How did Musashi mog Sekiro?
>>
>>747558658
I don't really think so desu
Early Onimusha has a lot of 'fuck you nigger' direct damage options from magic to guns that can insta delete mobs in an instant even in the later game and red souls+upgrades are much more meaningful
In this entry, most of Musashi's damage is purely defensive and magic is much more limited and there's no offensive items so even with a maxed out character, fighting a bunch of armored mobs in the late game is still as boring and a slog as when you first encounter them
>>
Is the game actually good though? I've been going back and forth on it based on what I've seen.

Kyoto itself kinda sucks and there isn't so much of the whacky tokusatsu mad science feel, it's more a generic 'japaense buddhist hell' vibe

Nah it can actually be difficult. The elite mooks are actually threats. I don't think they have anything with trivial issen timings.
People hyperfixate on the fodder enemies because I guess we're all used to Souls balancing (or the NG faggots are around pretending that their generic enemies are actually difficult), but it's like DMC Marionettes or Bayo Affinities. The basic mobs are just kind of there but the elites can actually kick your teeth in if you're careless.

The constant NG schizoposting made me actually play Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PC for the first time and ngl, i think this is the first game i can genuinely describe as having anger issues.

The enemies aren't as incredibly difficult as i tought and are actually really manageable if you get in the flow the game expects from you, but they are erratic as all fuck and are constantly jumping and moving around, it almost looks like they're trying having a tantrum in the background while you're killing their friends.

I don't find normal encounters in Ninja Gaiden to be that hard. The enemies are aggressive and do tons of damage on MN/UN/whatever but you generally have tools to deal with stuff and it's pretty fun. Where Ninja Gaiden gets infuriating is the boss fights which nobody ever talks about because they're utter garbage. I've beaten multiple of these games on the highest difficulty and I have no idea how most of the bosses work. They pretty much fall into two categories: either the shittiest, worst designed fun vampire that slows the game to a crawl, or you can izuna drop them and there's zero difficulty. Very stark contrast to this game where the mechanics actually work.
>>
>>747572979

>>
>>747572979
Charms and pouches carry over. Main equipment (clothes, swords, gauntlet) get reset. But also red souls and upgrade components don't, so spend all your money on those upgrades. And maybe consumables if you ever use them.

1. Not cracked so they can't play it
2. The game has genuine issues :

>the Kyoto open world is genuinely horrible
>the individual zones's level design is pretty terrible
>the side quests are pure padding bullshit
>no enemy variety, every zone should have had its own enemies if the game wants to force 20h+ of runtime on you
>Benkei 1 should have been Benkei 2
>boss refights in the final zone are again here purely for padding
I like the game, but of lot if its design was very clearly made in a desperate attempt to prolong its runtime to please execs fearing the stupid dollar/hour criticism.

how is carnage mode?
>>
Just finished carnage mode.

I gotta say the combat never really clicked for me. I feel your offensive abilities are always pretty weak so you're always reacting to what the enemies are doing trying to counter appropriately. The oni armaments are the best example of this where the oni weapons in the classic Onimushas had really powerful magic attacks that gave you a turn where you were fully on the offensive. The closest thing here is the spear but it doesn't deal any significant damage in carnage. Even the oni mode is mostly reacting and fishing issen, you don't get any armor and your basic slashes still feel very weak.

I hate to bring up this comparison but Sekiro did the whole parry/counter better as a whole since the way posture works in that game you get greatly rewarded for damaging enemies. Stamina in WotS is just too one dimensional, and Musashi having stamina of his own mostly serves to fuck you over if you ever get stamina broken since you can't block anymore and if you get hit the souls he releases will likely power up the boss.
>>
I KILLED GANRYU

>>
>>747558785
Kind of wish the Oni punch did more stamina damage to weave it into normal attacks more often. As it is, it's just the "break guard" button and not much else.
>>
>>747579314
Not very good.

>>747579320
>I feel your offensive abilities are always pretty weak
This is one of my biggest complaints with combat. I never had any moves at all that felt like I could attack with them to do real damage after out maneuvering an enemy or stunning them. Charged heavy is your best "normal" move and it basically tickles things. On carnage, 3 of them don't even kill anything above the weakest of mooks.

Just bought this game. Thought it would cost me an arm and a leg to get it in my shithole of a country, but was pleasantly surprised by the modest price tag. It even comes with localized audio (not that I would switch from Japanese lol).

The game itself is peak parryslop. Just how I like it. Issen timing is pretty brutal, but deflecting is quite easy against most attacks. It's noticeable that the game borrows ideas from Sekiro combat, but I like what they did to them. For example, the game tells you that deflecting is for bladed attacks, and dodging is for unarmed/grabs. But you can actually dodge bladed attacks and vice versa, it's just less effective. I'm still early in the game and haven't unlocked many moves, but the core gameplay is already very enjoyable.

