The problem is that SS is incredibly amateurish in design, a remaster can only do so much to salvage that in post without a complete overhaul.This is the consequence of the Link's Crossbow training pogrom that they used to cull all the veteran developers not willing to be micromanaged by Miyamoto.

I never felt the urge to revisit any of the areas, and the sky overworld was just super uninteresting to me. I get that the WW sea is just as empty, but I really enjoyed sailing around and exploring it for whatever reason. I think it's partially that you have this massive cloud below you which makes it hard to get a sense of scale. Also, flying around felt like a chore, so even if I wanted to check stuff out I'd feel discouraged knowing I'd have to fly. That said, I loved the story, characters, and the dungeons are some of the best in the series (I particularly liked Lanayru Mining Facility, the Ancient Cistern, and the Sandship minus the final boss).

I will never forgive Nintendo for not allowing Link to leave with Midna back to the Twilight Realm. They were perfectly content to let him abandon his Little Sister and Granny to voyage with Tetra for New Hyrule after WW in PT/ST, and for Link to settle on the Surface with Zelda in SS. They also have no problem with Links going on sequel Solo Journeys after their main game quest is over (MM, LA, and Triforce Heroes). At least the Granny softened the blow in the manga.
