dd2 does too many little things worse for me to like it as much as dd1
>>
>>747547210
Base dd1 wasn't that great either. DD2 DA will turn this game legendary.
>>
I like it more than 1 simply because the open world is better. Don't see much difference with the rest.
>>
>>747547210
They explicitly removed loli pawns so it's objectively worse
>>
if the cat people had cat ears and tails the game would immediately go from 7/10 to 8/10
>>
>completely butchered the armor system from dd1
>completely butchered yellow vocations to make thief and archer
>archer is utter dogshit with half its skills being the ability to use special arrows despite this being an automated process in dd1
>thief is retarded OP that got all the good skills from strider/assassin
>magick archer feels neutered because no daggers
>trickster is a literal waste of a vocation
>warfarer exists solely to circumvent the shit armor system that somehow offers less armor on average while having more egregious vocation locking
>several types of weapon upgrade paths but then dwarven is just significantly better than all the others
>armor warps to your character's body proportions which wasn't a thing in dd1
>all capes look like they just float on your character rather than it looking like your character is wearing a cape

i like dd2 but god damn does it suffer from some absolutely retarded decision from POTENTIAL DEVELOPER
>>
>>747547210
1 is a 9/10
2 is a 8/10
>>
>>747547210
is it really that bad? thinking about getting it when it cums to switch 2
>>
>>747548912
it's not bad, but it just makes many baffling decisions that make some parts feel worse than the first game's. things that should have been easy wins were not taken. where a sequel should feel like a direct upgrade to the original it feels more like a side-grade. some good things, some great things - but makes enough odd choices to somewhat bring the experience down if you've played dd1 alot.
>>
>>747548912
It is fun but a lot of people are just shitposting or nostalgia tarding.
>>
Post pawns. Let's do some bossing before the weekend's over.
>>
>>747549039
>>747549056
i played DD1 for the first time when it came to switch 1 and ever since ive been chasing and looking for a game that scratches the same itch, it isn't until now like 8 years later that im playing Elden Ring on my switch 2 that i finally feel like im playing something in the same ballpark.
all the opinions i see on DD2 are all over the place but if it's just more of the same with better graphics then that's fine.
>>
>>747548912
its overhated, since the first game was unfinished a bit jank they expected the sequel to be more polished. It's good but its less polished then the first game, plus it has a lot of microtransactions (completely playable without spending money) and denuvo which led to more negativity towards the game.
>>
>>747549279
Is it your first time playing Elden Ring? I play both series and feel that Elden Ring is about 25% larger than DD2's map (first form) when walking on foot. Some sections of Elden Ring can't be accessed without certain requirements being met, But DD2's main map is very generous allowing you to walk to the late-game sections from the start if you want to without touching the story outside of the first hour of playing. Bosses respawn over time so you always have boss fights to do if you play these types of games for the combat, and enemy spawn rates are infamously high in DD2. 40 minutes of walking in Elden Ring has about the same amount of enemies as 6 minutes of DD2.
>>
>>747549335

tbf it doesn't have its expansion yet but the fact that the music is forgettable means it won't ever stand on equal footing with DDDA.
>>
>>747550320
it did have a lot of the typical crapcom microtransactions on release. and they were removed due to the huge backlash the game received. how is it shitposting to state facts?

still inferior to dd1 but for me personally i like 2 more than 1
Both are great game and there's nothing like it
>>
>>747550484
>and they were removed
So it doesn't have them anymore then and you were just lying before. Even if it did have them on release it's still an intentionally misleading point. The series has always had microtransactions since the first ever release, it even locked actual content and equipment behind them in base DD and also Dark Arisen. If you were remotely honest you'd point out that DD2 removed a lot microtransactions from the franchise and then eventually removed all of them except the pointless lighter camping kit. That's a positive aspect of the second game and the developers listening to the fans, yet shitposters like you were lying by claiming they were all pay to win transactions.

It has a better more dynamic open world and while it does somethings worse than DD1, they aren't so bad as to truly ruin the experience or even mar it that badly at all. Honestly, I kinda prefer it to 1 just for the sole fact that there's more places to explore, more enemies to fight and more to do in Batthal and Vermund than there was in Gran Soren.

