The japanese are finally giving Metroid a chance.[bad news] They find it difficult
crazy that all it took to draw attention to the franchise was a good trailer in a empty Direct. Nintendo might finally realize that good marketing matters.
it's bullshit
>twitter thread: />twitter thread, japan:O
It is weird. Americans have the lowest of lows in terms of how stupid players can be but also the highest of highs. Japanese are smarter ON AVERAGE than most Americans but compare to the smartest of American gamers they may as well be retarded. It make sense they are smarter on average given America literally put lead into our gas. You know, the literal poison that rot the mind that we knew was doing such since the medieval times? The part that doesn't make sense to me is how we have basically natural born geniuses after the fact that make Japanese look so fucking stupid. Making the mercury in the fish is finally catching up to them and outdoing our self inflected lead poisonings?
>>747562305They are intellectually intelligent but humanly stupid.
>>747562070I don't get it.Were people not aware of Dread?I can't remember how it was advertised when it was released.
>>747562470The trailers for Dread didn't look particularly appealing, and it wasn't until people actually played it that it began to be considered a good game. And I suppose that the Game Awards have no influence at all in sales
>>747561954>finally got the "timing" right heh
>>747561954Wall jump in super was made bad on purpose so no one discovered it by accident, the timing makes no sense, you gotta press the jump button when you have already left the wall
>>747561954
>>747561954I actually discovered this one on my own
>>747564182Samus became a metroid, so we all owe Pauly an apology.
Game companies made no money back then because, surprise, most games fucking sucked
>>747562305Jap's are hyper min maxed. Whatever they take an interest in, they will destroy you but anything they are just casually into, they will do worse.
>>747561954>>747562198>>747564131>>747564272You definitely did a wall jump on accident by this point in the game, and if you somehow hadn't, the little guys made sounds and showed you how to jump. Also, breaking the glass was intuitive as well. It's the only screen like that in the entire game so I kept going back to it when I got new shit. Played this shit as a 5 or 6 year old, btw.
>>747564131you are retarded and so is everyone else getting filtered by the tiniest modicum of depth to the controlssamus has the be spinning (which happens when you jump in a direction with momentum) and she has to be facing away from the wallif you actually pay attention to her sprite you can see when she's facing away from the wall after you press the opposite direction and THAT is when you jumpinstead of all the shallow bullshit of literally every other game where you just press jump as soon as you touch the wall and the game plays itself for yousuper metroid wall jumps are amazing because it's impossible to do one on accident and it also gives you full control over your movement, to the point you can just walljump up a single wall if you're good enoughit has DEPTHit takes just a bit of practice to get right but that makes it more FUN and gay ass nigger faggot modern gamers can't handle actually PLAYING a fucking video game that gives you actual control over your fucking character it's so embarrassingdread redeems itself simply because the game controls so smoothly otherwise, and because they actually added something new to the speedbooster with being able to preserve it through walljumps which is fun as fuck and lets you 180 your direction at top speedeven then the super metroid speedbooster is still more versatile and smooth
>>747564560I didnt get filtered or said that as a criticismKill yourself retard
>>747562470I think it’s a psychological thing. When Dread came out, most people probably thought something like this:>Huh? A new game after 20 years? The franchise must be bad if they didn't release games more often. But now people think:>Wow, this franchise is releasing new games quite frequently; it must be good! I have to jump on the bandwagon.
>>747564259Technically they made it so Samus was a metroid from the first game, now that they established that "metroid" is "great warrior" in Chozo.Covered all their bases in Dread.
>>747564704dread is the first big original release metroid had in 20 fucking years, it being high quality and having good word of mouth means not only that all of the 3+million people who bought it are looking forward to the next one, but they all probably told at least one person that it was goodsequels to games with good word of mouth always explode in popularity regardless of quality, and Ravenous had such a fucking awesome trailer that I would almost guarantee that it's going to outsell dread even on the switch 2's much smaller install baseespecially since it's coming out after Christmas and OOT remake is making everyone want a switch 2 who doesn't have it already
>>747562470the trailer for Dread had boring music and was edited a bit awkwardly
>>747562470The interesting parts of dred were the shit you only saw if you played it, which is samus screaming and going feral. That is all in the ravenous trailer so newcomers have some interest. Otherwise the games look like ugly low budget metroidvanias of which there are infinite.
