Why do so many indie devs wake up each day and think
>today I am going to make slop, there is not enough slop in this world and I need to add to the pile
Totally bewildering behavior
>>
Why do you wake up each day to make shit threads?
>>
>>747597413
no clue, webm related really looks like shit
>>
>>747597413
this is literally just cloudbuilt
>>
>>747597413
Is every single indie game considered slop to you before it's finished?
Do you have an issue with the genre of and indie game, or just all indie games in general?
>>
>>747597413
The issue is most indie devs want to express a certain vision for a set of characters they've created but lack the narrative writing, programming, and originality to do so in any way that isn't utter garbage.
>>
>>747597413
you'll understand if you ever make your own thing.
But yeah, the large majority of indie devs used to have some standards, and dump their trash on itch and put their actually decent game on steam.
Now they just try to sell anything they make
>>
le squish and stretch instead of making animations because youtuber said its game feel and juice
add moar screens shakes for that game feel and juice
every game needs to be the same shit or else i wont promote in my shitty analysis videos

>Is every single indie game considered slop to you
yes
>>
>>747597413
Most people are like that. It's the wageslave mentality. Quality doesn't matter to them.

To be frank I agree, why are 90% of indie developers obsessed with hecking smootherino movement slopperino, look at the video in the original post it has that 'old school poly' awful artstyle and is purely about movement I mean it's almost a parody. Not to be purely obsessed but it does seem to be popular with trannies they seem to eat that shit up.

>Guys. Today I'm going to make a "movement". Guys it's going to be a movement game and by movement it be like sliding and WALL RUNNING. Guys! WALL RUNNING. Like that thing that if you check YouTube for movement tutorial, every fucking single one would include wall running "tech" that you "definitely going to make a unique and never seen game before with". Also, you can add you fetish spin - like faggot furries, trannime or cozy cute nigger dick, or dare I say....make an ULTRAKILL CLONE!!!?

Why do EVERY platforming indie game have wall running? Like, you don't have to put wall running in every game you make, guys. It has to be some free asset you can download.

>>747597413
This doesn't look like slop to me.
>but fast and smooth movement is slop
No, simple and flat movement is slop. "Hold direction to move, hold button to move faster, that's it" is slop.
>>
>zero stakes movement game where you can double jump and change angle of velocity instantly
>>
>>747597413
Nobody thinks that. they make something that's fun for them and fits their skill level.

places where it misaligns with you
>My preference is not that
ignore it
>The market does not like 3d platformers much(objective truth)
business failure on his part if he intends to sell it
This isn't slop because it's hand made and practicing art and creativity is admirable.

I say the same thing about watching content, why watch long form videos when tiktok/reels is unironically better because you are constantly swiping and staying engaged. the previous generations need to die off

>>
>>747599887
I can't tell if you're implying every old game has the simplest movement it can possibly get away with or what.
>>
>>747599786
there is nothing more creative than a low poly psx style indie game focused on movement, im sure he came up to this idea all on his own
>>
>>747598079
the extra mobility is cool, restricted movement like gaylo sucks
>>

You're not allowed to use any ideas that already exist, it has to be a entirely new original game and idea that hasn't been done yet.
>>
>>747600302
Yes.
>>
>>747600302
i thought experimentation was the point of indies
>>
>>747600302
I mean yeah. That's what like 80% of the demographic that uses "slop" thinks. The only stuff that isn't "slop" is what they liked before they learned the term.
>>
>>747600302
you would be right if it wasn't for the fact that every single indie platformer ever made is low poly movement slop that looks and plays identical to the video in the op. even in duskfall they have that retarded air dash nonsense I was just playing it today
>>
>>747600131
It may not be creative, creativity comes after practice and achieving a certain skill level
I don't think he'll be making 3d platformers 30 years from now since nobody likes stomping in place.

Whether you can barely draw a stickman or you're Picasso, practicing creative hobbies is admirable.
>>
it's telling how they haven't moved on from psx imitation shaders for this long
>>
>>747598079
Because we aren't 6 year olds or dudebros playing their first game so just pushing the stick to move from A to B isn't really that fun.
>>
>>747600394
Doing anything published AA/AAA developers wouldn't is the point of indies. That includes both trying new experimental ideas and iterating on ideas the bigger groups have largely moved away from, like movement heavy 3D platformers.
>>
>>747598079
This happens because most of these retards who make these games are hopelessly obsessed with doomscrolling Twitter. They lack proper inspiration that doesn't come from fucking Twitter.
>>
>>747600505
>But... but Castlevania... Mega Man... if there's anything more to do than move out of the way of the zone that will damage me by holding the correct direction, then it's SLOP!!!!