Plus, while Mercedes is best girl in 1, she gets utterly femmoged by Ulrika. She's just too cute bros.

>>747551995
The base is better than BBI by a wide margin. WHy are you listening to the retards on /v/ that play games in the most ass-backwards way possible? BBI would've been a lot better if it were structured like the main game instead of being a raw dungeon crawler with not much going in the way of actual landmarks, NPCs and general life to the place. Not horrible, but it really suffers for it.

>>747548912
It's pretty good albeit somewhat unfinished but not abhorrently so, especially now that the framerate issues are fixed. Not the most polished game but I think it accomplishes the open world aspect better than the first game.

I like that they removed the secondary weapons from the yellow classes, but with a bunch of asterixis. Thief is way too good, strider/assassin was in 1 too, but nothing like this. Kicking is cool as an archer, but they should have made some special skills for it, even some jump-kick backflip dodge-move. They shouldn't need to use crafted arrows, I get the idea that crafting specialist arrows is a neat idea, but inventory management have always been ass in DD

Warrior and Spearhand have to much locked animations after some of their moves, which makes it feel, for me at least, bad to play. And monster HP feels weird now, I go from slashing doing little damage to suddenly instakilling smaller foes still when theyre at 90% health. Same goes for monsters, you chip away at them, then suddenly the third time they fall down they lose 2 healthbar in 10 seconds

>>
>>747556124
BBI is a mediocre and lazily made dungeon, with very little exaggeration it is one small dungeon copy pasted four times. If they dared to release such a lackluster dlc for DD2 it would rightfully be review bombed into the ninth circle of hell. Not only that, but the consensus back then when people actually played DD1 instead of parroting opinions was that the base game was a disappointing unfinished mess with barely anything in it. People don't praise the highlights because the game was a masterpiece with so many highs and lows, the parts spoken still about online were the only parts of it worth mentioning. This constant revisionism is really tiring.

>BBI is a mediocre and lazily made dungeon
I have to agree that it's way too small. you have seen everything in a couple hours
>>
>>747557210
You're completely right and it truly bewilders me how I see people present DD1 as some bespoke masterpiece these days when we just kind of accepted it as a very rough, unfinished gem back in the day on /v/ (before /vg/ was even made). I don't know if it's revisionism or just newfags hopping on the contrarian train, but DD1 is unfinished in a lot of the same ways DD2 is. DD2 does certainly regress and walk back some weird things like the armor/clothing layering, but is that really something preventing people from enjoying the game at all considering they claim to love DD1? I don't think so.

The most valid complaints IMO are enemy variety, the casters losing spells, and the music being overall worse. Music is still good, but DD:DA's OST is legendary levels of good. Personally I also liked the leveling of DD1, you really didn't need to minmax and I liked being able to grind levels on Ur-Dragon and Death, but ultimately that's just a flavor thing for me and not a big deal.
None of those prevent me from loving the game.
>>
DD1 is a really fucking good 7/10 game, DD2 is a kinda bad 8/10 game

>>747557778

>>
>>747547210
1 was not good either
it's literally just praised on this board

it's an average rpg with 3 types of enemies
>>
>>747557518
Enemy variety is debatable too since DD1fags will try to claim Hellhounds, Succubi and Sulfur Saurians are new enemy types despite only adding a fireball equivalent to two of their movesets. Then go on to pretend all the goblins with entirely different movesets and AI are exactly the same.
>>
>>747558090
Enemy variety in the open world, for sure. I don't think DD1 really tops DD2 in that regard. But DD1 does have some more interesting big monsters to seek out, although they're pretty much all locked to post-game.

Yeah that's fair. Dragon's Dogma 1's entire mood is roughly "Arisen is just some guy from a small town forced to improvise every step of the way."
He doesn't even know how to really use weapons, but he figures it out over the course of his journey by basically doing errands.
That's why when the dragon shows up, the dragon is almost like "Hey wait a second, this guy is serious?" and is almost happy to have someone not flee for once.

