>13 years of developmentis it playable now?
>>747509378nope. they added huge amounts of sideslop and turned it into Minecraft. but the core lack of gameplay is still there
This game has been worth playing for several years now. It is still not what people expected it to be, and it suffers from the classic "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle" problem, but the experience is still very unique, and engaging with all the mechanics it has is fun at least for the first few times.
>>747509378No its just live service slop now
It became a game about collecting base decorations
noit's still just a chore simulator
>>747509378its fun in VR for 10 hours, then you're done.
It is the definition of a 7/10 gameSome people like it, and some don't, but it isn't forgettable like regular slop.
I liked it a year or two ago when I played but why the fuck are all the expeditions so short and time gatey? The one that was out when I got to endgame was Liquidators. Who wants to play for 3 days and fuck off for months? The main game still had some holes like water planets being utterly worthless and as such the submersible being worthless too. I wanted subnautica and there was basically nothing in the water.
>>747509535why cant any dev fix their damn camera after making gorillon dollars and have 10 years to update?
>>747509378No, it's the same game as it released 10 years ago but now you have more chores to do and more bars to fill.
>>747510656?it's the unreal engine third person template project camerahow are devs supposed to fix that???
>>747509378Eh, as long as you treat is as one of those generic "open world survival craft" games where you just put on some music/podcast/audiobook and just do some menial tasks for a bit so you can craft or buy the next thing. That is to say, playable but not amazing. It's still an "endless procedural universe" that has the same universe-wide enemies (Sentinels), same tiny handful of alien races and pallet-swapped space stations and outposts. Play it for a handful of hours and chances are you've seen most of what's available already. The autismo-level bases some people make are cool, but I have no interest in dumping dozens of hours into mindlessly gathering resources to build shit.>inb4 there's some factory-level automated mining factory shit you can build or something after I grind for a few dozen more hours
>>747509378some people will whine and cry that it doesn't yellow paint them into fun situations, but it offers a lot of game experiences not many other games do. you won't find many alternatives that do space as well as no man's sky does, especially with the newer updates adding things to do while spacewalking outside of your ship, or while exploring space, ect. It's probably the single best game when it comes to true exploration, which isn't something everyone wants, but if you want it this has so many amazing sights to see. The combat, base building, quests, story, and all the other bits around the exploration are fine at worst, and over time the game has become a behemoth with hundreds of hours of content that isn't just exploring, depending on what you want out of it.
>>747509637>aquajeetranny>shit opinionevery time
It’s still just shooting lasers at rocks
>>747513268Kill yourself retarded shill
>>747513481>join thread for game>whine like a child that anyone discussing the game is a shillI'm sorry your parents didn't love you, but you don't need to lash out like this. Your emotional tantrum just isn't a replacement for an argument.
I hate how they lock so much content behind those FOMO expeditions.Thankfully I can just use a save-editor to access them, but it would be nice if they allowed players to replay any previous expedition when they feel like it, not have to wait for whenever Hello Games feels like replaying them.
>>747513268They need to focus, too many shit that doesn't matter.>settlements? forgotten>exocrafts? forgotten>ships? forgotten>cosmos? will be forgottenAnd they keeping putting new mechanics that doesn't blend with the core game and never are used again.
>>747513607the main point of the expeditions is doing them with other people, which is gonna be a nightmare if everyone is doing different expeditions
Idk I played kenshi for hundreds of hours and never felt bored I play this and just feel like I'm playing a tech demo, I don't really care for liar developers just because enough time has passed, they lied about this game.
>>747509637notice how this pajeet is always the second reply in any thread
>>747513556>>whine like a child that anyone discussing the game is a shillAll the other posters are fine because they are discussing the game, it's only your post that's lying about "hundreds of hours of content" or "best exploration game"I'm sorry you are a retarded shill and can't spot the difference, but you should kill yourself regardless
>>747513702For some of them, sure, but Hello Games could tweak some of the milestones to remedy that. That said, I'm pretty sure you can complete the expeditions offline.