>>747564182look I am retarded for engagement. The root problem of the modern internet is that you can make money with it.
>>747562198While the solution isn't as telegraphed as well as it could've been, you definitely get environmental hints if you take the Wrecked Ship's forgotten highway to Maridia. That path funnels you back down to this area and shows you a broken tube nearby. In a "first" playthrough, it's probable that the player, once getting the gravity suit, will want to explore the right side of the wrecked ship that was previously inaccessible due to the water blocking their access up that wall, and would discover this alternative path to Maridia and subsequently the path back down to the tubes. The execution wasn't perfect since even after that the player may not understand that the tube can be broken, but the game design is still a masterclass. It's the little shit like that which the vast majority of games can't touch.
japan hates metroid because they rightfully understand that they're boring, casualized action games that replaces good level design with empty hallwayswesterners like it because they like slop
>>747561954It took 40 years but Metroid finally has fans outside of Smash Bros players.
>>747561954this is understandable because it's harder to input on modern controllers that the game wasn't built for>>747562198this requires a critical lack of human curiosity to miss
>>747562198>Be a retarded little 5 year old when I first played Super Metroid.>Get the Power Bombs.>Test one and it nukes the whole room and the wall behind the statue that was holding them.>"woooow coooooool">Proceed to drop one in nearly every room I can to see what happens.>Very shortly afterwards have a broken tube.
>>747562070All it took was a Rider Kick
>>747564182>y cant metroid crawlFucking casuals, get OFF MY LAWN.
>>747562470Dread is simply not an appealing game. It’s boring. The worst of the main line entries.
JP are omega casuals especially in online games
>>747564182Reminder that Pauly beat the game
>>747564560His point was that the walljump in SM was hard to figure out because it was there as a sort of secret that opened up the game and allowed for more variety of progression in subsequent playthroughs. It doesnt make any sense to make it awkward and hard to pull off because people already expect the walljump to be in these games. It was hard in super because they didnt want you to discover or figure it out early on.
>>747561954but...it's a japanese game
>>747567205Yeah! Pauly
>>747567290It's one of those Japanese IPs that for whatever reason is only able to gain traction overseas. Historically, you couldn't pay a Japanese person to care about Metroid. Nobody's entirely sure why, either. Something something Alien inspiration, something motion sickness, whatever.
>>747567290There's a lot nip made games that nips don't give a shit about but yankies like (F-Zero, Metroid, and Sanic for example)
>>747567218NTA but you are 100% retarded and are absolutely just pulling literal shit out of your asshole. As an example, wall jumps didn't really exist back then except for Mega Man X. If you are "from the future" and you've played all the wall jump games where you just hold towards the wall and press jump, yes, you might think retarded things because you dumbed your brain down with games from the gay and cucked future. But back then, it was a pretty new concept. And the animals show you how to do it. Plus, if you just fucking watch the animation of Samus, if you hold forward towards the wall and then press away from the wall, you can see the animation change and where you should be able to press the jump button. Honestly, the hard part of wall jumps is not figuring them out. It was actually performing them, because you need to press left and then right, without pressing down. No other games of the era (except fighting games) really required controls this precise.
>>747561954Wall jumps in super Metroid feel like shit and always have t. Replaying the game
>>747564182I miss Miiverse so much bros...
>>747567703Yep. Fusion and Zero Mission did it better. Fuck the sacred cow right up it's ass. Super Metroid is a great game, and we should be allowed to acknowledge its flaws. Like its floaty gravity and jank ass inventory.
