They may well have had them. The biggest problem Nintendo has is the fact that Switch 2 is backwards compatible with Switch 1, this leads to the development of PS5 Syndrome, where the new system is only marginally better, so people stick with the old one, so the games developers stick to making games for the old console, because they want to sell to the biggest pool of users. It wasn't a big deal 25+ years ago because each new generation was absolutely light years ahead of the last. But since Gen 7 things have barely improved.

>>747508706A poor sulfur miner in Sicily.
>>747517146Worst 3d Mario is Land and worst 3d Zelda's are totk and oot 3d. Double Dash was great, Metroid Prime was great. Regardless it's not about your opinion of the games, the point is that they stopped trying to be creative after the GameCube and it worked for them. The fact that you even use a word like "cubesnoy" tells me you yourself have some sort of mental illness.

Nintendo's latest direct was filled with multiple Switch 2 exclusive ports and Switch 2 exclusive first party software. They've been massively better about this than Sony.
>>747512236>They make safe gamesThey experiment more than everyone else these days somehow. Breath of the Wild flipped the script on the old OOT style Zelda they'd been making for 20 years and Splatoon was a new concept when it arrived. Compare that to the endless Insomniac Marvelslop and live services being pumped out of PlayStation and Xbox's repetitive Halo/Gears masturbation. It's gotten stale and frankly Nintendo look like they have the most varied catalogue these days. >but keeps Nintendo in the "children's toy" niche that it's in.They've been working their way out of it. The GameCube had mature exclusives like Eternal Darkness and Twin Snakes and while they tried to court third parties into supporting the console during that era, it was ultimately undone by the Wii. Since then, they've distanced themselves from the Wii and the Wii U, and the Switch 2 is getting tons of third party support lately.
