Has there *ever* been a good movie based on a video game?
>>747522668Ace Attorney.
The Prince of Persia movie.First Silent Hill movie.
>>747522668doom
>>747522668The persona 3 movies were pretty good
most hentai
i preferred the silent hill movie to the game
Exit 8 was surprisingly pretty good.
>>747522668>opening scene is a 9/11 jokeit was brettygud
I feel like movies based off video games have been universally hated since they started doing it. But now it seems people can't get enough of them and I don't really know how that happened, maybe it was around the time movie games became popular so there really isn't much difference
>>747523131Mah nigga
>>747523023Doom was good. That fps part was neat and the blonde chick had nice tits.
The CG Resi movies are fun.
>>747522668unironic answer. iron lung>inb4 impotent jealous seething about ecelebsget fucked. movie was good
>>747523534It was solid, but the script needed tightening, a rewrite or two as the ending started to break apart.
>>747523534pirating it now. i'm gonna come back to this thread later and call you a nigger if it sucked.
>>747522668Based on a vidya?>First Silent Hill >Mortal Kombat ('95)>Mortal Kombat ('21)>Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn (fuck you i liked it, I didn't realize what year it took place in so when the Covenant came in and everyone was genuinely horrified and surprised so was i)Apparently those Sonic movies, Detective Pikachu, and new Marios are good, but I haven't seen them.
>>747522668no matter what happens, he can pretty safely say he made the best resident evil movie of all timelol
i liked the first silent hill movie and the Doom moviei don't mind movies being more of a reimagining of the vidya, it's not made for the same audience
>Best movie based in a videogame>It has no videogameFunny how it works
>>747522668Postal
>>747522668.
We're in a golden age of indie vidya movies.>Iron Lung>Exit 8>The Backrooms (though I guess it's based on a meme/youtube vids really)were all movies I thought would be abject shit slop but surprisingly were great, better than more funded adaptations of larger franchises, and better than other movies I've seen recently
>>747523870it ain't my fault if you have shit taste>>747523827honest criticism from me is that it needed subtitles for some of speaker parts. IMO they should have played more with male and female voices as for example the tow ship supervisor and "ellie" voices can sound similar with the static of the speaker. Plus side it had a lot of "show, don't tell" details that only become obvious on second watch Overall its cosmic horror done right. Gave me similar vibes I got from The Void which I also liked
>>747523870>5.50gb>webdlDisgusting, either download a pure uncompressed 4k copy or just fuck off.
>>747523870Looking forward to hearing from you in an hour
The fact you have to ask shows how few films you have watched.
>>747522668This isn’t based on a video game
>>747522668Mortal Kombat and the first Tomb Raider.Everything else is irredeemable garbage.>>747522980Silent Hill is insulting as fuck feces.
>>747525548It’s a wkuk skit that got to use resident evil licensing
>>747525434I don't think a blu-ray release even exists.
>>747524348hardcore henry was also awesome. Too bad they never got traction to do some proper FPS adaption. Something like FEAR: the movie would have been perfect as a base
>>747524883True, there are already short movies based on that shotgun russian roulette game and Papers Please, we are eating good.
>>747525636I liked the part where pyramid head ripped someone's skin off like he was undressing his hooker
>>747525434I stand with anon. You purists need to fuck off. Let us enjoy our entertainment without resorting to your insufferable rules. Your presence is vexing enough
>>747525548>>747525718its an "original" script they could not get funded an slapped the IP name on. Many such cases, SAD!
>>747523870You need to be a very specific kind of autist to enjoy that movie, anon. I enjoyed on CAM because I couldn't wait for a proper release. You are not like us, and thus you will think as a waste of time. It's just a guy rambling inside a container for more than an hour, but it's exactly the kind of cuhrayzee I like.
>>747522668This isn't RE in any way shape or form. They just called it that because "Zombie movie 9001" wasn't going to get green lit.
>>747522668>From the director of....shit movieWow
>>747523243>I don't really know how that happenedthey started getting made by people who actually liked the source material
>>747522668Yes, the 90s Street Fighter movie
>>747526084Remember, test audience said this movie had too much humor in it. Cregger was jamming more quips than Joss Whedon into his zombie horror movie. If it didn't have the RE name on it, this movie would be a guaranteed flop
>>747522668The silent hill movie is alright
I loved the first three resident evil movies with jovovich. There wasn't many zombie movies around back then. Hell i even had afterlife iirc it was called, the second one on dvd and watched it on loop. Sadly not enough zombies in that movie and the black dude never used his custom desert eagles
>>747525636>Mortal Kombat>mfw the final 1v1 of Liu Kang and Shang TsungI knew Netherrealm was shit now but they were dead to me for not including https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxsNnUAyfd4in Aftermath's final fight.
