I'll start.
Codename S.T.E.A.M.
A strategy tactical RPG with characters based on United States folklore.
Really the reason for this game bombing is simple, Intelligent Systems tried to appeal to the west with a twist to their signature tactical RPG style of gameplay they are known for.
But the problem is that not only did they try to pander to only one country of the west, with folklore that gamers don't really care about but the core gameplay proved to be more niche than they were expecting.
Basically IS expected gamers of the west to only care about one country's folklore but to also care about strategy/tactical RPGs as well.
And making the style of the game steampunk, while cool, is honestly another niche element thrown on top of everything else lowering the game's appeal and proving that IS has/had no idea what the west wants.
For me personally though, i never played the game for myself but i do really love the concept and steampunk is one of my top 10 aesthetics so j would love if someone else were to revisit the concept, even if half of it.

This game failed because the art style is shit. It looks like a failed Cartoon Network show.

They were trying for Jack Kirby and Mike Mignola but they ended up looking like Rescue Heroes

This game has better voice acting than almost every other Nintendo game

also, it wasn't exclusively American stuff. there was a lot of English and Spanish stuff in there too. Also they made the Tin Man a samurai.

Oh please, it looks fine.
Don't try to write off legitimate reasons with scapegoats, that's not wise.

Not only is this an assumption but what's wrong with Rescue Heroes.
