I miss when games were a thing you did and then it was over- mario64, resident evil 2, soul reaver lok, uncharted: drakes fortune, even longer games like final fantasy vii. Younger gamers will never know what that era felt like, we were on the frontier of imagination and adventure, no distractions, no phones, no woke bullshit, now games feel copy/pasted from the same formula, everything needs a skill tree and RPGlite features to grind, graphics all look like UE5 slop, they want 100+ hours of my life and are made by people who hate gamers and hate men. Only good companies making games now are capcom and fromsoftware, and the later is losing to investors and shareholders.

If anything I'd argue a lot of the exhaustion gamers have with action-adventure games these days is that they're trying too hard to force the player to act out a particular narrative. People got bored with them basically as soon as the novelty wore off and now all these cinematic, story-driven games are slowly becoming interactive TV shows because it turns out nobody likes to be hassled with enemies or puzzles when they're just waiting for the next cutscene to play out.When people play a game that actually encourages them to play their own way, they're a lot more eager to explore and take on challenges because they're playing to fulfill their own goals not just watch the next scene in the story.
