What are your hot takes on the genre?
>>
Because of social identity and freedom of choice, an MMO will be the most played game when we're all playing games together.

>Blizzard.
When does the woke stop? Surely there's a timeline where body 1 and 2 are ludicrous, women's bodies are appreciated in art, and male-on-male sexuality is rejected as non-normal.

I love GW2 and my only issue is the shitty UI for 4k screens. It's showing its age by now but I still loved all the hours I put in and I'm pretty stoked for GW3
>>
>>747564119
I did play retail WoW for a month and I'm back to GW2 now, the difference is shocking, it's 100x better visually, WoW really did age like shit graphics wise
>>
>>747564029
the most real take is we need more sexy bitches in mmos
>>
>>747563289
not really a hot take, but it doesn't really have a good place in a modern age. "modern" age being post 2020s and even 2010s it was on the decline. it's simply not that interesting of a concept anymore

my hot take is that Puzzle Pirates was unironically the most technically impressive and most balanced MMO of all fucking time

>endgame content literally just takes an hour to reach
>actually takes fucking skill to play
>skill-based ranking
>raids with 45-60 players, they all have a job to do with different puzzles and mechanics
>player-run shops
>clan-run islands (who could tax shops in them for war coffers)
>clans could challenge eachother for control of those islands
>PvP and PvE is fun and scales in difficulty (harder places get better loot)

fuuuuuuuuck it was so good, it was so well designed and it had a slight revitalization in 2020 but it doesn't have that many players, people still play but it's just a glorified chatroom now

How do you not think doing things in front of thousands of players puts you on the edge of your seat? In an MMO, you can do anything, be anybody, and meet anybody. You can fill the role of a blacksmith and a clothier and an enchanter, crafting the best equipment and disenchanting it for shards to enchant equipment, trading to be the richest and most powerful person in the realm. An MMO is any other genre but with thousands of simultaneous players. It's as good as you make it.

It looks 100x better than WoW shitty graphics tho, like it's not even comparable, even retail is stuck in the past (and the gameplay is more fun too btw)

How did the French manage to make the best MMORPG of 2026?

Secret World was the best MMO setting ever.
>>
The best MMOs currently on the market are OSRS and Eve online (despite the devs constant attempt to self sabotage in the case of Eve.
The entire design of MMOs like WoW with their vertical progression has been judged and found wanting. There's just no staying power and it always eventually devolves into being essentially seasonal. And the MMO's simply can't compete with games like Path of Exile when it comes to being seasonal.

I think people vastly underrate how important it is for MMOs to have economic engagement from the players. People kill bosses in OSRS even when they don't need the gear because they can then sell that gear. People will fly worse ships in Eve because when they die, they lose their ship, and they don't want to lose their best ship. Basing your game around its internal economy simply gives an MMO a hugely increased amount of staying power. You no longer simply stop doing certain content because you have everything.

>Eve online
I don't quite understand the appeal of this because it feels too much like real life
>grind for months just to have a below-average vehicle that gets mogged by some child with mommy's credit card
>beg some power-tripping janitor to allow you to enter some corporation and do free labor for them to prove yourself
etc

Funny thing to say about a game where 30% of the playerbase has that entirely disabled.

I want a Mass Effect (1-3) themed MMO.

Doesn't actually work. There's a common joke in Eve that the best ship in the game is Friendship. There's been thousands of players who swipe for the best ship and realise that no, having a better ship doesn't mean you win, shortly before losing that ship.
If you're too antisocial to find a decent corp then the game isn't going to work for you though. It took me quite a while to find a group that fit me. I joined with a net worth of ~23 billion isk and 600m in my wallet. Yesterday I spent ~160b on plexing 6 accounts for 6 months, and I've killed over 3 trillion isk worth of shit in the 2 years I've been with them.

What can't you afford plenty of by buying 1 PLEX license and selling it on the market?

>beg some power-tripping janitor to allow you to enter some corporation and do free labor for them to prove yourself
You don't usually have to do anything to get free ships or at least get to join roams.

The amount of matchups for PvP are insane. I wish it was easier to understand if the ship you want to fight is a reasonable target.

If Chrono Odyssey bombs, then it's just gonna be another 20 years of WoW, Runescape, and a little of GW3.

New World unironically wasn't as bad as fags made it out to be, and it was really starting to find it's stride now that the absolute retard Scott Lane left, that dude fucked over NW so god damn bad.

B). I wish Amazon would make more games.

RuneScape 3 is a good game.

RS3 feels like shit getting into because you feel soooo far behind everyone after all the egregious mtx that players took advantage of for the last decade or more. I honestly think RS3 would benefits from fresh start worlds, i know I'd go back to it if that happened. And btw before someone says " just play an Ironman ", no, I don't have nearly enough time to play an Ironman account.

Fresh Start worlds would have zero impact on the existing game, so there's literally no reason for them to not do it.

It was better before WoW.
