This is going to be the definitive proof of whether oot truly DOES hold up today or if it was just great for 1998
Not really. Because they could change a ton of things and those changes could be the things people hate. Like with FF7 remake. No one with a thinking mind think FF7 remake retroactively makes the original better or worse. They're not even similar games. But so far, from what little footage we've seen, it does look like the OoT remake didn't get rid of the dark atmosphere. Which was my biggest worry. The porcelain doll look is dumb. But what's more important is the dungeons and locations retain the same tone as the original. And so far it looks like they have. Emphasis on "looks like."
>>747512868I don't mind the doll look for the characters but they really should be less oily.My biggest issue is the color palette, it looks so muted and washed out that it loses a lot of the emotional tone compared to the original and really does give off the "hired this man" vibe
>>747512024So...>It'll butcher the story with the redone flavortext>The english dub sucks>Matt Mercer as Ganondorf is tonedeaf>The visual mood will lack the same melancholy>No fixed cameras in housesIt's not the same game but a flashier interpretation of it that will copy and paste all of the same level design without much consideration, while making everything much easier than it already was.You will literally not be able to play this and tell OoT fanatics that you've played their game.
>>747513194For me it's landing where Link's Awakening landed. You can definitely say Gameboy version had a quirky feeling already but the remake looked so toylike that I thought it wasn't gonna hit the same, but I actually loved it, and thought it did a great job recapturing its essence. The remake of this will probably end up landing the same essence, even if I agree that it's gonna miss that mature tone it used to have simply due to the lack of the heavier cinematography and more moody color palette.
>>747512024I just played it through the pc port earlier this year and it did hold up, so no I don't really need to buy a shitty remake to do so.
>>747512024Looking forward to the titan returning to rule the earth once again
>>747512024I frequently see letsplayer who are playing the 64 version for the first time and they repetively enjoy it.It's already proven.
>>747512024Haven't played OOT in over 10 years so I'm actually excited to play the Remake.
>>747513916Bait chart.>>747513194>eVeRyThInG lOoKs oIlYIt doesn't at all.Wow one (1) fucking scene during a heavy thunderstorm has the characters being wet.What. A. Shock.
>>747512024It never did, you're just blinded by nostalgia.
Held up in 1998? Holds up today.Games? Don't age.
>>747512024>awful voice acting>autoshield>one item button>puzzles are even easieractually it will be worse than the original
Did you notice that the kokiri in the remake are visible from infinitely far away unlike in the original where they only appear when you get very close to them? This is because the Indian team Nintendo outsourced development to assumed this behavior was due to hardware limitations rather than a deliberate design choice to highlight the fae nature of the kokiri.
>>747518127>This is because the Indian team Nintendo outsourced development to assumed this behavior was due to hardware limitations rather than a deliberate design choice to highlight the fae nature of the kokiri. It was hardware limitations. Other characters will disappear a certain distance away. Like the guards in Kakariko Village or Goron's in Goron Village. And even a lot of background objects.
preordered the console and the physical game. finally get to play the best game ever made for the first time again
>>747518629Yes, other NPCs get culled, but from a much farther distance. The kokiri disappear if you take five steps away from them.
>>747512024They essentially turned it into some AA slop like their latest remasters, and the changes are all for the worse. It won't hold up, I doubt it will even get < 92 on metacritic.
>>7475120243DS version already proved it doesn't. It had a much larger sample size of reviews, and got a lower score as a result. The remake will no different.
>>747518629Kokiri NPCs have a lower render distance on purpose. It's a separate value.
Thoughts on ourguy's opinion?https://youtu.be/9W35w0xn34U
>>747519432not clicking but no I won't, just like I didn't buy that ugly LA "remaster"
>>747518997Also definitive proof that it was intentional is the cutscene where Link first leaves Kokiri Forest and runs right by an invisible Saria who appears behind him and scares the shit out of him.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-poU2a9AGc
>>747518127not even grezzo fucked that up with the 3ds remaster
>>747519406>94 is badWhat are you, an asian parent?
>>747512024It doesn't even deserve a 90 Metacritic for all the shitty changes. That pathetic voice acting alone should subtract like 3 points.
>>747512024basketball guns will become the world's greatest sports entertainment happening every sunday when we get robots and ai and also VR controlled robots playing it on camera.
>>747520787>That pathetic voice acting alone should subtract like 3 pointsvoice acting is literally the thing 80-90% games would improve if they removed it or replaced it with some fake language like Monster Hunter did.
>>747518127And it was dumb as fuck. Thankfully, Ship of Harkinian lets you cut that stupid feature out.
>>747522167>the tranny port lets you cut out parts of the game after you cut off your dick. Big suprise.
>>747522941Cope fag. OoT was great but it's not flawless. Little fixes like making Iron Boots an equippable item are improvements. And, yes, stopping the Kokiri from popping in 5 feet away from you is nice as well.
>>747512024The gameplay isn't the problem, it's perfectly fine for an AA title, which is what the AAA industry needs to return to.
