If it was a decompilation then I can understand how having the source code would enable more advanced ROMhacks, but I don't know why I'd play Super Metroid or ALttP on PC natively instead of just using Snes9x. DK64 with modern resolutions, framerates, and instant tagging is genuinely big, but DKC isn't even something like Sonic where you move so fast that widescreen helps reaction times. The most bizarre one of these recomps I've seen is Valkyrie Profile. 3D games could benefit from resolution or mouse controls perhaps, 2D action games could benefit from frame rate, some types of games could benefit from modding. What in the actual fuck are you going to do to improve Valkyrie Profile??? Damn it, /v/, you were doing so good with the whole AI thing, but now you're the same as all the other fearmongering retards who fundamentally don't understand how AI works.
>>747515065My understanding is that Recomps are more for better performance, lower overhead, and some quality of life features or certain changes you can make like the widescreen Super Metroid posted up above. The best example currently is the people changing gen 1 Pokemon into 3D games with voxels.Decomps are all of that plus the ability to allow changes on a fundamental level since they have an understanding of the entire game due to it all being decompiled, implement features without being beholden to the game as it is, and make changes that can't be done simply. A simple example would be modern FireRed and Emerald romhacks that backport gen 9 mechanics, add every Pokemon ever released, have the Pokedex show you EVs and movelists, etc.

>>747555493Yeah I agree, I was just fucking around. If I get around to playing the recomp or emulating, I'm 100% using tag anywhere.
>>747536559Things will get even worse I'm sure.>>747539347ishygddt
>widescreenThat's cheating. You didn't beat the game. You struggle to play a game millions of children finished in the 90s.
>>747512481Why does everything need a fucking shitty vibecoded recomp. It makes sense for ps2-3 era games but you can literally run a snes emulator on a fucking ds
>>747557946Imagine emulating SNES on the DS take enough less power that you get 2 more hours of play time before needing to recharge.Imagine a windows native x86 code recomp can run on a fucking 1st gen pentium 4 and still has some CPU% to spare. These are good goals. The counter argument basically leads us to "Why is this game so low FPS for apparently no reason"think b4 u speak
>>747558098>Imagine a windows native x86 code recomp can run on a fucking 1st gen pentium 4Can it, though?
>>747558441Of a SNES game written in C++? Assuming the VBS codebase reqs are ported to for example WinXP SP3's maximum version handling, and the code is native SSE2? Yes absolutely. A 1.6Ghz Wilamette 1st gen P4 should be able to do it no problem. That pentium 4 could probably run N64 games at least maintaining base speed at 100% no problem.yes this is what "recomp" is ultimately supposed to mean.
>>747554570Update: Full VRM control is implemented and it all works.100% slop coded.I now have a custom, lightweight program that fully controls BIOS level settings I otherwise would need to install ASUS' shitty bloatware to change or reboot to BIOS, and that voltage offset control wasn't even possible with that shitty program. If you got a brain start using AI for your ideas this is awesome.
>>747512481This isn't the way Donkey Kong would have wanted it...
>>747534819>AI or a troonIf these are the only two options, we are so fucked.
>>747534819AI implies they cut corners and got lazy, wanting the clout more than they wanted a decent recomp. A troon probably put more effort into making a recomp than they did trying to pass as a woman, but at least said recomp would be competent.
>>747536546he has a wife btw
Nobody needs a fucking recomp of 2D shit that is easily emulatable. Recomps of 3D N64/PS1 etc games are good though
>>747561620The argument for why your post is going in the wrong direction has already been mad eITT multiple times.
>>747546894i can easily emulate your brain on my pirate casio calculator
>>747561748sure but can you emulat an actual pirate in your own brain?I can't do impressions to save my life, put a gun to my head and ask me to be a 1920s new york italian mob gangster and I'm fuckin deaddidnt think about that did ya
>>747514403It's even more useless than those advanced emulators that used unity as a renderer and replaced sprites with 3d models
>the east coast chuds woke up
>>747536559episode name/number?
>>747512481The biggest reason for recomps was performance. No one has issues emulating snes games.
>>747512481>vibe code slopLMAO
>>747534819holy fucking retard lmao
