Hard scifi stories tend to depict space warfare as flinging rocks or drones at each other from light-years away. Space navies are a meme because space is too big to control, but most people don't want hard scifi because our reality is boring as fuck. That's why the current dystopia is just lame and gay.

>>
>>747572667
Starcraft is not hard science fiction. It's military pulp fiction. The absurdity is intentional. The roided up marines dying horribly to terrifying aliens has always been part of the iconic Terran imagery. They even nailed the iconic trope of the marine's gun being useless after about 8 seconds.

It is odd considering than we when left SC2 the Terran's were utilizing advanced bio-weaponry and robots. We're told that Earth is actually quite advanced and surly by now the Koprulu system has a fastlane back to Earth. The Protoss must have fucked back off and returned to isolationism. The Zerg we see I'm guessing are Zagara's or something, but then again I guess they can just have feral zerg it doesn't matter if they're controlled anymore.
All this is to say, who the fuck cares because

Meat is cheaper. Meat will always be cheaper.

I mean there are tons of different scifi games and concepts explored in steam indie games, why are you complaining about Starcraft of all things that always had this sort of established lore of lowtech combined with dystopian.

The whole point of Starcraft is that terrans are virtually no different to the zerg in terms of animalistic brutality in the treatment of their own. They experiment and torture each other with drugs and psionics (ghosts are literally said genetically modified super soldiers) and are no different to the zerg when it comes to destructive power, expanding and consuming all resources across the galaxies like a virus, prompting the protoss to have to cull them every so often, and who see them as little different to the zerg.

Notice how even though terrans always meet gruesome fates they always somehow complete their objectives and gain ground.

Nope. Only applicable to Zerg
>>
>>747575746
TNG is the GOAT and Expanse s1-3 is good.
But the scifi series that inspired Terran the most imo is Babylon 5, especially early on. The CGI and ship designs from Starcraft look like they could belong to the B5 universe, ghosts are pretty much psi corps, and the overall mood and atmosphere feel sort of similar.

>>
>>747576783
Nope, it's the same with terrans too.
Not once in the entire Starcraft series has there been any indication of a terran population shortage or the prospect of a terran-specific extinction (that wasn't a universewide extinction), quite the opposite. Even today, meat is cheaper than drones. You only think otherwise because we still hold on to a veneer of civility and meat is still figuring out the new meta (if not for landmines meat on motorbikes would have defeat drones already). But say tomorrow India wanted to take over Ukraine they could literally just ship their entire male population into the neighbouring countries, then walk straight into Ukraine and take it in a day. The only thing holding meat back is not wanting to be used as meat.

>>
>>747577329
No. This story has been twisted so hard by GW nutgobblers. Blizzard originally thought BRIEFLY of using the Warhammer Fantasy license when making Warcraft 1, but dismissed the idea in favor of an original IP. Starcraft was originally a Warcraft 2 spinoff that was so memed for being Orcs in Space that Blizzard spent years building it into its own thing. It draws from popular sci-fi IPs of the time like Alien, Predator, Firefly, Starship Troopers, etc. just like 40k did.

>>
>>747577209
It originally was meant to be a 40K game iirc, but the inspirations come from all over the place. 40k itself wasn't the first to do it (Starship Troopers 1959) and the protoss-terran-zerg trichotomy is clearly just the same as the elf-human-orc trichotomy of exaggerated human characteristics. Fantasy and scifi have been around FOR A LONG TIME. Like late 1800s early 1900s.

Plus it's the only Earth-like planet they've ever found and humanity wants to move there permanently. Not a good idea to just irradiate it all. And the whole reason why they spent billions to make the Avatars in the first place is because they didn't want to genocide the natives and wanted to peacefully do their thing. They simply can't understand that mining forbidden resources, generating plastic garbage, polluting air, and killing off intelligent whale families is inherently wrong and anathema to the Na'vi. How come countries don't do that?
Instead of sending an army to invade, send a horde of unarmed civilians to storm the border. If the other country shoots to stop them, they're murderous war criminals; if they don't shoot, they're conquered.

