crazy that all it took to draw attention to the franchise was a good trailer in a empty Direct. Nintendo might finally realize that good marketing matters.

It is weird. Americans have the lowest of lows in terms of how stupid players can be but also the highest of highs. Japanese are smarter ON AVERAGE than most Americans but compare to the smartest of American gamers they may as well be retarded. It make sense they are smarter on average given America literally put lead into our gas. You know, the literal poison that rot the mind that we knew was doing such since the medieval times? The part that doesn't make sense to me is how we have basically natural born geniuses after the fact that make Japanese look so fucking stupid. Making the mercury in the fish is finally catching up to them and outdoing our self inflected lead poisonings?

You definitely did a wall jump on accident by this point in the game, and if you somehow hadn't, the little guys made sounds and showed you how to jump.

Also, breaking the glass was intuitive as well. It's the only screen like that in the entire game so I kept going back to it when I got new shit. Played this shit as a 5 or 6 year old, btw.

>>747564131
you are retarded and so is everyone else getting filtered by the tiniest modicum of depth to the controls

samus has the be spinning (which happens when you jump in a direction with momentum) and she has to be facing away from the wall
if you actually pay attention to her sprite you can see when she's facing away from the wall after you press the opposite direction and THAT is when you jump
instead of all the shallow bullshit of literally every other game where you just press jump as soon as you touch the wall and the game plays itself for you
super metroid wall jumps are amazing because it's impossible to do one on accident and it also gives you full control over your movement, to the point you can just walljump up a single wall if you're good enough

it has DEPTH
it takes just a bit of practice to get right but that makes it more FUN and gay ass nigger faggot modern gamers can't handle actually PLAYING a fucking video game that gives you actual control over your fucking character
it's so embarrassing

dread redeems itself simply because the game controls so smoothly otherwise, and because they actually added something new to the speedbooster with being able to preserve it through walljumps which is fun as fuck and lets you 180 your direction at top speed
even then the super metroid speedbooster is still more versatile and smooth
>>
>>747564560
I didnt get filtered or said that as a criticism
Kill yourself retard
>>
>>747562470
I think it’s a psychological thing. When Dread came out, most people probably thought something like this:
>Huh? A new game after 20 years? The franchise must be bad if they didn't release games more often.
But now people think:
>Wow, this franchise is releasing new games quite frequently; it must be good! I have to jump on the bandwagon.
>>
>>747564259
Technically they made it so Samus was a metroid from the first game, now that they established that "metroid" is "great warrior" in Chozo.
Covered all their bases in Dread.
>>
>>747564704
dread is the first big original release metroid had in 20 fucking years, it being high quality and having good word of mouth means not only that all of the 3+million people who bought it are looking forward to the next one, but they all probably told at least one person that it was good
sequels to games with good word of mouth always explode in popularity regardless of quality, and Ravenous had such a fucking awesome trailer that I would almost guarantee that it's going to outsell dread even on the switch 2's much smaller install base
especially since it's coming out after Christmas and OOT remake is making everyone want a switch 2 who doesn't have it already
>>
>>747562470
the trailer for Dread had boring music and was edited a bit awkwardly
>>
>>747562470
The interesting parts of dred were the shit you only saw if you played it, which is samus screaming and going feral. That is all in the ravenous trailer so newcomers have some interest. Otherwise the games look like ugly low budget metroidvanias of which there are infinite.
>>
>>747564182
look I am retarded for engagement. The root problem of the modern internet is that you can make money with it.
>>
>>747562198
While the solution isn't as telegraphed as well as it could've been, you definitely get environmental hints if you take the Wrecked Ship's forgotten highway to Maridia. That path funnels you back down to this area and shows you a broken tube nearby. In a "first" playthrough, it's probable that the player, once getting the gravity suit, will want to explore the right side of the wrecked ship that was previously inaccessible due to the water blocking their access up that wall, and would discover this alternative path to Maridia and subsequently the path back down to the tubes. The execution wasn't perfect since even after that the player may not understand that the tube can be broken, but the game design is still a masterclass. It's the little shit like that which the vast majority of games can't touch.
>>
japan hates metroid because they rightfully understand that they're boring, casualized action games that replaces good level design with empty hallways
westerners like it because they like slop
>>
>>747561954
It took 40 years but Metroid finally has fans outside of Smash Bros players.

this is understandable because it's harder to input on modern controllers that the game wasn't built for

His point was that the walljump in SM was hard to figure out because it was there as a sort of secret that opened up the game and allowed for more variety of progression in subsequent playthroughs.

