Why are they barely known in the west? Square is a big name, surely they'd be just as popular as Final Fantasy, no?
>>747528606bump for interest
>>747528606The original SaGa sub-series was renamed in the west, and the Romancing sub-series wasn't localized at the time, so Square didn't build awareness of the series/brand the way they did with Final Fantasy. Frontier wasn't marketed much, but gained a bit of a following in part because Square had built up a decent following and a fair bit of goodwill at the time. Frontier 2 was both really poorly marketed and is a somewhat divisive entry, though, and Unlimited is even more divisive, so the series didn't grow much of a fan-base from Frontier's relative success.
>>747528606Its because Final Fantasy helped define what a JRPG is in the west so any major deviations from that kind of design like SaGa would prove to be not as popular. Which is ironic since SaGa plays much more closer to a CRPG than your typical narrative driven JRPG.
>>747528606Idk, Romancing Saga 3 remake trailer looked pretty decent.