The "Bugs" are described as communal beings originating from the planet of Klendathu, and consist of multiple castes; workers, warriors, brains, and queens, similar to those of ants and termites on Earth. The warriors are the only ones who fight, and are unable to surrender in battle.[34] It also is implied that the Bugs are technologically advanced, possessing such technologies as spaceships.[35] The "Skinnies" are depicted as less communal than the Arachnids, yet more so than humans.

weirdly All Tommorows touched upon that at the begining when Martians and Earthlings got at war and they use bassicaly space drones and algorythms
>No fantasy could have been further from the truth. War between planets was a slow, nerve-wracking series of precisely timed decisions that spelled destruction on biblical scales. Most of the time the combatants never saw each other. Most of the time the combatants were not there at all. War became a duel between complicated, autonomous machines programmed to maximize damage to the other side while trying to last a little longer.

The Morocco thing is the best of a bad situation: if there's going to be an immigration rush, better at least one of them consist of US allies doing the immigrating and seizure of state control, instead of all of them being future hostiles. You see the same dilemma in the strait of Malacca where these muslim nations that openly purportedly hate Israel wouldn't think twice to collaborate with Israel through the proxy of America to give the US military control over the Strait of Malacca.

More Jews live in Muslim countries than anywhere else in the world because the muslim faith by creed has a deep intertwining complex relationship with Jews that compel them to shelter and protect them. They openly profess to hate each other but any member of an Abrahamic faith would sooner sell out an infidel than one of their own.

So it's not as clear cut as Muslims hate Jews etc that narrative is for popular mass consumption to distract plebs.

The elites of these countries want access to the first world education system for their kids and the international banking system, so often they betray their own populace for personal gain.

The further into the future science fiction is that all practical warfare is functionally just "magic" and no longer involves boots on the ground, the less appealing it is to people. Where's the grit? Where's the personality? You just want advanced toasters fighting each other? That's so impersonal. So weightless. There has to be stakes. You need people to be invested.

The cost of a drone + hand grenade is less than the cost of recruiting/training/equipping/sustaining a single soldier
Therefore one soldier with n drones + hand grenades pays for himself after killing just two enemy soldiers
And a soldier who kills say 4 enemy soldiers has massively outdone his own cost

Not that simple. There are embedded costs in those drones and grenades that need an army of raw resource extractors, designers, manufacturers, QCers, quartermasters, and logisticians to purvey.
As you go farther and farther into the fringe territories of empire, especially when actually fighting at the front these costs compound and become untenable, hence why the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier group had to retreat to Thailand.

Yep. That can be a big impactful moment, like when the Death Star fired the big beam. But think about that for a moment. Alderaan getting destroyed is mostly meaningless to viewers despite the incredible scale. We don't know anyone on that planet. We don't even see a ground view of the cities or anything before the whole thing is gone. Luke losing his hand hits MUCH harder than all of that. Because that's how the human mind connects with an event. Through the eyes of a single person.

Because anything made for a main stream audience has to be dumbed down in the extreme just to get them to pay attention.
You can't make scifi that explores interesting concepts because as soon as they have to think to understand it, people check out. If there isn't 2.6 explosions per minute people check out. This isn't an American thing, its a normie thing.
Like people didn't even understand the "twist" in Soma. They are so retarded that a concept as simple as clones are just copies, not magical consciousness teleporters, confuses them because the protagonist didn't sit down and explain it to them.

Actually 40k makes total sense since their tech level has collapsed so much from their peak so it makes essentially magic-lite materials and such feasible. And with how society is set up, pragmatic, cold rationalism and genuine science is something of a very rare luxury to be afforded since chaos corruption is a legitimate threat. It's why the break up of forces into less than ideal formations makes total sense since then a formation turning traitor will be intentionally gimped without the support from other formations.
All this combined with purposeful ambiguity and the sheer scale of 40k actually makes it one of the rare genuinely believable sci-if series. Everything else, since they're supposed to be rational first and foremost and with similar conditions as we experience now, tend to fall flat. Which is to be expected since the authors would have to be extremely well researched and smart to truly make something you can actually accept as feasible and grounded.

Not to mention zerg buildings are living tissue. Drone strikes that don't penetrate and kill the living organism at its core presumably deep underground will just see the damage repaired in two weeks. Explosive drones are probably the least coat effective weapon to deploy against zerg.
It'd be like using a grenade to try and kill an ant colony or a fungal colony.

I don't feel like there's anything interesting left to do with Starcraft. The Zerg are fully explored. The Protoss are fully explored. Infested Protoss is basically wasted on SC2's Xel Naga god garbage (which also completely wasted the concept of the Xel Naga).
What is left to do? Introduce a new faction that slots between animalistic hivemind, honorbound ancient warriors, and greedy retarded infighting humans?