>>747513680The focus of the game is doing whatever you want. Not every game needs to be a specific list of things you must do. >settlements?Had a major update that connected them to other systems earlier this year.>exocraftsCompletely usable and get updates constantly.>shipsLiterally every single update adds stuff for ships. The newest one added stuff like leaving any ship in space to spacewalk, and new ship parts with new mechanics like sucking up space junk you throw near your ship while spacewalking.>cosmosIt's content around space, the centerpiece of the game, so it's going to be relevant forever.>And they keeping putting new mechanics that doesn't blend with the core gameThat's just blatantly untrue. When they add a new minor mechanic like Fishing, it always blends with the core game. It makes the ocean type and planet type of any planet with water matter. It ties into the already existing Cooking system to make better buffs than was possible before. It gave them reasons to add in features like the ability to land ships on water. It rewards you with new items and cosmetics to use while doing anything else in the game. Fishing is also a high-tier method to obtain both nanites and credits, the 2 biggest currencies in the entire game, which makes it tie into every system because now you can buy a new ship by fishing if you feel like it.
>>747513680>>settlements? forgottenSettlements actually had an entire update dedicated to them, but the only thing it did was add robot settlements with new building models and allow you to have 4 of them, all the other changes were minor and didn't fix the basic issue with them being a glorified idle game that's just watching timers count downI don't think it's forgotten as much as the devs having no idea what to do with them. That's really the main problem with the game, the devs just seem like massive retards that can only think of shallow mechanics and no deeper than that, so nothing gets improved. I don't think it's an issue with dev time or attention span, I truly think it's just lack of creativity and youi can't fix that
>>747513829I'm sorry you're mentally stunted and can't figure out how to play a game without yellow paint, but your tantrum doesn't erase the fact that literal millions of people have gotten huge playtime counts in the game.
>>747514364I'm sorry you're retarded and can't stop lying like in >>747514245, but your unpaid shilling doesn't erase the fact the game is still shit and you should kill yourself
>>747509813This is a literal lie
>>747514585What the fuck do you think expeditions are tard?
reminder that sean murray tweeted THE DAY BEFORE LAUNCH that the game was multiplayer. he was not some misunderstood awkward dev who was misquoted by the press about indev features years out from launch. he was a liar and a scammer, and his game deserved to fail. fuck him for his grift and fuck the gaming community for letting him get away with it
>>747509378It's very good if you are at least somewhat intelligent and can create your own goals and fun. My tip is:>get to the anomaly in main quest>ignore main quest and just fuck around for a bit before going back to main quest
>>747509378it's still severely mediocreit's just got a lot of mediocre stuff to do now

>>747514952That doesn't refute them being live service you braindead nigger
>Land on completely barren planet/moon>Oxygen flowers everywhere so you can't dieHow would you fix this?
>>747514287>the basic issue with them being a glorified idle gameWhat's the issue with that? There are a hundred other activities for more active gameplay, there is no actual reason why 1 mechanic can't be a glorified idle game. It lets you design and upgrade little towns while giving you resources for the rest of the game, letting you spend resources found in the rest of the game on upgrades, and letting you larp as a space mayor. There's no problem with it.>that's just watching timers count downIt sounds like you just don't understand what an idle game even is. You don't sit there and watch the timer, you stop by your settlement between other tasks. There's a teleporter in your settlement office so it's an extremely easy activity to just stop in to collect your resources and start new upgrades in like 30 seconds in between any 2 bigger things you do.>I don't think it's forgotten as much as the devs having no idea what to do with them.Ok so you just genuinely don't get what idle games are, yeah. They already did what they wanted to do. It's a fully functional little idle game system within a much bigger game.

>>747514446Your public tantrum doesn't erase that fuckloads of people love it and play it every single day, not just on steam but consoles too. It must suck being so joyless that you genuinely spend your time insisting nobody else could possibly have fun when you can't.
settlements fucking SUCKyou have all these populated stations and giant fleets and outposts on every single planet but where do they live?????? in fucking villages smaller than skyrim towns? where are the cities? don't try me with this sentinels bullshit, it's just an excuse. without big cities this game will NEVER be complete
>>747514797>for letting him get away with itThey fucked up and then spent literal years fixing it. We just hit a full decade of 100% free major content updates, 43 of them now. They "got away" with turning a pile of shit into one of the greatest games in the genre, so yeah people are willing to play it.Do you seriously think it would be better if when devs fucked up, they abandoned the project and it never got redeemed?
