What I still don't quite understand is the artistic merit of this particular decision.

What would you prefer?

Your mom's pussy. The c-stick would be her clitoris.

Cumpact ergonomics for me to poop on

they were great, i wish nintendo didn't try so hard with new for the sake of new, and actually iterate on the GC controller.
Future iterations could have added 'Z' to the face buttons, and proper L1/R1.

The real question is why it was the only one to innovate and put the left thumbstick in the primary position on the left side. Even the ps5 controller of the current day still does the reverse.

I associate dpads with retro games because mechanically it's a much simpler control scheme you use for things like... idk jrpg menus and stuff. Why you would give it prime position on a controller in 2026 i have no idea.

Someone at nintendo designed a control scheme, then they designed a controller around that.

Ergonomics. It's still one of the most ergonimic controllers of all time.

Sega already did that in 1996, followed by the Dreamcast controller in 1998. Granted, both used a single stick but the placement of it got picked up by Gamecube and Xbox in 2001.

I'm more interested why there is no left Z shoulder button

Been a long time, what were x and y used for in Smash Bros?

Jumping

Because it looks cool.
It's okay for things to look cool, in fact that's usually the best reason for anything in terms of design.
You should try it some time.

This controller fucking sucks. I appreciate it for what it was back in the day, but this is the only controller that fucks my hands.

This controller destroyed Hax$'s hand and eventually his life
>>
>change cstick from a nub to a real joystick like on the left (keep it yellow)
>add zl button
>add rumble with switch to disable it to the wavebird
There I fixed it.

They ran out of letters. Nothing comes after Z and they already used X and Y.

make it a period because that's what ends the alphabet song

I'm getting mixed signals here

It was a Y2K thing

In civilized nations that would be a "Now I know my A-B-Cs" button.

idk I've never held one
