What makes a game truly "great"?
What games would you say fall into that category?
>>
A great game is a game I can jerk off to
>>
games i like = great
games i dislike = shit

for every great game there will be tons of haters (me). there isnt a single general great game without flaws or haters

I would say Deus Ex is the closest to a “””flawless””” game that I’ve played so far. But is it the greatest game I’ve ever played? The most ambitious? Even the most technically astounding? No. Greatness (in terms of vidya) goes beyond how flawless a game is, I think

Subjective judgement, the difference is that normal people recognize this fact and also know that others might think differently so they don't project their thoughts and turn them into absolute truths, they are also able to question themselves.
Egocentric maniacs, on the other hand, make up lies to justify and validate their opinion, for instance let's say someone didn't enjoy dark souls (which would obviously belong in a potential list of great games due to unique design and massive influence, it's really nothing new and original but it's the first game to do it like that), instead of saying "well I didn't like dark souls, it's just not for me" they would say "only fat no-life losers like darksouls and animerollslop, anyone who says otherwise is also a retard"

You define the field as relative to individual perspectives while accusing the egocentric of appealing to absolute truth.

A game that not only has decent components(music, story, gameplay etc) but manages to seamlessly tie them together into a greater whole. It's not about what the game does but how it executes it.
As for some examples, Red Alert 2, MGR and World of Goo come to mind, all do a good job at making a complete picture with what they have.

Story, cutscenes and memes

Atmosphere. Atmosphere is the single most important thing. Even if a game has dogshit gameplay, if it has strong atmosphere, you can put up with anything (ex. VTM Bloodlines)

the games I personally like.