>>747514998>Me stupid me say words i don't understandYou tried to look smart, but you failed. Give it up its obvious you don't know what you're talking about.Games not a live service, simple as.
>>747515046>What's the issue with the mechanic being shit? The fact it's shit, I want a video game not an idler>let's' you designNo it doesn't, whatever option you didn't pick just shows up later. You can't even rotate the buildings, let alone move or place them. You aren't designing shit>giving you resources for the rest of the gameAt a pace so glacial it takes longer to teleport to your settlements and collect them than just getting them from anywhere else>letting you spend resources found in the rest of the game on upgradesWow so I have to pay even more for absolutely no payoff? What a deal>letting you larpI'd rather play a game than pretend I'm playing one>It sounds like you just don't understand what an idle game even isYou're just pedantic, but what you're really saying here is>you don't sit there and pretend to play the game, you actively don't play the game and only come back once a day to click a button>devs did what they wanted to doand what they wanted to do is shit and not even a video game. It is also extremely fucking shallow even for an idle game, something you didn't even try to refute at least
>>747514998Why would we need to refute something that is factually wrong? It's not live service because you can play it offline. You're seriously too much of an idiot to realize that?
>>747514998How exactly are they a live service? Its a one time multiplayer event that releases with every update to showcase said update. There's no barrier to entry, no paid battle pass, no paid anything. The devs push it out with the update and its done in a month or so. And all the cosmetics you get from it are free.
>>747515357>Do you seriously think it would be better if when devs fucked up, they abandoned the project and it never got redeemed?yes. if you release a scam you should go out of business (or to jail). Bro it is literally a nothing game. It's a great testament to game design. It doesn't matter how big the game is if the foundation isn't good.
>>747516469There are hundreds of things to do, it just doesn't have yellow paint forcing you to do them. Its the same sort of game as ultra long term progression MMOs or people who build gigantic projects in Minecraft in survival. But the actual time to do any of that is just beyond what I'm willing to put into any game. The time - reward ratio is just not in any way enough for me.I say that as someone who generally really enjoys survival games. I love grounded, subnautica, enshrouded, minecraft etc. NMS is just significantly grindier than all of those to achieve a similar objective, at least in the "early" game (sub 100 hours). Getting to the point where you can even make your own ship, do the big events, have the carrier fleet, and all the really neat stuff they show off is all very deep into the game. And to get there you have to spend your time lasering minerals and doing 50 hours of tutorials. Its just not for me.

You seriously have crippling autism if a collection log sidequest letting you know content exists instantly consumes your life and makes you unable to touch anything else in the game.
>>747518846It's always funny when someone's complaint about a game is "I'm not smart enough to understand what creative mode means"
>>747519110>just cheat and trivialize everything so you can skip 90% of the game bro
>>747519110If anything the game only forces you to fix your first ship and do the tutorial enough to get off your first planet. And even that is optional with creative mode.
>>747519110>>747519207>>747519303>just use cheats to skip the gameplay broAlways funny when shills resort to this line of thinking, why don't I just skip your entire game and play something better then?
>>747518790>you know you can adjust how much resources you get from mining and stuff, right?I actually didn't know that.I might give it another shot and crank the drops, see if that helps.Does it affect things like nanites? The last time I played, I spent most of my time doing the very, very long onboarding questline. This was some time early this year, when they announced custom ships. I gave up at some point where I had 3 aliens in my base, I was doing some sort of questline for them, realized I'd been in the same system shuffling the same 3 planets doing what amounted to radiant quests for them to unlock more systems. How long does that phase of the game last? Also, if you don't turn on what amounts to creative mode, how long would it reasonably take to build a custom ship, starting from a fresh save?
>>747519279>>747519369
>>747518772It's free content. The content stays in the game after the event is over. The event is held to get players together for the multiplayer aspects of it and to reignite interest for the old players by letting them know there's new content now. It's not some evil jew trick.
>>747509378>is it playable now? It's allright.Shame 90% of players use save editors or that app shit to get free glitched ships.
