4chan's Bizarre MMOdventure is going to play Asheron's Call on the InfiniteLeaftide server for the next 2-3 weeks, feel free to join in.
Guild name is still being decided, watch this space for what it'll be.

>Download
https://emulator.ac/how-to-play/
InfiniteLeaftide is a private server found via the ThwargLauncher utility, as virtually all private servers for Asheron's Call require said launcher.
Every completed quest on InfiniteLeaftide grants small flecks of permanent +EXP% across your account, incentivizing exploration over raw grind (at least at first).

>Starting City
Shoushi is recommended for newfags, but it's not required. All starting cities can be easily reached via the server's Town Network, so go for whichever one sounds most interesting to (You).

Guild vote: https://poal.me/1iu0kr

Quick starter FAQ:
>How do I get to the server after installing the game?
Launch ThwargLauncher -> open the Browse Servers window (if it's not open already) -> find InfiniteLeaftide -> click "Add server" -> click InfiniteLeaftide on the main ThwargLauncher window -> type whatever Username/Password you want to use -> click Launch
You only have to go through the whole process once, fortunately.

>Don't I have to make an account somewhere first?
Server accounts are made via ThwargLauncher, so just pretending you already have an account will make that account for you.

>The game launches in fullscreen 640x480, and I can't see shit
Alt+Enter upon starting up, and it'll change the client to be windowed. The game's resolution can be changed in the options thereafter.

>I'm stuck on some weird "Connecting to Server" screen when launching the game
Close the client and relaunch it. Sometimes that just happens, should be fine after a restart.

It's just what we voted on.
We had like nine different servers to choose from taken from treestats.net, and InfiniteLeaftide came out on top. The gradual, stacking EXP bonuses from quests was a major draw compared to other alternatives.

>>747543064
So long as everything was installed to the correct directories as shown in the how-to guide in the OP, it should be working fine? Unless you're on Linux.
Assuming you're on Windows, you might have to download/install Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1, if you haven't already: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347
vcredist_x86.exe specifically, as this is a game from 1999 and uses old-as-sin binaries.

it's because none of these niggas played these games and work off blindly from what info anyone digs up. I mentioned it again but the project should really consider offloading the server work to /v/ for these niche games

if it's one thing /v/'s good at, it's not playing the games. so of course they'd have autistic knowledge about servers to consolewar about instead which ironically helps in our server research

Took me way longer to realize this than I'd like to admit, but you can salvage the random gear you find from mobs via the Ust tool in your inventory (kind of looks like a putty knife - brown handle, white blade). Double click on it to open the Salvage prompt, then shove whatever you don't need in there.
Still not sure how to just toss unwanted duplicates of quest items and your tutorial gear, however. There's gotta be some way.
It's tempting to equip the OP freebie equipment and become even more overpowered on this server, but that'd take a bit of the fun out of the earlygame. Might forego the buff-bots in town as well, just to see what my actual strength should be like around this level.

Speaking of levels, you apparently draw from a shared pool of EXP between Attributes and Skills. The former are just raw stats, while the latter are what you actually do with those stats. Weapon affinities, magic schools, crafting, defenses, even your basic run/jump effectiveness are found in there.
You'll need Skill Credits to unlock skills you aren't already trained in, which comes slower than EXP (probably a 1:1 credits/levels ratio).

Arcane Lore is a notable callout, as basically everything you find will have some form of enchantment on it. Have to meet that item's Arcane Lore requirements in order to be granted those buffs. (Unless you're using the superbuffs in town, which is lame but somewhat understandable).
Lockpicking is another one which is apparently pretty useful, as some quests require successfully picking the lock on a chest at the end of a dungeon in order to get quest items. Grab lockpicks as well, highest quality you can find. Quests are everything on this server, so you don't want to go through an entire dungeon only to be met with a keyless chest at the end and no way to pick it.

Too sleepy to roll in at the moment but if you fags are still playing after I wake up, (you) this post with the guild name or whoever I have to contact to get invited into it.

Due to it getting rather late, and with how easy it is to warp yourself to all corners of the world via the portal network (and thus become even more spread out from one another), I'll call the Guild poll here so we can get a banner for ourselves going. Otherwise it's going to be about ~8 of us running around with no correspondence, and that just ain't right.

