What, in your experience, is something that makes you want to come back to an RTS?
>>
I don't remember what got me so into SupCom. I just started watching tutorial videos and fell in love with micro, including hoverbombing, faction strengths and matchups, and playing all the slots of various maps, especially Dual Gap (land, sea, air, and eco).

Miss me with that Seton's shit.

Guys I have it figured out
>e-sports focus
>1v1 hyper balance
>2/3 of budget into like 2 cutscenes
>simplified macro
>2 (to) resources, no power management
>MAYBE 1 static defense option per faction
>1v1, 2v2 MAYBE 3v3 perfectly symmetrical maps (7 total) with no exploitable terrain features other than plateaus and ramps
>from the developers who saw StarCraft II™
>3 races - blue good guys, morally grey red guys, gold/silver 3rd MYSTERIOUS faction
>camm-pagn 7 missions max

2 resources is supreme.

Criticize 1 thing about SupCom.
>>
>>747603697
Isn't designing for 1v1 and real humans the best way to design a game?
>>
>>747602647
Seton's has good games even if the land bridge falls to either pond winning their side.
>>
>>747607727
Notice how he portrays such things as bad. he's a paid shill to shit on RTS design. Blizz is in full damage control right now.

when the soldiers you recruit have or can gain specific abilities that solve certain problems and are unique to their class/character.

Why is "too many units" considered a problem in RTS? An RTS should make you feel like you're commanding a war, not babysitting twelve units while your economy waits for you to click things.
>>
>>747610980
you interested in ashes of the benchmark 2? I think it looks more promising than the first one

Does it have air and sea?
>>
>>747611372
apparently they're adding naval units post-launch, it has air units
>>
>>747611435
It's probably pretty good. I hope it has good weaponry to attack and defend FOBs. SupCom has point defense, T2 artillery, missiles, T3 and T4 artillery, and T3 and T4 nukes.
>>
>>747610980
engine limitations, higher specs needed, stability in online matches with more than 4 people
>>
>>747610980
Too much to control everything manually sucks even if you have a control group limit of a million and can do it in a single drag click. RTS could benefit a lot from LLMs and give us much better CPU AI or even fully automated frontlines and workforce, but nooooo, let's just make a C&C knock-off for the 3rd time or learn the bad lessons from StarCraft.

>>747613001
>Too much to control everything
In SupCom, dodge micro with 100 units is just as effective as 10.

Boy I sure do love it when an RTS has a two resource system, with rock-paper-scissors style unit balance, at MOST 4 campaign missions to get you ready for multiplayer, and a fun rapid pace 5 minute match 1v1 multiplayer system!
I wish we had more games like that for Esports, I can't wait to join platinum league by spamming tier 1 units in a four tier system!

>Unit is 'armored' type
Oh that's cool, so it means it's extra durable, resists stuff better?
>Oh lol no actually basically everything has a bonus to armored units, so armored units are actually weaker
Yeah that makes total sense.

Age of Mythology.
I even liked Retold.

being able to play with different army comps and make use of cool spellcasting and interactions
the more an RTS enables players like moon, lin or even parting i think the more interesting it is and therefore more interesting to come back to and see how things have developed
>>
>>747612471
My N'wah Cossacks are the thing and you can have an army of thousands if your economy allows you to pay for them, otherwise they go feral(I once lost 12 Galleons that way)

base building and controlling/extracting resources.
>>
>>747600779
I like games in style of Company of Heroes (Downies of War are gay though). Wish somebody made CoH-like but in alt history setting, so they wouldn't be limited by "historical" accuracy and could just make cool shit up. Iron Harvest doesn't count, tanks > mechs.
>>
>>747627156
I have literally never seen someone else talk about Seven Kingdoms. You are my nigga.

The sequel was even better
>>
>>747627739
Drugs man, Seven Kingdom was my fucking drug when was young... simple game, with some nice Civ bonuses, and yet no one in 2026+1 has come closer to do the same.
>>
>>747600779
optional speed mode, unsure on the tiers
but faster gathering, faster building and so on will help
even something like starting with a pile of resources already to get building right away and/or basic buildings are already there/start being built
RTS games are fun but the start up time can be a little much sometimes
>>
>>747607727
Kind of a pointless effort when compfags already have one or several games they spent tens of thousands of hours on and aren't getting tired of them. They're never going to switch unless you make the ultimate RTS that makes all other games look like a joke. Every recent attempt at catering to compfags failed.

i already play age of empires 2 and age of mythology every week, what do you mean "come back"?
>>
>>747610980
Its only a problem if those units each have different abilities you need to micro. Stormgate is the perfect example of how to NOT make an RTS
>>
>>747607727
Compfags aren't going to switch off their RTS for a new one. You need to cater to casuals with campaigns, coop vs AI and big team games
