I tried to finish GTA5 over 9000 times and I still have no idea wtf the story was about.

In four I actually felt compelled to hang out with the weirdos and freaks I was meeting being a Serbian war criminal trying to make ends meet. You take the grime of four and reddit it up a little and you get Trevor, probably the reason he holds up best.

My hot take is that I think it's one of their best written stories and has some of the best interactions between characters. I think it has some of the most emotionally resonant scenes that Rockstar has written. I really like the scene where Trevor is looking out over the city of Los Santos, on the hill, saying "So Michael...this is where dead men come back to life."

Currently started playing again (using DLSS AND NVE the game looks amazing) and so far the story is fine. It's over the top but it's a videogame so that's fine. I don't remember much, except Trevor was absolutely trash. Franklin and Michael are good enough for what they are. Franklin's stuff is fun because of how they black speak is written. It's pretty entertaining actually.

It was written like an episodic TV series. GTAV has really good dialogue, but the overall story is hard to care about because the characters are deranged. GTA has always had this problem.

Dave Norton is one of the worst characters in GTA history, he's the resident macguffin and deus ex machina of the game, and he's about as interesting as watching paint dry. Devon Weston and Steve Haines are not much better. Molly and her perfect ass get sidelined for those fucks. It peaks when Mark Zuckerfucker gets his head blown off and Michael gets dosed and goes skydiving. It's also annoying because you do like 3 actual heists and by the time you level up your crew and understand all the systems, the game is over.