If you're still alive, head to the Town Network portal, there's one in every capital city. Once you're there, you'll find (Me) camped up next to the Sho section of the main plaza.
Gotta recruit person-to-person in this title, no easy /ginvite to be found here, so get'cha self down to the site when you can. Thankfully, anyone from the Allegiance can recruit anyone else (so far as I'm aware), so things should become more manageable for us after a night or so.
Yes, this was largely just copy/pasted from the other thread. Still gets the message across all the same.

Alright-y, both our Allegiance and Fellowship have been made. The former being the closest thing this game has to a Guild, and the latter being a more convoluted approach to a standard Party. Not sure if Allegiances can be named, but Fellowships can, at least.
Message either Allegreza or Krok Archferrum for an invite. Both of us have full invite permissions. Still has to be face-to-face, but meeting in the Town Network isn't much hassle.

I literally leveled up a character named Nigger to like level 97 rebirthed and then quit and came back and the server was dead on ragna/v/. Other than that I had fun, but later I made an account on the official ragnarok server to find everyone on /v/ lied and there's nothing wrong with the official server.

There's high/medium/low attacks, which have different properties if you've specced into Dirty Fighting.
How long you hold down your change before striking also influences its speed versus power/accuracy. Applies to all forms of damage, melee/ranged/magic.
Summoning Magic is also a thing, but I haven't ran into anyone running it thus far. Components for summoning Mud Golems are available at certain magic vendors in the major cities, but surely there must be more to that school of magic than just building mud castles.

I'll get on in a few hours once I'm home. it's been a bit since I've played with you niggers

yeah, I wonder why a bunch of people that know nothing about AC didn't choose this ACME BETA server which isn't even listed on treestats...

Did you guys get a feel for what the gameplay is without the buffs and starter gear? I kept getting some seemingly high quality gear as loot for so early in the game. Mobs sometimes respawn so fast that I don't even have time to get the loot before they are back. I wonder if this is how it is or if it's gonna get better further along. I wish I had played this game back in the day so I had a reference point.

I wonder what the party gameplay is like.

>Did you guys get a feel for what the gameplay is without the buffs and starter gear?
not really, first dungeon we went to I got instagibbed by a crystal 3 times in a row and reluctantly popped the bot buffs as to not waste our Supreme Leader's precious time. When I went back to bonk my starter area mobs they literally could not land a single hit on me, had to /die to clear all this garbage.

>I kept getting some seemingly high quality gear as loot for so early in the game
this seemed non-vanilla to me as well. Nearly every item I get is enchanted.
>>
>>747559804
Myself I went to the Aetherium server for a comparison. It uses an older client and is based on some earlier version of the game (Dark Majesty?). The client is clearly worse but at the same time looting works much faster which is weird. I made the same exact character and started in Yaraq again to do the same quest. Very quickly it started looking like an abundance of loot is normal in this game and it regularly drops with those enchanted modifiers so maybe you are not expected to loot it all but be on the lookout for good rolls.

If we opt to not use the buffs and the handout gears then InfiniteLeaftide might as well be the choice. Maybe the game won't change that much.

That it can be. Asheron's Call was one of the very first fully 3D MMOs, developed during a primordial era where there was effectively no clear blueprint to follow for the genre they were creating.
This title has a lot of big ideas and wild ambitions which you simply never saw carried forward as the genre carried on. It's a fascinating piece of history to explore during our brief stay, if nothing else.

Also, an update on Fellowships and Allegiances: The former does not keep those who log out, meaning Fellowships really are just extended parties. Allegiances are indeed the closest thing we have to guilds in this title, and thankfully they can be named, despite my previous misunderstandings.
Message Allegreza, Krok Archferrum, or Flanker for an invite, provided any of us are on. (About to head to bed after being awake for nearly 20 hours, but will be on later this evening).

>>747560805
Indeed, that's what I've gathered as well in poking at other servers prior to the vote swinging to InfiniteLeaftide. Loads of pre-enchanted equipment drops off enemies similar to what you'd find in a Diablo-like ARPG, with most piecs being trash and some being legitimately good and worth keeping.
Been holding off on using any of the blatantly OP gear offered on InfiniteLeaftide in favor of just using what drops in the field, and have been fine so far. Buffbots do appear necessary to tackle Dungeons as >>747559804 remarked, but those alone should be more than enough to carry us through the earlygame while we get our feet wet throughout the next few days.