I'm going to play it in VR for the pokemon battles and mechs. After I'm done with Palworld. And possible the Dragons Dogma II DLC.How are the mods for this game? With so many systems I imagine there's a lot to work with right?
>>747519369>>747519402No he's right.Creative mode isn't a solution to the problem of slow progression. I play the game to feel like I'm progressing. Creative mode just skips the entire progression step. Which just makes the actual reward mean nothing and the gameplay just as boring.I don't just want the cool ship, I want to feel like I've invested in the cool ship. But I also have a real life, and don't want to invest 600 hours into getting it either. This isn't a black and white problem. Treating it as one is just being intentionally stupid.
>>747519563I mainly just use the PTSD mod since I think game is too easy otherwise and it creates a more proper progress scaling instead of just skipping to the equivalent of diamond tools an hour in because you already know what's OP.
Honestly Starfield is a way better space game in giving you planets to explore and quests to do if you're a single player focused, NMS's best appeal is how it's a multiplayer coop game now which is also the only space game around that has an active community outside of Starfield.
Is the expedition up yet? I need a break from Valheim.
>>747519563>How are the mods for this game?Constantly broken and abandoned from updates like any other live service game
>>747519471>Most players use save editors or apps to cheat to get what they want>players in this thread recommend skipping the resource grind entirely using the optionsThat's how you know the base gameplay is really shit and they never fixed it despite adding all the stuff on top
>>747519374>Does it affect things like nanites?I dunno. Probably. I honestly don't even worry about nanites since they're so easy to get. Just find a planet with no water and like 5 animals. Scan all of them and upload your discoveries for an easy 2k or so nanites.>I spent most of my time doing the very, very long onboarding questline.Oh, thats not the onboarding questline. Thats just the main quest. The tutorial ends once you fix your ship the first time.>How long does that phase of the game last? The base quests? Oh I haven't even touched them. Completely optional. You can get your base upgrades from finding salvaged data, which you can easily find at every single one of those burning machine things you can fix for nanites or a blueprint. They drop about 4 at a time though, so there is a little bit of a grind if you want to unlock every single base part. Settings probably fix that though.>how long would it reasonably take to build a custom ship, starting from a fresh save?A corvette? Well for a corvette that works but isn't pretty, about a half hour or less assuming you have the credits. Which you should have if you send out your frigates regularly and know how to use the economy scanner to your advantage. A custom star ship will take a little longer, because you will need to track down all the parts you want then build the ship.
>>747520045I don't recommend skipping the resource grind. I'm telling you that YOU SPECIFICALLY have the option to do that since you keep complaining about it. I'm quite satisfied with the gameplay loop in normal mode.
>>747520131>The tutorial ends once you fix your ship the first time. The game directly tells you to do all the base building stuff as well. And continues without break into the quests the aliens you invite to your base give you.>The base quests? Oh I haven't even touched them. Completely optional. They sure as hell don't portray them as optional. Since they keep being the thing that introduces new systems>Which you should have if you send out your frigates regularlyI was at around 15 hours and didn't have frigates. No hint they existed. I assumed they'd come as part of the main questline. So it seems like you're one of those players who has played continuously since release and has no idea what the new player experience is anymore. I see the same kind of player in Warframe. Its absolutely useless to ask you anything.
>>747520703>No hint they existedWell yeah, you never left your first system. You've been blindly following the log thinking its mandatory. You get a free freighter on your third jump after you save it from pirates.>The game directly tells you to do all the base building stuff as wellIt tells you, at most, to put down a base computer and the blueprint thing where you will then build a small shack that takes, at most, 10 minutes to complete.>you're one of those players who has played continuously since release and has no idea what the new player experience is anymoreyou know its effortless for me to make a new save file, right? I do it all the time. But since you're being rude I feel no compulsion to help you further.
>>747520131>Oh, thats not the onboarding questline. Thats just the main quest. The tutorial ends once you fix your ship the first timeNot true anymore, they lock purple systems behind completing that shitty quest
>>747509378can I finally play as a straight White man with my space AR15?or are the "guns" still just nerf waterguns?
>>747523250no you will never be white, rodriguez
>>747517284>It can't force you to build basesit literally forces you to build a base in the main quest, advertiser-ahh post.