Oh and it seems to run quite smoothly on my PC. FPS keeps up with the new monitor's 120Hz refresh rate. Although it turns my PC into a heater, but supposedly those are normal temps for this hardware to work under load, so, it's fine, I guess?
>>
Okay , I just finished the game in carnage mode for my first playthrough and it took me 36~ hours

Some points
>Game is too easy on anything but carnage
Even carnage was kinda easy except the some of the bosses, if they make another game they should have a mechanic to counter 2 or even 3 attacking enemies at once so you don't fall asleep
>Some of the best animation work I've ever seen, mocap, face scanning etc

>waaaaaay too many recycled boss fights

>I thought the first portal across the bridge where you get your level 4 upgrades was story locked

I enjoyed the fight a lot, probably more than with it, but I do think making weapons that are so important missable is a bit of a game design flaw

Damn okay I can see why people were complaining about Carnage at Ganryu 3. Bosses are getting incredibly tanky. Felt like I was tickling Benkei 2.

once you understand the frame data behind issen it becomes a lot more approachable and it speeds bosses up a bunch, even if you're not a timing god. and if you ARE a timing god you get rewarded even more. pretty good design.

I mean you'd have to know which attacks are easier to issen. Which you can only really do by trial and error and muscle memory.

Huh? I thought you can only select story or action. Or do you mean it unlocks midway through the game? Can you really count as a carnage "playthrough"? It would only be a carnage playhalfthrough.
>>
>>747602428
No I used a mod to change into carnage at will, I played the first hour on action and I immediately waited for the hard mode mod

I'm still not done with the game but not using heals improve it exponentially. They really should have made a difficulty mode that doesn't let you use heals.

From my experience all oni armaments stagger and generally have i-frames, but they're a far cry from classic oni weapons which had their own separate bars and let you use their magic attacks multiple times so you could mag dump onto even bosses relentlessly.

In WotS you just don't get enough meter for something like that, you have at most two charges that have to be shared between six different weapons that have completely different uses. In classic Onimusha magic attacks where a matter of resource trading whereas here they're far more situational.

Bishamon is yet another example of how much limited offense is WotS, in the originals it was an "I win" button that was limited to the final boss if you bothered with a difficult trial, whereas now it simply gives you larger issen windows; it's fun in its own way, but it's nowhere near the tension relief of having an instakill weapon, you're still interacting with the same mechanics and counter checks, the game just can't bring itself to empower you too much.
>>
>>747609250
>You can cancel everything into parry/deflect/reflex dodge/issen.
Objectively wrong. A lot of recovery states can only be early canceled with dodges.

Yes, and it makes me wonder why they didn't do something similar with the other sword skins.

Imagine if the other swords had modifiers like
>deals more health damage
>deals more stamina damage
>releases more souls
>gains more blaze state
>procs fire
They even had Raizan and Enryu skins for the deluxe edition but to my knowledge they don't do anything special either.

It could've been so much more interesting than what we got. Even changing your attack animations isn't too unfeasable as long as you're still using a sword for all the parry animations.

not that guy but magic orbs recharge all weapons equally in the older games and they aren't decreased at all

Yeah but they're gaining levels through the usage of said magic meter. Why the fuck would that not be shared?
Even the dragon orbs have a different exp pool from the oni weapons, and the weapons are obtained the same time that you get the orbs. You'd think they'd be linked, but no, they aren't.

also they're not gaining levels through using magic meters
>>
>>747613446
I'm arguing that the acquisition of exp being separate means that they aren't inextricably linked, so it makes little sense that the mana pool is linked.
Think of it this way, you perceive them being able to get their mana restored as though it's one big ole barrel of mana they're all pulling from. I'm saying it's more like each weapon has its own flask of mana that they pull from.

What the fuck are you talking about? It's a guardbreak bar dude, you get punished for passive blocking. That's the point. Literally the secret to this kind of character. Make them speaking rather little and feel helpful. But fuckers can't control themselves and have a quippy fuck talking your ears off 24/7. Capcom showed a lot of restraint here. Okuni is bratty and abrasive, but also earnest and caring. Musashi is a braggart and a loudmouth, but he's also disciplined and dedicated. Doukyou is a cackling lunatic, but also incredibly vicious and callous.

Shit could have gone wrongs in so many places, but they knew when to pull back. A real masterclass.

Also, Shikibu is waifu.

Also, Musashi is prime "upstaged by others, likely a woman" material, but he's pretty solidly shown as just a genuinely great swordsman who only gets "upstaged" because his enemies are actually demons from hell, the only single, Gauntletless human that's actually on his level is Takamura, who has had 700 years to build muscle and hone his swordmanship.

