I work at a company partnered with Xbox. I've seen some big games over the years, recently the biggest being Persona 6, PHYSINT and TES6. I could care less about TES6, but the new Kojima shit genuinely has me on the edge of my seat and I phys-ically cannot contain my boner.

I worked directly with the guys who put the OD trailer out almost a year ago. It was anticipated even then Sony would have to drastically de-risk their portfolio around that time. Long story short, the Xbox division knew PS would be walking things back and used OD as an opportunity to loop Kojima in with some Nvidia/Epic tech they were working on and now both projects have basically put him first in line for new Helix (next gen Xbox) marketing.

I recently saw a demo Nvidia and Epic put together for Kojima for their future Xbox strategy and it looked live action. Some shit called a scene graph and Verse to get a level developed fast, but the bonkers shit was assets getting scaled to what I can only describe as 32k resolution when you get close to them. Skin with real sweat beads and pores, facial movement realistically working based on a recording of someone from a phone, auto animation for running/walking based on what the character is wearing, rain pooling on the ground and then turning into snow when you lower the temperature, etc.

There was a demo of 3D scanning a wetsuit too, reacting with light properly when it's wet/dry/torn with realistic looking loose fabric ends, etc. Then on a mannequin and it fits as it should, change the size of the mannequin and you can choose if you want the wetsuit to scale. Multiple different clothes of different fabrics on mannequins all taking slash damage and all the clothes tear convincingly.

It's a mix of DLSS, new systems in UE6 and scanning tech with a deep learning algorithm which instantly know what the physics should be. Literally a one button export from PC to Xbox Helix. Just imagine this shit with Metal Gear gameplay.

Who has the time to come up with this sort of stuff?

so you do care?

And then everybody clapped, right?

Scene graphs are a standard architectural strategy in a lot of engines for describing a hierarchy of objects, nothing new

Verse is Sweeney’s attempt at making a gaming metaverse language, it’s basically
useless shit for Fortnite
