Back in my day people had no issue being a random dude. Nowadays you can't even have a proper RPG with a blank slate.
Ironically CoD was the origin of the entire problem.While in 1 and 2 they did want to make you feel 'part of the war', starting in 4 they introduced British special forces as a way to subvert the usual "American is the hero" cliche, but special forces as a whole took over the franchise like a cancer and it spread to everything else.