I find the whole difficulty discussion very silly, not only it's largely subjective but it also depends on the person's experience with similar games, or just games in general.
For example, many shmup players will say video related isn't too hard to clear with 1 credit, while for most people it seems like an incredible feat few can achieve.

I would say this Onimusha is more tightly designed and overall harder than the classic titles, and definitely more challenging than most AAA action games we have now.

He was pretty abrasive with him in the beginning but it's obvious they have history and i think Musashi genuinely enjoys having sword duels with the guy.
So he just gets more and more disappointed that Ganryu was going down this monstrous path.

RT in this game is only for reflections by default.

>>747616792
RenoDX fixes the black levels but the lighting in the game isn't amazing. It's using probe GI but that combined with overbright fog kind of gives everything a weird ambient glow. And then some objects like breakable pots just don't obey lighting properly at all.

It's kind of funny. RE9 and MH: Wilds were mid but Pragmata and this game are great. Capcom should give their main IPs a rest for a bit.

It's obvious nowadays the issue isn't the developers but the fucking general audience

Does the game change to max settings during cutscenes? cause I'm playing on mid/low and cutscenes look really gud

Is musashi like 5’3

cutscenes have better models/lighting. this a ancient technique that's been used since the PS2.

Historically he was considered very tall for the time and by records was around the 6 foot mark.
This might just be him getting gassed up as history passed however since this would mean Ganryu would be even larger since he is believed to be taller and broader than Musashi due to him easily wielding an odachi.
Could very well be that Musashi was tall but not 6 foot tall IRL.

Pretty sure it's different models. I think for a while Capcom has had gameplay models and then cutscene models.
>>
>>747616792
No NVIDIA sponsorship this time, it seems. So I guess they developed it around the Switch version as the baseline and worked their way up from there, with the PS5 version essentially being the ceiling.
>>
>>747620332
afaik, historical records mostly put him around 5'10, which is pretty short nowadays, but would be unusually tall for the era musashi was born in

Really? I haven't played Monster Hunter, but I felt like the other Capcom games all had pacing issues, IMO. RE9 felt like they took a half-finished horror RE and merged it with a half-finished action RE. Pragmata felt like a 2 hour demo stretched out into a 10 hour game. Onimusha was a solid 6 hour action game that got dragged out to 20 hours, etc.

I mean, I played and enjoyed all of them, but the pacing definitely held them back. Personally, in terms of overall enjoyment, I'd rank them RE9 > Onimusha >>> Pragmata.

I'm at the very end of carnage and just need to kill Yoshitsune and then rematch him and I've 100%'d the game. It's definitely hard, but I don't like the way carnage is hard. I liked doing charmless demon bell runs on Sekiro much more.

No, I also prefer English. When they first showcased the game I thought to myself "lol first thing im doing is switching to Japanese", even upon starting the game I thought I was gonna really hate musashis VA but it grew on me and I ended up playing through to the end that way.
The arrogance in his voice suits his demeanor throughout the game. The Japanese VA sounds too chill to me.

Isn't Ganryu's head and body deep down in the depths of hell?

That'll be the final boss of This Onimusha series where Musashi rows down the Sanzu river to confront some demon god Ganryu who grafted his head on Takamura or something and cleaves his ass apart with his giant oar sword.

If you guys care to know more about Ganryu, there's actually an official prequel webcomic focusing on Ganryu a bit before and during the events of the game. You also get to see him and Gioh interact before her corruption happens.
This also has Musashi bonking Ganryu over the head with the boat oar.

Different Genma i guess?
The Genma in Way of the Sword are inspired by japanese folklore and have japanese names, something that the original games' Genma pointedly didn't have to contrast them with the mostly good Japanese Oni.

We might see silly robots if Dokyo's race is expnded upon tho.
>>
>>747625347
What could this possibly mean?
>>
>>747621049
I think it's just that they were targeting a locked 60 FPS on PS5 and didn't want to do anything extraneous. The extra RT features short of pathtracing are included in the game and that's how mods are adding those effects, but the game isn't designed for that at all because some areas are almost unlit.

Something that it does make me think about though is how reactionary faggots on /v/ are always complaining about diminishing returns in graphics and how they think graphics plateaued 10 years ago or whatever. But you look at this game where the cutscenes are beautiful and the actual game isn't quite there and we clearly need advancements in rendering that could bridge that gap. There's still juice left to squeeze.

Do they ever mix it up, judging by the upgrades my gear need the answer seems to be no.
>>
>>747630005
this entire section was ass
the only good thing about it is it only happens once
>>
Is there enough resources in the game to max out everything in a single playthrough? Do you need to/can you farm upgrade materials?