The REAL answer is that this indie slop always starts with a vague idea or premise, only when you start developing that idea is that you realize you can't just make an entire game from just a concept, so everything around said concept gets little to no thought put into it, they just go for the most used tropes that everyone else goes for because it's the path of least resistance
>>
>>747600838
>developers use social media
:O
>>
>>747600910
he doesn't even have any frames in his glasses he just wears them to look smart
>>
>>747600394
No, the point of indies was doing things without any of the bullshit AAA is associated with like suits and "investors" and chasing big market trends and instead just doing whatever seems cool and trying to do it well without any corporate control or censorship. Yes experimentation was also part of it, but again that is part of indies just being able to do whatever instead of trying to make the next live service fortnite hit sensation.
>>
>>747600660
>haha those doomscrolling lifeless tweeters amirite
he says as he doomscrolls /v/, and enters doomthread to doompost
>>
I'm tired of every indie platformer trying to have le epic movement tech like Mario Odyssey where you can skip every level. What happened to good level design and good fun movement like Mario 64?
>>
>>747600943
99 out of 100 of the best games of all time were made by devs who didn't use social media, fact
>>
>>747601084
Most of the indies are trying to have movement more like Mario 64 than odyssey. Odyssey controls your airborne momentum pretty aggressively compared to 64, and air momentum is one of the big things this style of indie platformer likes to preserve.
>>
>>747601097
Devs through history always used some sort of means for social contact, be it meetups in nerd circles, message boards, chats, forums etc.
>>
>>747597413
Why is there a sword on his back if he's not gonna use it?
>>

>>
>>747601367
Who are you to say that he wont?
>>
>>747600785
Yeah, most of you retards are twittertroons. What's your point?
>>747600943
nta
That's why all of these indie games look the same or play the same. Indie devs nowadays have a small pool of inspiration due to them being terminally online or due to lack of game knowledge from not playing enough games.
>>
>>747601440
Note how many dev circles ended up being "here's my take on the same game" such as what happened with original Rogue, and that is something you complain about now on /v/ and blame on "algorithm-led doomscrolling".
>>747601551
You don't play indie games.
>>
>>747601551
Indie games play the same? Did you not see the dragon dick washing game? Indie games are much more varied than the big names on the market.
>>
>>747600910
The sad truth indies haven't accepted is that just because you can make a video game doesn't mean you're suddenly a game designer
>>
>>747600302

Anyways the true answer to "durrrr why indie devs make platformer" is a very simple one:
Because platformers are a perfect genre for people who are inexperienced in game dev and want to get some experience. They don't need depth or complexity or many variables, you just need to make decent levels and controls that don't suck. There's a reason why in the early days like 90% of vidya were platformers, game dev tutorials start by showing you how to make a 2d platformer and why for many big names of gaming history their first project was a platformer.
It's that simple.
>>
Why are you guys so negative towards people who do what they love?
>>
>>747602050
You are like the 10th person with the "ok listen up guys here is how this all works" and now you're waiting for people to affirm your brainfarts but haaa it was just me telling you that you are gay AND stupid
>>
>>747600302
>>fps
>codslop
point me to the indie game that plays like CoD during the 360/ps3 era
>>
>>747602050
Wouldn't platformers be harder to make because they have to create a shit ton of 3D assets to make the levels feel different from one another? Shit, I think making an open world would be easier because you have the world be one biome.
>>
>>747602167

>make a Star Fox clone
>could have made it simple and easy to play, like 64 or Assault
>instead, the dev make it kaizo hard, punish the player for just playing the game, and expecting the players to minmax/super pro just to finish one level
>wHy DoEs No OnE SuPpOrt iNdiEs?111!1?
And I see the same shit with vitrually every other indie games. Most players want to play and have fun, not fucking get brutalize by making the game unfairly difficult.
>>
>waaah nobody makes a game for me
>okay what do you want
>no response
>or some super large project impossible for a solo dev that is extremely vague with gameplay details (basically a game where you can do anything!)
People often say the idea doesn't matter, it's about execution. Well where the fuck are the good ideas then if they are so easy?
>>
>>747604612
the difficulty is the fun for them because they mastered it

>I want less gameplay
So /v/ is now kotaku journalists, great
>>
>>747605312
I was in game dev course where there was literal asperger who had this great idea to make a vague game like that and it largely ruined the whole thing for me because we got nothing done. And I was one of the few people who even volunteered for programming and there was no fucking way I could fulfill their requests with my programming skillz.

I did make some slop fps platforming games with double jumping, projectiles, dashing, sliding, keys and all the stuff /v/ calls slop though. But I never progressed anywhere meaningful from that and now when I play platformer fps I just think like damn that could been me if I wasn't someone who just gives up.