>>747562198>>747566808AAAAAAAAAAAFUCKYOU FUCKING DUMBASSES NEVER LEARNEVERYONEFUCKINGKNEWTOUSEPOWER BOMBSWHEN THEY RETURNED THEREWITH POWER BOMBSTHE ISSUE IS THAT NOTHING ABOUT THE TUBE IS TELEGRAPHED AS BEING BREAKABLE AS TO STICK OUT IN YOUR MIND TO RETURN THERELIKEEVERYTHINGELSEINMETROIDISTHAT'S WHY THEY HAD TO PUT IT ON THE PATH BACK TO NORFAIRTHEY KNEW THAT NO ONE WOULD REMEMBER ITTHEY KNEW YOU'D HAVE ALL THE OTHER DOORS AND BLOCKS IN BRINSTAR AND CRATERIA YOU'D USE THEM ON FIRST AND NOT EVEN REMEMBER THE TUBE AFTER BOMBS, MISSILES, AND SUPER MISSILES DID NOTHING AND IT WASN'T COLOR/SYMBOL-CODED LIKE EVERY OTHER THING IN METROID
I never had any problem with the wall jumps
>>747568070Fusion and Zero Mission absolutely did not make walljumps better, they made them useless.
>>747568070>Like its floaty gravityGee it's almost like the game takes place on a low gravity planet
>>747568085>THEY KNEW THAT NO ONE WOULD REMEMBER ITBro, every single person remembered the tube. Zoomers are literal retards, I fucking swear.
>>747568070See the gravity I don't mind in the inventory while not amazing is t offensively bad, but every game past super made wall jumps *feel* better
>>747568456How did they feel better? They were way less useful.
>>747564793The furtive fusion, so easily forgotten
>>747567025This, but the opposite. Dread's the only 2D Metroid game that can hold a candle to Super Metroid.
>>747567459Good japanese ips get zero traction in japan and do well overseas. Soulslikes would not exist without the west. Shit japanese ips do well in japan only.
>>747568702Other than bossfights dread is kind of mid. It is severely bad at art because of the black background. You are traveling through intestines the whole game. The music is also the worst in the entire series. With such negatives it doesn't stack up to zero mission and super. I could see putting it on par with fusion because it is a similarly mixed bag.
>>747561954I think I got stuck here for an hour the first time I played it
>>747564182>I am stuffed and I don't know where to godave... easy on the burgers...
>>747562470Dread sold itself terribly with the trailer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tYzveufd9QIt just looked like it wasn't terrible and you gave it a try for being a new Metroid after so long. The game gets a lot better as you advance, you learn that the weird sound they used in the trailer was the warning of incoming death instead of boring music, enemies, bosses and cutscenes get better later. So there was more hype after release than before and didn't attract people that hadn't played Metroid or many other metroidvanias.Ravenous trailer is very explosive in a very boring direct, so it's attracting people that doesn't know.
>>747568597Did they establish that in Fusion? I may not remember, didn't really like that game as much so I only played it once a long time ago.
>>747567205Impossible... how did he manage without yellow paint and a chatty companion that solves puzzles for you?
>>747562070this, the trailer just looked really cool. thats literally all you need to make people interested in a game.
>>747564182New generations getting introduced to older games used to be so wholesome. Feel like every-time interest in older games gets rekindled it just introduces more aids. What happened?
>>747568334>it's shit on purpose so it's cool
>>747567676don't forget that modern controllers all have dogshit dpads that give you diagonal inputs, which kills your ability to walljump in super metroid unless you figure out to take your thumb OFF the shit dpad and hit the other direction instead of rolling your thumb naturally, which is what you can do on a non dogshit dpad like the snesthank god nintendo is selling the snes controller again in the modern era, I use it on PC and my switch for basically every 2d game I can
>>747570204the power of friendship
>Enter Maridia through the Wrecked Ship.>It is a completely linear path, the only branch leads to the Shaktool/Spring Ball dead end.>The linear path eventually funnels you into a room with a broken tube, extremely noticeable as the only other instance of those hatches in the entire game, and the hatches show signs of damage.>Immediately after the broken tube is a map room, which reveals there's stuff directly above and below the tube room, and due to the way the map is laid out there is no other possible way to access the below stuff except through the tube room.>And then a few rooms later the linear path drops you right next to the tube room.>"how was i supposed to know i could do something in the tube room?"
