Because Rare made better games. Diddy Kong Racing beat the BRAKES off Mario Kart 64.

They're mostly just talking about Miyamoto. He was bent his version of SNES Donkey Kong got passed over for Rare's, got angrier when Yoshi's Island didn't overtake DKC, and never really got over it.