It doesnt make any sense to make it awkward and hard to pull off because people already expect the walljump to be in these games. It was hard in super because they didnt want you to discover or figure it out early on.

It's one of those Japanese IPs that for whatever reason is only able to gain traction overseas. Historically, you couldn't pay a Japanese person to care about Metroid. Nobody's entirely sure why, either. Something something Alien inspiration, something motion sickness, whatever.

>>
>>747567218
NTA but you are 100% retarded and are absolutely just pulling literal shit out of your asshole.

As an example, wall jumps didn't really exist back then except for Mega Man X. If you are "from the future" and you've played all the wall jump games where you just hold towards the wall and press jump, yes, you might think retarded things because you dumbed your brain down with games from the gay and cucked future. But back then, it was a pretty new concept. And the animals show you how to do it. Plus, if you just fucking watch the animation of Samus, if you hold forward towards the wall and then press away from the wall, you can see the animation change and where you should be able to press the jump button.

Honestly, the hard part of wall jumps is not figuring them out. It was actually performing them, because you need to press left and then right, without pressing down. No other games of the era (except fighting games) really required controls this precise.

Other than bossfights dread is kind of mid. It is severely bad at art because of the black background. You are traveling through intestines the whole game. The music is also the worst in the entire series. With such negatives it doesn't stack up to zero mission and super. I could see putting it on par with fusion because it is a similarly mixed bag.

Dread sold itself terribly with the trailer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tYzveufd9Q
It just looked like it wasn't terrible and you gave it a try for being a new Metroid after so long.
The game gets a lot better as you advance, you learn that the weird sound they used in the trailer was the warning of incoming death instead of boring music, enemies, bosses and cutscenes get better later.
So there was more hype after release than before and didn't attract people that hadn't played Metroid or many other metroidvanias.
Ravenous trailer is very explosive in a very boring direct, so it's attracting people that doesn't know.
>>
>>747568597
Did they establish that in Fusion? I may not remember, didn't really like that game as much so I only played it once a long time ago.

don't forget that modern controllers all have dogshit dpads that give you diagonal inputs, which kills your ability to walljump in super metroid unless you figure out to take your thumb OFF the shit dpad and hit the other direction instead of rolling your thumb naturally, which is what you can do on a non dogshit dpad like the snes

>Enter Maridia through the Wrecked Ship.
>It is a completely linear path, the only branch leads to the Shaktool/Spring Ball dead end.
>The linear path eventually funnels you into a room with a broken tube, extremely noticeable as the only other instance of those hatches in the entire game, and the hatches show signs of damage.
>Immediately after the broken tube is a map room, which reveals there's stuff directly above and below the tube room, and due to the way the map is laid out there is no other possible way to access the below stuff except through the tube room.
>And then a few rooms later the linear path drops you right next to the tube room.

>don't forget that modern controllers all have dogshit dpads that give you diagonal inputs, which kills your ability to walljump in super metroid
I'm talking about my own ability as a kid to wall jump. My (official) SNES controllers had the "issue" where I would get diagonal inputs or down or whatever while wall jumping. Not troublesome when doing a single wall jump, but troublesome in that one column where the animals show you how to wall jump. I also was a kid though and wasn't used to needing to do precise inputs. I have a much easier time doing Super Metroid wall jumps as an adult on a PS4 controller.

Still though, if I could do it and figure it out as a 5 or 6 year old, there's no reason grown adults can't figure it out in 2026.
>>
>>747567676
Im not sure how is that incompatible with what i said. The etecoons are there as a sort of tutorial but they can be perfectly missed, in which case the odds you will actually learn how to walljump will be very low, because even if you pull it off by accident, its too obtuse to stop and try for long before just movong on with something else.
