Did video games improve your musical tastes? I probably wouldn't like jazz as much as I do if FF piano covers made me look further and Lumines made me fall in love with EDM

>>747568279Yes, it's a gateway genre for me. Otherwise I'd have been stuck in that nu-metal/rap supremacy mentality from the early 2000s.
Not really. Growing up I was probably as nerdy about music as I was about games.
>>747568279I think my love of vidya has led me to appreciate some emerging underground music like that intersection of rage and digicore being piloted by guys like Slayr. But video games on their own never motivated me to seek out albums and keep listening to new music and develop my taste and experience in music. Stupidly enough what got me to do that was the Iceman rollout. The memes were really funny, and i wanted to be able to participate in the conversation, so I looked up the albums considered Drake's best and listened to those. Kanye's apology also came out so i started checking out his many albums from curiosity. From both of these I realized I liked rap a lot and started seeking out more artists, and then I also get other genres and now I've listened to hundreds of albums just this year. I have a job where I can work at my desk with headphones so that gives me a lot of time to listen. All that is to say, video games aren't albums and won't get you to look up bespoke music. If you like videogame music you look up the tracks you like from the soundtrack on youtube and then the YouTube playlists keep you in a relatively contained ecosystem of soundtracks, some fan tracks, and some occasional niche adjacent music most often jpop singles.
>>747568279I don't think so. The thing that made me appreciate music the most was when I attempted to make my own.
>>747568648Good shit
>>747568984I don't think that's completely fair. I've been liking indie artists like 2mello and would never have listened to an album of his if not for his contributions to video games. I think music discovery is extremely broad and even movies can change someone's tastes if they're autistic or observant enough