Contrast Dragon's Dogma 2. Arisen here is just some guy doing his job. It makes more sense there's less of a panic and he's just going through motions. If not for being Arisen, he'd probably just be guarding oxcart passengers, maybe become a castle guard or train recruits or something instead. Even the dragon here is like "Listen, I made you Arisen because this is bullshit. Everything is bullshit. I can't tell you what to do, but this world is not real." And is basically redpilling Arisen due to hating this job so much.

>the delightful and ever-novel pleasure of a useless occupation (DD1)
>conviction is the human will that reaches its greatest power. (DD2)

In DD1 the Arisen is arguably the most important person in the world just for being Arisen. He does all that just to sit in the Dark Souls 2 chair.
In DD2 the Arisen is a disposable security guard that no one believes is anything important. He has every reason to better his circumstance.

>In DD2 the Arisen is a disposable security guard that no one believes is anything important. He has every reason to better his circumstance.
The Arisen is treated as the default ruler of the fucking land. Hello?
>>
>>747561770
The DD2 Arisen is one nondescript knight in a pile of nondescript knights, yes he becomes Arisen, but it doesn't matter in DD2, because the establishment has decided it doesn't matter. So the Arisen is now a "False Arisen" that has to do errands to basically convince everyone of what was the truth the entire time, clearing his name so he can actually be main character for once.
>>
>>747561997
>because the establishment has decided it doesn't matter
No, that you as the Arisen has been deposed from your THRONE is very fucking important because it's the driving force of the plot for most of the game. You being Arisen matters as much as in 1 if not moreso because it automatically means you should be ruling the land.
You're saying that the PC is an important person in the world of 1 but not in 2 and that's just a really bizarre thing to say because if anything the Arisen in 2 is MORE important, so important that the primary conflict is that somebody has secretly deposed and is pretending to be you.

In DD1, you are unimportant until the *exact* moment you slay the hydra. Assuming DD2 is "the same story" as DD1, then the establishment of DD1 also dislikes you, even Mercedes, who takes you there, does not even think you are arisen, just some brave fighter. The establishment in DD1 keeps giving you "suicide missions" and are increasingly upset you are not dying until they eventually just turn on you outright at post-dragon. Lucien who seems to be a part of the Salvation cult, is also in the court, and salvation is the one that gives you the bullshit quest that results in the cockatrice attacking Gran Soren.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b482QVddye4

In case you're unaware, the scene at the *start* of DD2, in the royal court, takes place at the *end* of DD2. The actual timeline is that the "exact" moment you became arisen, you were all charred up, similar to DD1 Arisen. Not everyone in-universe knows arisen lore, some people do, some people don't. Knights somehow found out you were Arisen, warned the establishment, and then they sent you to Pawn Gulag.

The Arisen never made it to Vernworth at the start; Ulrika helped him recover for a day, then Dina shipped him off to the slave camp.
Despite the implication that the Arisen is really important and should be King, few believe that (You) are the true Arisen. That's why you're doing spy shit with Brant.
The people of Vermund believe some imposter is the Arisen, and many do shit to get in your way.
The cats of Bakbattahl don't give a fuck about the Arisen. Forbidden Magick guys are trying to fuck up the Cycle themselves, so they impede you.
Once you do fuck up the dragon, even when the world goes to shit because you broke the Cycle, everyone has your back.

In 1, most people recognize you as the Arisen and are willing to help you along almost as soon as you leave the village.
Even the Duke, who fears you succeeding may strip him of power and suggests you give up, still helps you a little bit.
Ironically, the circumstances flip once you fuck the Cycle, and people are losing faith because everything gets worse.

It's a reversal in that most people in 1 have implicit trust in the Arisen and they know you're the Arisen.
In 2, it's the opposite, the Arisen is met with much more distrust, hostility or mere disinterest.
It's less that "the Arisen is unimportant" as the other anon put it, rather the Arisen is in the middle of an eroding Cycle in which a lot of people are far more complacent or seeking their own means to influence the Cycle, so being the Arisen doesn't matter to a lot of them.

Reminder, if your wanting to farm Wyrmslife Crystals in preparation for the DLC you can easily farm 999 for yourself and any pawn for a total of 3996.

Get Bump and Lift, be Thief of Warefarer, equip Ring of Derision and hit the glowing weakpoints of the Red Beacon enemies in the Unmoored. You should get 4 opportunities if you didn't beat Talos and let him die.