>you share a board with people who got filtered by NMSGrim
>you share a board with people who shill NMSGrim
>>747509535fpbpStill no giant sand snakes from the fake trailer either
>>747513268>It's probably the single best game when it comes to true exploration, which isn't something everyone wants, but if you want it this has so many amazing sights to see.Except the exploration is a joke because every planet is exactly one biome, there's fuck all variety in terms of planets or the procedurally generated space objects so you'll see everything there is to see within ten hours and then it's just repetition of the same shit over and over again, outside of the deep water and """gas giant""" planets which require grinding to endgame to finally reach.Meanwhile Everspace gives you a huge world full of actual hand-crafted environments to spend dozens of hours going through and seeing actual genuine variety because it isn't lazy procgen slop and when you finish it you can move on instead of trying to perpetually get blood out of a stone. Infinite content isn't meaningful when the content is heavily limited and fucking boring.
>>747509378No. The better question is why would anyone in their right mind play No Man's Shit when Starfield exists?
>>747509378What are some space games worth playing anons?
I don't play survival crafting games.
>>747521262The tutorial keeps going well after building the first base, you seem to have a very vague idea of what the game even is like yet you keep acting like a smug faggot about it. You're exactly the reason why people keep having wrong expectations about the game.Actual warning to anyone interested in this, if you don't like open world craftybuilders then you absolutely won't enjoy this, and no you can't ignore it as it's 90% of the game and everything is based around grinding resources that must be made from base refiners and other resource grinders.
>>747509378No. It's just live service slop. The devs keep dropping dogshit expansions with 0 content to milk their retarded playerbase. You have to pay hundreds of dollars every year in order to keep up with this shit it's legitimately worse than Paradox slop.
>>747528351I don't think anyone can help you, anon. That anon wasn't even being much of a cunt and you're seething over a tutorial. I think this is firmly a (you) problem.
>>747528351Here's the full first questline by the way, unlike the retarded faggots will try to lie about it will indeed take several hours and it will indeed force you to go through basebuilding. I'm not sure why these faggots are so insecure about it, just be honest and tell that tech points and resource grinding are indeed what the game is about.>>747528865I'm not the anon who first mentioned the tutorial, you're just being a retarded lying faggot who seems to be taking your opinions from youtube videos rather than actually playing the game, what you're saying doesn't match the game at all.
>>747509378fuck noit's still a nag meter simulator where all you do is fill endlessly depleting nag meters with resources so easily obtained and ever-present you ahve to question why the meters even exist>oh, I'm on a hot planet. Got to refill my hot life support meter with Hotium Ore.>walk 2 inches, find patch of Hotium Ore with enough to fill your meter 30 times over>walk around for 5 minutes>oh, my hot life support meter is empty again>walk 2 inches, find patch of Hotium Ore with enough to fill your meter 30 times overrepeatfor everythingfor ever
>>747528947I'd say you're the retarded faggot if you're that bent out of shape over a tutorial. One that just took me a little less than an hour to get through.
Not all planets should be filled with life...
>>747528680Brown hands obviously typed this post. All of the content has been free you retarded jeet.>>747529239Retarded queer didn't build the add ons to the suit that help with environmental protection. That brain rot shit really has degraded your basic comprehension of game mechanics hasn't it?
>>747529327>wow this onboarding tutorial is long>huh what do you mean tutorial? it ends at 10% of what it actually is! well actually I mean 20%... erm erm please stop correcting meStop getting basic facts wrong and setting false expectations, you're just another brand of secondary retard.
>>747529701I look at you and see someone who has somehow managed to convince themselves that an open world survival craft-em-up was somehow not that.
>>747517513>the ship breaking.can you elaborate on this cause that kinda sound fun. in my head im thinking you blow up a ship and it randomly drops like a wing or something. then you kill another for the fuslage and you just repeat till you get enough parts to assemble a ship.. but its probably not that cool.the other thing im thinking is you point the laser at a ship to chop components off then sell them.
>>747513818He is a dedicated gamer, probably much more than most of his haters.
