It's mostly a rigging thing, comes up in every thread about centaursIn unity and unreal, 3d humanoid characters have standardized system of bones and animations. Once you change to quadrupeds or characters with no legs, the workload for animating them blows up. You can't reuse other humanoid animations and there's a lot less artists experienced with it.

They should use scandinavian trolls more, as a sort of str/wis race rather than the retard str race they most commonly are portrayed as in RPGs. Trolls are innately magical beings, the art of magic is literally called trollkonst in scandinavian languages. Every troll is the other unlike, and they are semi-reclusive beings that live secluded, but despite this they can still have kingdoms and cities hidden in the mountains. Trolls aren't innately evil but have no christian morality (or whatever is the equivalent in your setting). They're monstrously strong, and can live for a long time, but are not skilled at organized warfare. They also steal children from other races and swap them for their own. They'd have rivalries with dwarves and elves.