Only problem is that Ring of Derision I believe in one time per playthrough and can't be forged.

Two extra skill slots was neat. I'd like two more, though. They could be hot-keyed to L3/R3 unless those functions are for something else entirely. >>747590317
Mages are a bit better in terms of feel. Overall faster spellcasting, especially for the lower tier spells.
You can also shoot bolts and begin casting while levitating, so you can get some extra mobility into your casting.
Weak little staff swing replaced by dedicated Mage Anodyne and a new Sorcerer spell to rapidly recover stamina, so the former always has recovery ready, and the latter can magdump big spells and reload quick.

Not sure what the others are talking about, 2's spells are much meatier, least the heavy duty ones like Meteor/Bolide and Maelstrom. Some of the lesser spells may have more transparent particle effects for the sake of visibility, but most of the spells will still flashbang you up close and DD2's HDR makes the screen go real dark in contrast when fire or lightning are used anywhere other than daytime outdoors.

Didn't most people say the that DD was meh until BBI?
Will this happen to DD2 with the new DLC?
>>
>>747592924
They kind of do, mostly because of the range maybe. Maelstrom range is so tiny compared to before where you can just sweep an entire pack of enemies. Add that you can't manual aim it now and control where you want to drop it for max aoe too. Seism looks and is just a tiny ground fart now. Bolide likes to get stuck on mountains too. Sending a pack of gobbos flying and ragdolling with Frigor never gets old though.
I know these are for balancing but it still feels less impactful overall to me. Unrelated but I also just wanted to say spellhold should have been a core skill.

Saw you can use Emote Dogma mod's "cancel all animations" hotkey to basically have Instant Reset from part 1.
I saw a basic 3 piece combo macro, but you can get more creative of course since you can call any move, assign it to a hotkey, and it does actual damage.

You can even make pawns and NPC repeat moves so use the teleport mod and all 4 can do a group attack on one spot.

Relax.
>Most user reviews are positive and most users didn't do BBI.
Most users didn't even hire a single fucking pawn. Or ever change their main pawn's class. Or even get past the wyrm hunt quests. This is just a silly argument to make.
17% of owners on steam have the achievement for jumping into the Everfall. That means less than 1/5th of people who own the game on steam beat the dragon. If most people didn't even get to that point yet most of those people who did beat Gazer doesn't that tell you that the main game is the filter, not BBI?
>>
>>747614868
How is it silly to say people had fun? It doesn't matter what they did, they rated the game highly. What matters is what they DIDNT do.
>>
>>747615190
>How is it silly to say people had fun?
Please don't argue with a straw man. I'm clearly saying that relying on achievement statistics to argue that nobody played BBI is silly, since they work against your claim. Since 17% of people beat Grigori and 16.5% of people beat Gazer, that means that over 90% of people who beat Grigori beat Gazer. Which certainly seems to indicate that almost everybody who played to that point played a good chunk of BBI.
Pretty much half of people who beat Grigori also beat Daimon 1, which is about the ratio of people who own the game and got to Gran Soren or crafted a fucking item. This would suggest filters earlier in the game. Which it famously has.
>>
>>747615825
You're literally proving my point and you're still being disingenuous because DD1 without BBI exists and you're conveniently ignoring that.
>>

I'm loading into such an extreme option because last I played I was dicking around burning wakestones to get some shitass escort mission completed and I want to load from Inn to get them back. I'll lose like a 2hr play session, but it was mostly goofing off while I collected coins. I am certain I didn't refresh at inn at all so my pawn has yet to be compensated for servicing others.

I'm just playing on my original save. I like starting from the bottom normally but I don't see the need for it; I much prefer having the option to swap to any full leveled class when I need gameplay variety

servers typically compare whatever they have on file against the last time you were *online*. the week is just a timer, it's so players don't spam the server.

that said i have no idea if capcom is doing this or not

You could but it might look like this. It should be fine if you keep the levels controlled on both ends.

the inn update only cares about what hires and returns happened between the last time you did it and the next, it doesn't keep track of what you personally do

You didn't look at it, you looked at some of it and you know it.

you can hire for free anything that's a lower level, you can only freely hire higher level pawns if the owner is in your friends list.