If they can't do that much, or fundamentally try something new that completely alters how these 3 races interact, this game shouldn't even get made.

Rendering a planet useless is generally considered a waste unless it's absolutely, extremely necessary like the Flood have infested it or something. The zerg are not that bad. As for drones, the doctrine behind drone warfare is nothing new, it's literally 1:1 the doctrine of the American Army since WW1. Soften the target area with sustained artillery, seize with infantry. Nothing can effectively be considered captured and secured unless a soldier is standing on it.
>>

>>
>>747600970
Exhausting the enemy's resources. If they want to hold that position, but I don't care about it, blowing up the position is a sound decision.

All sides in WW1 and some of WW2 extensively discussed and wargamed the concept of exhausting the enemy's morale and will to fight by inflicting massive casualties. Unfortunately since all sides viewed the war as an existential threat, there was no amount of casualties you could inflict that would make someone bow out. But the idea is technically sound.

I just watched the trailer and I'm confused how they landed the punchline but completely fucked up the setup.

There is no conflict here, humans are respawning like roaches to perpetually be fed into the grinder despite decades of being nearly wiped out by bizarre aliens

blizzard used to use cartoony aesthetics to enhance visual clarity with low resolution/isometric graphics, then they misunderstood their own product and decided everything should be cartoony. The original warcraft/starcraft aesthetic was always edgy comic book, like spawn or liefeld or whatever, which uses plenty of black ink and angular surfaces, but they decided everything should have little contrast and look soft. For some fucking reason.

Because Americans have been pushed out of AAA game dev by islamo-judeo-satanist leftists for nearly 20 years.

What actually takes me out of it is how the marine in the trailer seems like this wide-eyes naieve guy. Starcraft has it in lore that the majority of Terran soldiers are convicts. The Marauder is exceptional in that a whopping 43% of them have never been convicted of a crime.

Geez, it's not like Americans created multi-billion dollar franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek

No that was the UED, the humans that came from earth in brood war. The dominion is the dictatorship created by Mengsk during Starcraft
>>
>>747604251
aren't Dominion marines just normal guys? Or at least, non-criminals.
>>
>>747604572
The Dominion brainwashes convincts using drugs into being Marines.
>>
>>747574938
...no? Terrans are the human inhabitants of the Koprulu Sector descended from those sent there by the scientist Douran Routhe as an experiment when the fascist UPL government was undergoing Project Purity in order to purge humanity of dissident elements and cyborgs/mutants (officially they killed 400 million people), and Routhe grabbed a bunch because hell they were going to be killed anyway, and sent them off in space for a colonization mission they figured was gonna fail anyway.
The Dominion is one of 3 Terran powers in the Koprulu sector, people forget the Umojans and Kel-Morian Combine were never part of the Confederate or later Dominion governments are are their own separate political entities.

>better at least one of them consist of US allies
I take it you don't see Spain as an US ally anymore then.
Was it the moment they told your Israeli masters to eat shit? Should the rest of NATO (of which Morocco is only an MNNA) expect the same treatment?
>>
>>747604631
Dominion banned it between Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void

Officially it was banned but NCO showed there's a lot of shit going on that Valerian and Matt aren't seeing.

>marines just normal guys
marines in SC, no matter the context, are never normal kek. they are meant to die in waves, get stimmed up while doing so, and if they somehow survive, then they've made their penny's worth.
>>
>>747605951
>they are meant to die in waves
nta but it's funny in context because that's true in SC1 where marines suck but in SC2 marines are god-tier units that are the bread and butter of Terran play and absolutely are not meant to just throw away and die.
>>
Honestly, human infantry is so good and cost effective its never leaving warfare.
>>
>drones
Starcraft takes place across many environments, some with environments that aren't good for drones.
>nukes
You can't nuke every battle.
>bio-weapons
Zerg specialize in bio-warfare they'll just mutate to make themselves immune.
>genetic modifications
Marines are supposed to be cost effective and not expensive super soldiers.

Honestly, when has the US actually been friendly with the ruling Spanish power in contemporary history? US chose to support the fucking commie side of the Civil War and all of its famous writers cried at Franco for being a big meanie-head.

Ok so Blizzard only comprehend games in terms of characters and story because it's just foids sockpuppeting franchises they didn't create.
They don't understand that games are a vibe and gameplay.

So when they try to present a duplicate of a game like Helldivers 2 which is just vibe and gameplay they have to do it through a story and character lens.
That's why it comes off as so uninteresting and forced.
