Am I fucking up by keeping mouse acceleration turned on in my Windows settings? Is it preventing me from being better at vidya?
Do you even play video games if you're asking this anon
>>747538831I've heard only psychopaths turn on mouse acceleration
>>747539024i've played 15 years on mouse acceleration on my PC and never even considered checking if something like that was turned on. i thought i had it turned off but i've apparently been using it this whole timei just turned it off and it feels weird. i keep missing when trying to click buttons
>>747539106I don't think it really matters for anything that doesn't require precise mouse movements but it personally feels like total shit for me so I've never had it on in the like 20 or whatever years I've been playing vidya on PC.
>>747538831Depends on the game, some FPS games have a setting or take raw mouse input by default so it doesn't matter for those
>>747538831> Am I fucking up by keeping mouse acceleration turned Yes, it is shit> Is it preventing me from being better at vidya? No, but it is still pretty bad option
>>747538831turn it off
>>747538831unless you want to be better than diamond rank, it doesnt matter
>>747538831Mouse accel is pretty common but nobody does it in the windows settings.
>>747538831windows mouse setting at 6 is default/no acceleration, it's better to have a constant dpi in mouse settings (800 is most popular i think), no acceleration in game, fiddle with in game sensitivity til you stop feeling drag or get it somewhere you like, aim with your am instead or wrist and have a big ass mousepad. having said that acceleration isn't all bad, you can build muscle memory around it too it's just mostly not as consistent and for the best experience you want to use a driver or software to make it as consistent as possible like this //github com/RawAccelOfficial/rawaccel/releases
>>747540453it sure FEELS like it matters
>>747538831Yes
>>747541104how different is rawaccel compared to the windows one?
>>747541104>aim with your am instead or wrist and have a big ass mousepadI'm a wrist-aimer with 1600 DPI and I literally gape noob ass all day in counter-strike competitive. Unless you are trying to be a pro you don't need to do everything pro's do
>>747543098do you use 1600 DPI when just browsing around on your computer?I just tried to have mine set to that and it seems impossible to click anything
>>747538831most games will bogart your mouse by default and apply their own settings, over-riding Windows settings.
>>747543610>do you use 1600 DPI when just browsing around on your computer?yeh, just use your wrist, are you sure it's at 1600? I use small movements on my mice to use my pc, way more chill than swinging my arm around like a monkey to click on a window
>>747543653yes its common for unreal engine games (which is all games now) to force mouse acceleration. its called mouse smoothing and its been forced since unreal engine 3 (2006).
>>747543610I use 2400 dpi. cant STAND having to swim through my desktop.
>>747543653>bogartWho the fuck says this? I don't think I've heard that word since the late 80s.
I play on 5200 DPI and just got used to it over time
>>747538831If that is your plateau, you're asking the wrong people
>>747544010Gigachads use it
>>747543098>Unless you are trying to be a pro you don't need to do everything pro's doyou're prone to more health/hand problems with wrist aim and less consistency but whatever works really, most people its a combo anyway, wrist micro when flicking, arm when tracking
>>747546326How does someone build up the strength to use arm aiming without getting tired after like 3 minutes?
>>747538831Acceleration introduces an extra variable into the mouse movement that you have to account for. It's basically playing games where you have to aim on hard mode. If you like to put games on hard mode, go ahead and keep it on, it makes the game harder.
If you are used to use mouse acceleration you are used to use mouse acceleration.
>>747538831>Am I fucking up by keeping mouse acceleration turned on in my Windows settings? You get used to one or the other. Before big mouse mats got common a fair amount of quake and CS pros used acceleration. 99% of games today use raw input by default and ignore the windows setting (or have a setting to turn on raw input). Its not been a problem to forget to turn it off for years. Everyone just saying turn it off are just parroting crap. I don't mind enhanced pointer precision for desktop use because I use 400dpi @4k res and know that all the games I play ignore it.
I'm 40 and I don't think I've ever even looked at "Mouse Properties" before. I just plug it in and go. What have I been missing all these years?