>>747570895>don't forget that modern controllers all have dogshit dpads that give you diagonal inputs, which kills your ability to walljump in super metroidI'm talking about my own ability as a kid to wall jump. My (official) SNES controllers had the "issue" where I would get diagonal inputs or down or whatever while wall jumping. Not troublesome when doing a single wall jump, but troublesome in that one column where the animals show you how to wall jump. I also was a kid though and wasn't used to needing to do precise inputs. I have a much easier time doing Super Metroid wall jumps as an adult on a PS4 controller. Still though, if I could do it and figure it out as a 5 or 6 year old, there's no reason grown adults can't figure it out in 2026.
>>747567676Im not sure how is that incompatible with what i said. The etecoons are there as a sort of tutorial but they can be perfectly missed, in which case the odds you will actually learn how to walljump will be very low, because even if you pull it off by accident, its too obtuse to stop and try for long before just movong on with something else.
>>747570538>What happened? That Super Metroid image is from 2012.
>>747561954You are downright retarded if you can't figure out wall jumping in Super Metroid. The timing is incredibly forgiving and even has visual cues.
>>747571743If you don't understand, I'm not going to bother explaining it. It's clearly a lost cause.
>>747571836This, what actually sucks is screw attacking jumping cause it has none of that.
>>747567459Metroid just doesn't fit the flavor of sci-fi that the Japanese are generally into. They like their big grand space operas.
>>747570878Shoot yourself in the head
>>747564478Doing the walk jumps was one thing, but the little passage off to the right you obviously want to try and get into..
>>747571675there's no difference between adults and children, adults are just children that feel like they have justification for being entitled retards because they're "adult"people who don't treat video games like that toys to be played with that they are and just expect to be given everything with no effort don't deserve to breathe the same air as people with triple digit IQs
>>747564182>y can't metroid crawlMy fucking sides, holy shit.Alright, I hereby declare the future of mankind officially over. It's obvious that we're just getting dumber each new generation, there's no stopping this wheel that has been set in motion. And now, with AI, people are going to get even dumber at a much faster rate.
>>747561954Shameful display
>>747562070Good. It's time for Takeshi to detox from his mobage chores.
games were harder back then but it wasn't always 'good difficulty'this was the era when a lot of money could be made selling game guidesdevelopers would stick in all kinds of dumb shit to try to get people stuck so they had to buy guidesthe invention of gamefaqs changed the entire dynamic of all of that
>>747564182Unironically a good example of Miiverse fulfilling its main purpose.
>>747562305Fun fact: you’re a retarded third worlder and no amount of being a self-loathing Uncle Ruckus towards your idolized Japanese gods is ever going to make you one of them.
>>747566098>The interesting parts of dred were the [I'm a woman hear me ROAR!]
Not to be one of "those" guys, but the timing was way easier to get on a CRT.
>>747573569True, but wall-jumping is still easy on emulation and not nearly as sensitive as other shit like quick charging.
>>747572378You say that, but space operas are dying off in Japan as well. I Woke Up As A Space Mercenary is the best we got right now, and even its still an isekai. That said, I'd commit some not inconsiderable crimes to get a game that's basically Outer Worlds but Metroid. Make it 80s/90s as fuck too, why not.
>>747569342The game only demands you pull off like one wall jump to escape, whilst climbing the entire thing followed by a mid-air morph rewards you with an upgrade item.Super Metroid wall-jumping is janky though, I play SM rando a shitton and I still get failed wall jumps periodically.
How the fuck do people find the wall jumps so hard? Was the snes controller just shit? I played Super Metroid for the 1st time last year on a snes emulator using a PS4 controller and I had zero issue doing wall jumps
>>747568085>>747562198You didn't beat the game and you're addicted to pornography
I am not gonna sit here and pretend that the wall jump mechanic isn't massively improved by later entries.
