It's hard in that the damage values are severe, so Krauser can kill you in two hits even with near max health during his boss fight.

I played the original RE4 on Gamecube with the weak version of the knife that does like 25% the damage of the knife in all other versions of the game and I still had quite a bit of excess ammo left despite always shooting things to death. Playing on any other version and knifing enemies you knock down would save even more, you would probably have like two times the ammo i had for every weapon.
