I only ever had one base which was in the security room with the shutters. Navigating this game is pretty fun so I never felt the need to move bases but I did set up little outposts and eventually hook up portals.
I'm not playing this game again until you can go to Anteverse 33.
>>747554526I had a base in the starting area for awhile, then moved into gym and office above the pool. It was great cause the ai could only get to you through the locker room so it was super easy to defend with a few battery powered turrets. I don't think I even bothered with portals as it wasn't that annoying to drive or take the trains to most places.
>>747554526I stayed in the gym overnight once, but then found the area above the datafarm, and never moved out. It's so spacious and easy to defend. In fact, I never even needed to defend it. Only the power leaches ever spawned.
>>747553674The game definitely suffered if you played it all in one go after 1.0 came out, I bet if I played it as it came out in early access it wouldn't have felt like such a drag towards the end. Though I might have quit the game after the area that throws tons of tough enemies at you without ever getting better weaponry to defeat them with.
>>747556331I did that early on too and got tired of moving bases since it was actually a huge pain in the ass having to cart shit back and forth. I considered a lot of areas during the rest of my playthrough, but the security room was giga comfy since it's like sprucing up a l4d safe room. I used console commands to delete the lockers and made that room into a nice kitchen/dining room.
>>747556484Also, I just remembered how bad the final boss was, a giant bullet sponge with no hit animation so you couldn't tell if you were damaging it? Then the ending is that the obviously evil character that's been guiding you reveals he's evil and been guiding you to do his job for him? Wow.
Progression, pacing and busywork are this game's main problems. Once you hit reactors it feels like opening a door and immediately running into another locked door you have to spend X minutes grinding and crafting to make a key, only to open that door and run face first into another locked door. It just becomes tedium that sucked away all the fun I had in the first half of the game.
It's probably more fun with friends.... I wish I had one to play it with....
How does the Portal Toilet work? Where do I get the laser?
>>747557461Personally it started feeling like shit at hydro but reactors straight up bored me to death, yea.
>>747556484I've done a few playthroughs with a dedicated group, we mix things up by trying out weird character builds and making bases in new areas we havent used before. The final boss is still a slog, even after the update. But at least it's got mechanics that feel a little more involved now and a shield you have to break before you damage it proper.
The lobby is way too convenient as a base location. Every fast travel opportunity takes you back there. There is very little reason to build even small outposts anywhere else, apart from "I just like building outposts".
>>747558926It has no personality.

>>747553674>Offices = great>Manufacturing = breddy gud>Labs = Absolute fucking kino best part of the game>Security = kinda meh, but at least it's short>Hydro = my favorite despite Labs being better, quite fun>Reactors = starts off interesting but quickly becomes a slog, some neat areas though>Residence = incredibly phoned in, decent the first time but almost unplayable on repeat visitsDid the original team quit or get fired or something because I don't understand how you go from absolute kino in the early sections to wading through waist high dog shit towards the end. They needed to either make more interesting weapons or buff the existing ones because there's literally no reason to use anything other than the Deatomizer. They also need to make sure you're getting upgrades when they're actually useful. The null grenade is probably the best example of this. An encounter or two without is fine, but making you do an entire section without it and then when you do eventually get them, you aren't really fighting shielded GATE guys any more.