>>747530759Its none of that.In order to make a custom ship you either find or buy the coordinates for a derelict freighter, some are crashed on a planet, a (very rare) few are in orbit. You go there, open a box, and it has a random ship component. That ship component is an inventory item you have to store.Until you have every necessary piece of a ship, you have to store all of them, then carry all of them to the ship building npc. And build your ship. Start again if you forgot something.Once built ships do not "break apart" in any way. Your ship has a health bar and if it depletes it explodes. Its tedious in the extreme. Pretty much like the rest of the game. There's a reason half the advice online to do with custom ships is "do it in creative"
>>747530759Its the second thing. Except instead of a laser you get a janky gravity gun. I guess you do get a laser too, but its the mining laser and you just use it to break things to get to the gravity gun goodies. Also if you fuck up things explode.I haven't fucked with it too much yet.
>>747509378I'd say no only because Sean himself admitted that NMS is a giant test platform for features and content coming up in Light no Fire. Seems like he's learned his lesson so I'm keeping a close eye for there next game.
>>747530759It's not that, just random "shipwreck" spawns you find which are just another kind of glorified lootbox to grind.>grind tech points and resources to build a rangefinder>it reveals shipwreck POIs in space>grind the parts and materials there to add to your generic resource hoardBasically just the space version of the shitty grind ruins.
>>747531172is the custom ship the same thing as the corvette?
>>747531579Corvettes are the big custom ships. But you can scrap the little ones for parts to put together a specific ship you've been looking for.The ship breaking is a new thing as of a day or so ago. Here's a video about it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7J2YWoF2kQ
>>747509378I don't even think the game is that bad but NMSfags here are on par with Star Citizen cultists. Always trying to twist some highly embellished idea of what the game plays like and what you'll actually spend your time with, yes it is about basebuilding and grinding resources to unlock other resource grinds, combat is indeed trash and stays trash, you'll never have an impact in the universe and what you do in the game, you'll never find a quest that'll change your notion of the writing you see at the beginning of the game, if you can't tolerate that then it's simply not for you and there's no need to pretend it's something else entirely, the core is always the same and the only thing that changes is the context of the resource grind.
>>747531924sounds interesting enough to reinstall and play a bit
I can't get over how ugly interiors look, it's always this black militaristic sci-fi-steel™ completely covered in distracting gas coming out of every orifice, with generic utilitarian shelves and containers that have absolutely nothing to do with anything.Planet surfaces aren't much better, they're all designed to look very colorful and busy to seem good in screenshots but there's zero sense of being there, it's just screen-space blobs of colors with overbearing contrast and saturation you quickly learn to ignore to follow the floating markers instead. It's also full of unexplained gas everywhere and you can't even tell when one of the generic weather events is happening since the baseline is already so meaninglessly busy, a storm just adds more gas and makes it move faster.
>>747520131>The base quests? Oh I haven't even touched them. Completely optional. You literally cannot get the hyperdrive without going through the tutorial which first makes you build a base, and to build the hyperdrive you need materials from base refiners. No idea what game you're playing but it certainly isn't NMS.
>>747515160>Your public tantrum doesn't erase that fuckloads of flies on shitlol
>>747515097yep it still sucks ass, see you in 3 years
>>747509637Why did you start by saying it was worth playing when everything you said after contradicts that point?
>>747513268>fun situations>posts a generic backdropThis is what the typical NMS faggot enjoys
>>747518358get better taste and you won't have to deal with that
>>747509378not until they add automation like satisfactory
>>747513268>you won't find many alternatives that do space as well as no man's sky doesEvery space game I've played does space better than NMS. It's by far the least developed area of the game and it will stay fundamentally bad because it's just a static diorama of planets and POIs with nothing "space" about it besides set dressing.NMS fans are like gacha or MMOfags, they only think in terms of "you go to space", "you own a space station", they don't think about how those things actually feel and play out, what the underlying mechanics are, it's all about the fantasy without any substance and fun gameplay. You can use the same action verbs to describe what you do in KSP too, but obviously it plays nothing like NMS, the actual core of the game is realistic physics and engineering that fundamentally supports the space simulation as opposed to NMS, which is about collecting trash and putting that trash in your trash compactors to make another kind of trash in an infinite loop of trash.
