prime 4 has me apprehensive about this. the game trailer looks genuinely great, but we still don't know much. i really hope there isn't too much cinematic stuff and they took everything that made dread good and used that to make ravenous great along with taking community feedback.
i have more faith that it will be a good game, but i just dont want to be disappointed again
>>
they already addressed the music critique

the music definitely did sound better in the trailer than in the dread games, that's true. new ideas can always be worrisome in established franchises since ive seen this pattern too many times
>studio takes control of piece of media
>not expected to do well
>gets good reception
>money grubbers rub their hands and force mass marketable ideas into it
>game is ruined
i love when people try new ideas, but not when those ideas are meant to drive engagement and sales rather than game quality.
for instance, samus with no arm cannon actually has me a bit worried

The prime games and the "main" Metroid games are made by different teams. However, everything in the trailer screams they're going to focus more on the cinematics and QTEs of Dread. As well as the thing I dreaded the most. Making Samus' Metroid properties the focus of the game. Making the ending to Dread pointless.

Hopefully they at least make it less backtracking and don't force you to wait until the end of the game to get 50% of the items. Like every game since Samus Returns has.
>>

I didn't mind the QTEs in dread. On repeat playthroughs, what I actually minded was that once you learn how emmis function the sections become less fun and the way in which you need to go through the section and kill the aurora unit and then kill the emmi was too repetitive. I hope dread has less of that and the QTE/cinematics are not increased.

Metroid Prime 4 was a better game than Dread. Dread had a better story. Ravenous will be fine if it’s Samus Returns 3DS level of kino but much more faster pace. Ah and bring back fanservice. Fuck Dread Samus didn’t even remove her helmet nor armor when you clear the game in the total time screen. Prime 4 at least had her remove her helmet in the 100% ending.

This is literally Metroid Dread 2. If you liked dread, you will like this.

DESU that part of the ending was always a cop out. Samus already accepted that the Metroid gene was a part of her and used it to her advantage.
>>

Even in the first playthrough the EMMIs are basically just there to block your progress. Both in time and exploring locations. In repeat playings it just becomes annoying because you're trying to beat the game in the time limit. But even worse than the EMMIs is over half the upgrades are blocked off until you get to basically the final area of the game. And you have to constantly go through half the world and teleporters just to get somewhere.

Dread has the best movement and combat in the series by far. But it's ruined by terrible level design.
>>
>>747511270
Your reaching levels of contrarianism thought not possible. Even Metroid Pinball's more highly rated than Prime 4.
>>
>>747508617
Nintendo is slow to course correct, and Ravenous was being developed alongside Prime 4. I don't think there's a zero percent chance that ninty had some mandates which could be for the worse, i.e. voice acting if Prime 4 was anything to go by.
>>
>>747508851
the real issue they need to tackle is the world map not being open-ended enough. Dread just felt like a less handholdy Fusion
>>
>>747511594
>Samus already accepted that the Metroid gene was a part of her and used it to her advantage.
She didn't know it was happening until 3/4 into the story of Dread. And then when it did, she kept trying to fight it when it appeared. Plus in earlier games she was trying to fight it. It was basically three whole games of her trying to find ways to subdue the metroid DNA. And they make it seem like at the end of Fusion and Dread it has been surpressed for good because of some external force. But of course, the developers always find a way to bring it back.

Of course "it's just a game who cares about the plot." And I'd be fine with that...except every game since Fusion has been trying to make the plot and cinematics more of the focus. So either keep consistent with the plot or go back to the earlier Metroid games where there's just a 2 minute blurb at the start and nothing else.

Doom 2016 looking good
Samus entering rip and tear era
>>
why is this still $70? wtf.
>>
>>747511270
Don't like how they are turning Sammy into a monster. "The monster hunter becomes the monster" Rote as fuck.
>>
>>747512751
It could be done well. But so far they're not. They're going for the teenage manchild audience.
>>
>>747512751
What other games have done this?
im ngl im a sucker for monsters who think they are scary being scared shitless of who they're chasing and they end up experiencing that human emotion of fear, hopeless, etc. for the first time
>>
>>747512057
Anon you are retarded. The whole point of Quiet Robe's X is to gice Samus enough Tohra DNA that she can better control her Metroid powers/DNA, rather than be over whelmed and controlled by it.
There's no conflict or ret-canoning going on. Metroid 6 was ALWAYS going to be aboutSamus better utilizing and honing her Metroid powers, its why the ending is done the way it is.
FFS this was the most common fan theory on where the plot would go within these threads.

Chill out.

Ah yes, the sole determining factor of a quality game. Forget Dread being an infinitely better in all aspects.

Even Samus speaking a single line in Dread was far cooler than her removing her helmet in Prime 4.

i'm askin why it's not $10 cheaper like all the other physical games brother
>>
i dont like the DMC-tier character action and epic hype parry moments it's moving towards while also simulatneously being some sickdark shit that people keep thinking fusion/dread were
i dont like that it's doubling down with dread's shoehorning chozos in
the trailer being dumped in the middle of the direct as something not that noteworthy while capping the same direct with showing the same persona trailers we already seen + kirby of the wilds 2 doesnt bode well, when dread and prime 4 had a much much heavier focus put on their trailers

i dont wanna spend $600 to play it but i guess i have to

>a teaser for a game 3 years out benefits nobody
I'm someone who predicted it. Still doesn't mean I wanted it to go in that direction.

I also spent years writing up an idea of where Metroid could go after Fusion. And like 75% of my idea was used in Dread. Including Samus being lured to an isolated planet to try and take her DNA to revive the Metroids and focusing more on the Chozo. But while I was glad to see those predictions come true, I had hoped a future game would do something different from the most obvious.

But clearly they show in the trailer for the next game she's losing control like she did in Dread... She'll probably be able to control it as time goes on. But there's scenes where she starts fighting the urge again.

But that's not even the big problem. The problem with having this power is, as we see in Dread and the premise of this whole game seems to be, it's going to become a deus ex machina device. Anytime Samus is about to die, just pull the Metroid hack and she can get out of it. But only in QTE cutscenes. So the player has no agency. You died 4 times on that last boss to regular attacks. Then you finally beat it..only to see a cutscene where Samus gets stabbed, then uses a one-hit kill Metroid powers to get out of it. So...why didn't she just use the Metroid power at the start and skip hitting it with 150 missiles?
