>The crypto boom is over, but RTX 5090 gaming GPUs are now feeding AI servers
>When ASUS announced the $3,999.99 ROG Matrix RTX 5090 and MSI followed with the $5,090.99 RTX 5090 LIGHTNING Z, we were scratching our heads over whether board partners had lost their minds. These were limited halo models built around extreme cooling, overclocking and low production volumes. Nine months later, regular RTX 5090 models are reaching and even surpassing the same pricing.
Say thank you to Sam Altman!

Cool, I'm just going to keep playing video games with my 6700XT.
>noooo you NEED to spend money, goyim!!!
Nah.

>only 5090's available are $6000+
there is no way these are worth $4000+ more than a 5080
>>
>meme card
who cares
>>
>>747585574
When I built a PC at the start of this year I specifically got a 5080 because it was going to do everything I needed for games at a fraction of the cost of the 5090. I wouldn't have minded going a bit higher to have the best card, but it's total overkill for that price and it's only gotten more and more ridiculous. It was a $2000 or so gap back then.
>>
You won't get any extra performance out of the lighting Z unless you overclock it past 600W, which would be very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.
>>
when did the top of the line card become baseline to you neckbeards? people laughed at the titan back in the day
>>
>>747585805
>baseline
xx60 tier cards are being sold for $800
>>
>>747585304
When I bought my 5090 I justified it with the fact that I could probably sell it later for the same price, or even a little more. Little did I know lol.
>>
>>747586107
well, did you sell it yet?
>>
>>747588170
I probably should. It can't get any worse, could it?
>>
The situation is so bad, people are buying AMD cards.
>>
>6k for current year 980ti

>>747585574
It has double the VRAM for AI work, that's night and day. The 5080 has the same 16gb as a 5060 TI.
>>
>>747589084
>The 5080 has the same 16gb as a 5060 TI.
well no as it has over double the bandwidth.
They still should've given it 24 or at least 20gigs tho
>>
>>747589084
5080 is pretty good for AI work but its VRAM size is the only thing holding it back. But you could buy two 5080s for cheaper than one 5090 is why the prices don't make sense.

well yeah, people want to know if a new GPU will run the games they are interested in actually playing

all so streamers could have an AI generated derek chauvin next to them in their own house speaking a lil chinese while they stream videogames

The urge to sell and just buy a 5080 and prebuilts for my friends is skyrocketing

thank FUCK i bought the 16gb at msrp and not the whatever absurd price it's at now
>>
>>747585524
he's arguably much more responsible for it than any other AI company is
>>
>>747585304
I bought a 4090 at release and found it to be totally overkill. I could play BM Wukong at 4K/100+ FPS on the absolute max settings and didn't have any more fun than when I replayed it on my PS5 Pro. Then I had a massive eureka moment when I realized: graphics only matter for still screenshots. When you're in the thick of it and your eyes are scanning moving targets at a fast speed while focusing on your inputs and rotating the camera rapidly, with modern engines constantly streaming in assets, you see essentially no difference. The only time games look substantially different in motion is when they have that ugly blocky halo around characters due to AI frame-gen which, funnily enough, is usually packaged with "ultra" presets.

>VRAM for AI work
Is that all it takes? I just got a RTX 9060 with 16GB, surely that won't perform as well as a 5080 for AI work. I don't think it's even feasible, right?
>>
>>747591518
amd and work dont belong in the same senttence
>>
>bought my 5090 Astral for 2800€ in fucking March of this year

Holy shit that was close
>>
>>747585304
No gamer is really buying these cards at those prices. It's the AI datacenters buying up everything regardless of the price.

i think you can get comfyui working on amd cards now but idk how good they are at it

I say thank you to the sheeple consumers, who let executives know that they retarded and will pay any price for their toys.
>>
At least people can buy data centre's used gpus when they upgrade. Perhaps they will give them away freely due to all the AI super abundance and no work or money world we will live in soon.
>>
>>747585805
a titan cost like 600 bucks at most with entry cards costing 120-150
even if they were the most expensive, everyone could have afforded one easily
>>
>>747594023

Anyone outside the top 0.01% is getting liquidated by AI seeker killbot swarms after AGi
>>
>>747593967
Depends on the data security those centers are required to provide. The higher it goes, the more likely those cards will be thrown into an industrial shredder to 'prevent leaks' along with the SSDs and HDDs they already shred.