>>747523462those movies were absolute kino
>>747525636REPTILE
>>747526579My dream movie that can literally never happen is a 90s Street Fighter x Mortal Kombat movie, with the same cast from both of the movies fighting each other.Would it be good? I don't know, probably not, but I'd fucking love it to bits.
>>747525636Mortal Kombat (90s version) was amazing. Pity the second one shit the bed.
I'm the only person who liked the doom movie. https://youtu.be/dVJr71V2670
>>747522668street fighter: the moviethe mario bros moviemortal kombat
>>747523131I genuinely think this would have been a great or at least memorable cult classic sci-fi comedy if it wasn't for the script needing to be tied to Mario somehow.
>>747525954This movie was shit but at least the girls were hot. They can't even get that right in modern movies
>>747526579Lol they couldn't even get the characters right. They mixed up the Jamaica dude and the boxer dude. But Raul Julia's portrayal of Bison was legendary
Mortal KombatResident Evil with the sequels being YMMVThe problem with videogame adaptations in general is that there's an inclination to either make fan wank or some kind of "elevated" skinsuit now. To basically not care at all about the tone of the material, the ideas of the material, and just use its name as a skinsuit. The same thing appears in comic book adaptations. The TV show Lanterns is literally just True Detective with rings because that's what HBO wanted. They wanted a "prestige" TV formula show. The upcoming Far Cry TV show by the Alien Earth guy is doing the same. It's just using the name as a brand over his particular flavour of prestige TV.Another problem is that videogame adaptations are really stylistically sauceless now. The Fallout TV show has really bland action scenes and really bland visuals. It looks like a modern American TV show, which is to say it looks fucking terrible. But audiences eat this up.
>>747524461All three of them are at least passable which is way WAY more than I expected. Second one is unironically pretty good on it's own merits.and going on a tangent Sonic crossovers in general have been on a bit of a run lately, the DC crossover is also genuinely enjoyable for what it is.
>>747522668according to the leaked script what was it about?
>>747523462The CG Resident Evil films don't really function as normal movies. They seem entirely oriented around you being pre-invested in these characters. Sorta reminds me of Final Fantasy Advent Children.
>>747522668The Wolfe Among us
>>747527528>The problem with videogame adaptations in general is that there's an inclination to either make fan wank or some kind of "elevated" skinsuit now. To basically not care at all about the tone of the material, the ideas of the material, and just use its name as a skinsuit. It doesn't help that social media is full of these brainless fanboys who will call you all kinds of names for daring to want an adaptation to actually adapt the material. You know the difference between Anderson's RE1 and Cregger's Resident Evil? Anderson's film isn't ashamed to be a Resident Evil movie. It wears Umbrella and the BOWs and all that crazy stuff on it's sleeve, while Cregger's prioritizing snow and "gameplay"
>>747527215Why did we all lose our shit at this specific character announcement?
https://youtu.be/MgSIzo3-DZ0I can't help but smile at this shit
Until Dawn was good.
i liked resident evil 1, lost interest in the 2nd one very quickly though
>>747527712It was genuinely funny.
>>747526921
>>747524461The first Sonic film is the best, although it's interesting how Zack Snyder-ish the sequels have gotten. They even use the same composer as The Snyder Cut with a lot of similar stylistic choices. And 3 in particular feels quite Paul W.S. Anderson-ish in places. Shadow in Tokyo in the rain, the bombastic one liners, but Anderson and Snyder are so similar that the influences blur.
>>747527987I didn't even know they made an Until Dawn movie
>>747522668Resident Evil Vendetta
RE1 was one of my first DVDs. I was amazed by the clarity even on a 14 inch crt. Around that same time I saw crouching tiger hidden dragon on DVD, I remember the animated menus blowing my mind, movie was awesome too. Good times.
>>747527750To be fair, Anderson's film is very interested in the gameplay of Resident Evil. How the player progresses through the mansion or through the RPD. How the protagonist in an RE game becomes stronger by finding better equipment or mastering the environment.Cregger's interpretation of this is frankly odd. He seems to think that the core of the Resident Evil experience is incompetence. This is why the movie is (even with the jokes toned down) non-stop gags like Bryan trying to check how ammo he has and accidentally pressing the ejector button and the magazine falls on the floor. That is not how the games work. But Cregger argues that because he was incompetent playing the RE games, that represents the experience of Resident Evil. The fact that the characters in RE games are all very competent doesn't matter to him. My criticism is that this makes his film functionally indistinguishable from stuff like Barbarian. Literally any videogame adaptation under this model just becomes a comedy of errors.
