everything after the first two main games just devolved into cookie cutter garbage. after three, there is no need to play any of the others since they play the exact same as three. so i think far cry 2 is probably the strongest game in the series. the aesthetic, themes, story, and even gameplay is pretty unmatched. pretty much the wests metal gear solid.