>>747527671Courier who constantly lies and evades responsibility takes on a last minute delivery.Stuff happens.Gets bitten by dog.Get chased by monsters. There's a monster made up of lots of different bodies that pursues him.Meets some Umbrella employees who die pretty quickly. The fat man in the sewers is full of rats.Reaches hospital. Defeats the monster chasing him by grabbing an acid spewing monster and directing it down an elevator shaft.Leaves voice mail for girlfriend saying that she should keep the baby.Hides infection, delivers package, which is green anti-virus component, kinda like the old movies. They are manufacturing the anti-virus and have it finished and then Bryan the protag mutates, kills everyone, destroys the cure. That's the end of the film. It's the same kind of wet fart ending as Barbarian, and Bryan's arc is weirdly similar to AJ where he has this "I have to be better" moment of growth immediately followed by a "lol na" deflation.
>>747529279He wants to make comedies but keeps shitting up the horror genre.
>>747529942Horror/comedy is a valid subgenre. But he seems a little bit of a one trick pony in this regard.
>>747529942>Anybody else got this in the cinema recently? They made us watch it before an unrelated movie today and I was honestly surprised by how funny it was.>I don't know if it's because the main guy is kinda giving Jason Sudeikis' drug dealer persona from We're The Millers or just a tonal choice in the script itself?>The whole cinema broke out in laughter several times. I was the only one who laughed at the abortion joke though lol>I don't remember a ton about the Milla Jovovich Resident Evils or only some snippets from the games, but I guess it's certainly an interesting choice to go this way. Also, it felt VERY American. Like, I know the game is technically set in America,.but it's the most Japanese version of America possible and the movie isn't that at all. That's from someone who saw the first 17 minutes of the film before a Get Out screening. I think this film is going to be hugely polarizing. People lost their shit over "Zootopia Porn", and they're expected to find jokes about abortion and Bryan saying, "Your body your choice, babe" funny.Maybe it'll work, who knows. But I don't feel like positive reviews or any of that stuff will really fix the brewing PR issues.
>>747525856you are encouraging and distributing a dogshit format at dogshit bitrates.>>747525746You can certainly do better than webdl
>>7475315025.5GB for x265 can be good (not as good as a proper 12-30GB rip, though it does seem like it might be unnecessary for web-dl
>>747523534The movie was painfully boring and the best parts were the parts ripped straight from the game. Mark really needed to bring in a few people to lighten the load or atleast find an actor to play the main character.
>>747522668Pic related.
>>747525954I only realized recently Goku was also Tom Cruise's son in War of The Worlds. Insane how his career just gone after DB movie
Although I think animated movies are kind of a cheatLive action is very challenging to get right

>>747523462>This is what vidya fags wanted in the new movie
>>747522668Apparently not
>>747522668>Has there *ever* been a good movie-No
>>747523462This movie was fucking Resident Evil. Chris, Leon, Rebecca fighting egomaniacal crazies with bioweapons.I also liked the previous one where Leon faces off against Mummy from Russia.
>>747522668Fatal Frame (2014), Mortal Kombat (1995), Mortal Kombat II (2026), and Silent Hill (2006) are all solid vidya movies
>>747539727yeah the new MK movie is shockingly enjoyable considering how shit the previous one was. Maybe my fave video game movie
>>747534745Man, the animation in this was so wack. They manage to switch styles like 4 times and all of them are shitty
>>747527652yeah i really liked the wedding segments in the second one. each one has a different theme which i appreciate.
>>747528420ive never seen an anderson or snyder movie but i can see the shadow stuff being influenced by snyder. other than that, they all kinda had a 90s feel to them, mostly the first two.
>>747534745>>747541042I love Dead Space, but this really is ugly and shitty.
>>747522668Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva is a solid film.https://youtu.be/J26uI-NkqLQ?si=ezW9ZhU_W9ANlcto
>>747524348This had no right to be as good as it was, holy fuck. Genuinely one of the best movies of the 2010s.
>>747522668First re movies are better than games
>>747524348russia's best modern contribution
>>747527528Yeah. A lot of people try to argue that you can't adapt a videogame into a movie or series at all, which seems absurd to me. I think the problem is just they've never actually wanted to be making these films in the first place, or at least never wanted to adapt them properly. Although in modern times the problem seems to be more that the "fans" of franchises are heavily skewed by people that have not played any of the games, like Resident Evil for example.
>>747522668The first Super Mario Brothers movie.>>747523131>>747523273>>747527297my niggas
